Fantastic video, I plan to follow your example. Just curious, do you feel the bog filter and stream cause more water loss through evaporation? I'm thinking about keeping the total exposed water surface relatively low, which would mean a deeper bog and perhaps a closed pipe leading to the pond waterfall. Already I need to top off my pond about once/week, so I'm concerned that adding a bog filter will increase the evaporation.
@@icodeandmakevideos567 yeah I’m sure they do especially in the hot summer months. For me, I think the beauty It adds is worth topping the pond off a little more often, but I could see why someone would want to limit evaporation the best they could.
Hey, love your video. I had a few questions what size liner are you using for the wetland filter? and what is the dimension of the wetland and the pond? thanks, your pond looks a lot like mine, But I used 8, 55-gallon drums as my sand and gravel filter. with two of them as moving bed filter. yes, I know, that's old school. but I had no problems with clean water in my 25year old pond. however, I am going to add a wetland filter and intake bay, most likely two. Also why not go with two intake bays. I only ask because I have two skimmers
@@kle-7248 thanks! I believe I used a 25’x20’ liner and both wetlands are approx 8’x10’x2’ deep. I also have a bio falls that adds a little bit of filtration. About 6 months in and the water quality has been perfect.
@@TheStump29 Ok thanks, your videos have been very helpful. I was going to use milk crates but was able to get 8 plastic pallets on Facebook marketplace 7-dollar ea. I was planning on getting a 25x20 liner I am doing one wetland for now that will be 3 pallets long and two pallets high for now, because of space I have to do long W-L ,I am going 4fr deep and replacing one of the skimmers with intake bays because of all the large cottonwood tree that me and my neighbors have for now . those liner aren't cheep lol Thanks a lot.
I just cleaned mine out. 4m in diameter aboit 1.3m deep, 8 workers 6 days to remove. It was a big mess. Not going down that path again. Sediment build up in the centipede pipe is not the problem. Its when sediment builds up in the various media level. Its near impossible to clean. Its a matter of time. Mine was close to 5 years old. I am going to do a seperate mechanical filtration before running water through the bog. The bog is purely only for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate conversion and home for good bacteria. Your still early days. U might want to reconsider your entire set up.
@@sweeyong7756 there are hundreds of examples of people using this set up successfully. I’m sorry It didn’t work out for you, but I’m gunna roll with It and see how It goes.
The project looks amazing. I get confused at your community-looking neighborhood though, in that major construction changes like that are probably required to have some interesting design plans. 10/10
This video is the best I've seen that clearly explains the nuances of a bog filter installation.
@@Uracantaino glad you thought so!
Does the pipe and the barrel goes under the liner, or you were demostrating?
@LoyisoMzoboshe no, everything is on top of the liner
Awesome progress, cant wait to see it finished.
Chris you are amazing. And talented too!
Thank you!
Great work!! Can’t wait to see the update!!
Very nice work 👏
