College radio station had this album back on the day and I discovered this track and obsessively played it on my allotted airtime from 3am-5am Monday mornings as the first song each shift plus randomly would crossfade back into it throughout the show because I dug it so much. Glad to find it on the TH-cam's all these years later.
Bought OLD ROTTENHAT years ago as well as many other albums by this magnificent human being , and every so often I have to listen to this little work of art to give me a lift...GHARBZADEGI is just so sublime and meticulously crafted... Fabulous.

Gharbzadegi is still a valid and true concept. Western strategic hegemony is intimately tied to making other countries capitalistic and then trading with them. Countries, like Thailand, come to imitate the Western models and Western criteria in education, the arts, and culture; through the transformation of such countries into post-industrial capitalisms, they turn into a passive market for Western goods and a pawn in Western geopolitics, hence why sex tourism is viewed positively by Houellebecq. It strengthens the dollar and the West at the expense of the dignity of other countries. Persian intellectuals, even before the 1979 revolution when they were Westernized by the CIA-controlled dictator Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, called it “Westoxification” (Gharbzadegi). It will eventually come to an end though. What bothered me about Houellebecq's Platform was how it approved sex tourism in Thailand because it defends the actions on account the prostitutes are paid. Therefore, in Houellebecq’s views, it’s okay for a tourist agency to promote sex tourism because it spreads commerce. I predicted an ******* like Houellebecq would emerge who uses doublespeak as a way to implicitly defend his desire for Western hegemony, based off how it supports his carnal desires.
well,as an Iranian who was threatened by the intelligence service of Islamic Republic,I hereby say that you guys better close your mouths because you know nothing about our history sweet babes. the writer of the book "Gharbzadegi" is a symbol of idiocracy and treason in my country. okay,I invite you to come and live in my country.let's see if you can tolerate the fruits of "gharbzadegi" and live for a month in Iran!!!come on guys and wash your mouth when you talk about our Shah that gave voting rights to our women 11 years before switzerland. shut up and let me enjoy "the music"
@thelongevitychannel4921 The title of the song “gharbzadegi” is a Persian word for a cultural phenomenon that described what was happening to Iranian society in the 20th century in that traditional social norms were being cast off so that Western (Enlightenment Age) ideals and norms could be adopted. The “out of touch” could be a reference to this? I don’t know much about the artist but it could be that he spent some time in Iran or had an Iranian girlfriend or something and was inspired to make this song? 🤷♂️
I get a warm feeling in my tummy whenever I listen to Robert Wyatt's music or hear him speaking.
I'm going nuts, to take it, know enough
ooh walking now!
are you feel good?

+Mu Phoenix and the idea of expressing that in a mass cultural manner like this is sublime.
Michel Houellebecq is a neurotic who sleeps his sensations on paper, as a form of exorcism!
