I'm so patriotic that every time I see the beer fridge commercials - particularly the Europe one - it makes me want to cry.. I wish they'd bring them back. Mert: like the gentleman in the end, did it make you homesick for Canada even though you've never been? (Of all the reaction to Canada channels you're the only one who's never once made a stereotypical comment.. You're welcome to visit for a beer anytime.)

    • @serenapenner3581
      @serenapenner3581 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I think Molson did those bottles up, especially for these promotions. Because they put the fridges in so many different locations, so many varied environments, all with different rules/ laws, they needed unbreakable bottles to avoid litter, especially in the rural areas. Plus, with bottles, not many people carry bottle openers. Yes, they could have used cans, but these were even better because of being reusable they were also a souvenir ❣️🤩

Great video that exhibits creative genius and excellent production talents. I grew up as close to Canada as possible without being Canadian. The International Peace Gardens were my frequent playground during childhood in the 1950s in North Dakota. Since passports were not required at that time it was easy for US and Canadian children to play together. Now in my 80s, I still fondly remember those times.

While the US is referred to as a melting pot, I've always thought of Canada as a stew. Where people from another culture can come, retain their identity, but bring part of that culture and add to the mosaic that is Canada.

I was part of the team that worked on the Passport, Anthem and Slapshot fridge. All the tech was real (I'd code it much differently today), and those reactions in the Anthem ad weren't scripted. It was definitely fun creating the fridges, and it makes me happy watching your reactions to this video.

I love most of the Molson beer commercial ads. These beer commercial/promotion fridges are BY FAR the BEST though. In fact, esp. the one shot around Europe actually makes me cry (LITERALLY cry, EVERY time I see it, with patriotism.) It is not only a great idea, as you said, sharing our culture with other people - (& being a necessary part in this case, to other people's happiness - a free beer), it is the WAY it was shot. The person saying it makes them miss home & the other person saying that it is making them homesick for Canada & they haven't even been there, as well as complete strangers hugging & being brought together to talk to each other & the end shot of the Canadian, flag on his backpack & soft, loving look on his face as he looks at a piece of "home" - the Molson Canadian beer. LOVE IT!
My next favourites are (all but 1) - are also from Molson's - "Joe Canada" - next best Molson's ad
    - "rules" - Molson Canadian ads
ALSO - from the late 1970s/early 80s - the animated Cherry Blossom commercial - (for the Canadian chocolate treat - a little harder to get now, called Cherry Blossom.) It was EXCELLENT & I still remember the tune that went with all the colour & animation - & I bet others will remember it too if they are reminded of that commercial.

Agreed, and holy, they have a GIANT flag at the Toronto plant. There is no doubt of the patriotic streak. I went to high school less than 1km from the plant and the school always smelled of hops and barley. When they had to replace their tanks, it was a local news event. They (now) have six absolutely huge ASTs and you’d swear it was Santa’s sleigh as were tracked on their way to the plant.

I think people got beeped during the singing of the anthem only because they were taking too long to come up with the words, not because they got them wrong, Mert.
The gap in singing came when the mother wanted her daughter to join in (& got beeped for the wait) & when one guy took too long although it wasn't wrong & at the point in the song where there are different variations, so some people might not have been sure what they were supposed to sing - the French version part, the old/new English wording on the section?

Mert. to be clear. NONE OF US CARE ABOUT "High Production Values". We all know there is a truism here and we loved it. Period. Full. Flat. Stop. it could have been totally extemporanous, and we would still have done this together to open the fridge for free beer. Contrast that with Americans who would surely have broken it.

I wish they would do all 3 of these beer fridge promotions again. We could use this dose of togetherness & positivity - in Canada & elsewhere. It won't happen now though as the company has been bought out (of course) at least 1/2 to full by Americans. Although it WOULD boost Molson beer sales I don't know that they would care to boost Canadian patriotism. It may just go a little too far against American patriotism to to that. Maybe I am wrong.

Too bad that Molson is now headquartered in Chicago since the merger with Coors.
I prefer Unibroue beers, but just like Molson and Sleeman, it's no longer Canadian owned. 😢

Nobody noticed that nobody sang one word in French when they sang Oh! Canada that anthem is bilingual which is why its creator is Calixa Lavallée. This is why when Anglophones ask me what does Quebec want? They want something like this not to happen where a bilingual anthem is being sang in English instead of how it was meant to be sang. Do you know how I feel when I see something like this I feel like a second class citizen in my own country because the culture and the heritage that we brought to this country is not being respected. How do you think Americans would like it if we started singing Star Spangled Banner in Spanish instead of English because we are in the state of New Mexico I am telling you I don’t think there would be too many happy campers.

It's not owned by Coors. They merged inyo Molson Coors. They share a headquarters to save 100s of thousands of dollars, but still have their own main offices in their own countries. It gives each other the right to make each others beer. So when you buy Coors in Canada, it is made in Canada, and vice versa with Molson in the States. So they are both an American and a Canadian company. It cuts out the need to pay import fees, and they can sell both beers at local costs on both sides of the border.
So, if you're drinking Molson in Canada, you are definitely drinking a Canadian beer.

@@michelleblanc6377 I think you need to relax a little. I am not saying this to be mean, just as something I really think that you need to do. In English Canada we learn "Oh Canada" in English & the bilingual version & the French version (in French class.) For some of us we learned the old English word version as well as the changed English worded version later on. As long as it is "Oh Canada", in ANY version I would be fine. Just as long as it is OUR song. You could sing it ALL in French - not the bilingual version. EVERY single person in the video could sing it all in French (which I would find unusual), BUT - I WOULD NOT MIND 1 SINGLE BIT - as long as it was the song of our country! THIS is what you need to be paying attention to & absorb - THE SPIRIT of the commercials. THE INTENT of the commercials. Your schooling & government in Quebec tries to make EVERYTHING about language & declares the English language to be the enemy of everything - which is NOT the case. (It is ONLY the enemy of their separatist agenda. That is ALL.) You need to ABSORB the MESSAGE of these ads - we are ALL Canadian - TOGETHER - despite any other differences between us!
      Have a good day. ❤

Nah we are not all Canadians Quebecers are 2nd class citizens that lives in your country until you have finished assimilating them. O Canada was commissioned by the lieutenant governor of Quebec Theodore Robitaille “we” have created your national anthem in 1880 in French by Calixa Lavallée (music) and Adolphe-Basile Routhier (lyrics) which was later loosely translated to English in 1908 by George Stanley Weir. You simply cannot understand that if we were a truly bilingual country that the anthem should be sang in its bilingual version all the time. But somehow we ended up with three versions that can be used however we feel like. Wow! But yet you want me to feel included when we were part of the founding fathers of this country and yet when it comes to singing 20 words of French in our national anthem that was created by “us” may I remind you we simply just can’t do it. I will simply ask you this if you come to Montreal or Quebec City on a tourism trip in which language can you expect to be served? Ok now let’s flip it over if I go to St-John, Fredericton, Charlottetown, Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver in which language can i expect to be served? This is the difference of living in a so called bilingual country in which a language is totally dominant over the other. So when you ask me why am i flustered of not seing our 20 words of French of “our” national anthem being sang in an English commercial in a so called bilingual country of an anthem that was originally created totally in French. This for me represents the whole hypocrisy of calling yourself a bilingual country when in the end you are bilingual when it suits “you” but not to unite us. I did absorb the message loud and clear a long time ago we will call ourselves bilingual like we did in the old days in Manitoba just until there is so few left of “us” to switch the bilingual school system to unilingual English only just like they did in Manitoba but until then you will just try to lull “us” into a false sense of security until it is over. Sad but true. So you might paint us in all the despicable colours that you want but there is one reality and one reality only one nation fighting for the recognition and survival of its language and culture. You can’t understand that because you never had to live this daily battle a single day in your life. You want to know why their is a separatist agenda in Quebec because we have finally understood that the mirage of a bilingual country with 2 nations is only that a mirage and that if we want our language and culture to survive and thrive unfortunately it won’t be possible inside Canada. We were the only province ignored during the repatriation of the constitution in 1982. We have been denied basic nation rights in 1987 under the Meech lake accord. In 1992 we lowered the bar under the Charlottetown accord and even that was not good enough. In 1995 we gave you a good scare by almost voting for the separation. Even that was not enough to get the Anglo side to make a move. So in the end are you interested to make any kind of move to help our language and culture flourish within “your” country i think the answer is a resounding “NO”. So why should I be interested to remain in a country that 1. Clearly does not respect me my language and my culture when I am one of the founding fathers of said country 2. Is doing everything they can to assimilate us in the future. What is supposed to entice me to stay? Tell me what? Until the people living in Quebec in French do have a sense that their culture and language is wanted, protected and promoted you will always have a separatist agenda in Quebec. Honestly i don’t see that possible within Canada because historically whenever you try to do that it’s always has been seen as somekind of favouritism towards Quebec instead of seeing it as a necessity to the survival of the culture and language. Can i give you one example of the biggest double standard that we have in Canada. Whenever Quebec does something that restricts rights of the Anglo minority everybody is up in in arm in English Canada to protect the rights of that minority we get called r@cist and f@cist and whatever garbage you can throw at our doors. Why when the same thing and sometimes even worse is done to the Francophone minority of Ontario we are not witnessing the same outrage and name calling? I will tell you why we don’t care about the future of French and it’s culture in this country. Goes back to my original thesis we are a bilingual country in words only not in action and principles. Look a major national brand feels warranted to use an original French Canadian anthem solely in English said anthem is the country anthem of a country that is supposed to be bilingual and does that without even an ounce of remorse. I just simply can’t stomach the hypocrisy surrounding it. You want to know why they didn’t sing those 20 words of French because if they did sing those 20 words in the commercial there would be an uproar in the English community because it would infringe on their Anglo privilege. This is “the” difference between living in a true bilingual country and living in the mirage of one. Singing those 20 words should be seen as normal and not something that the French community is forcing “you” to do “you” would do it because “we” would truly value being bilingual as a country. Food for thought.
