I've been using this plugin for a couple of weeks and although I'm getting some good results I feel after watching your video I can get even better results. Thank you.

Hi David. Thanks for yet another great video. I follow your channel regularly now, finding older gems, like this one, amongst your new videos. I have learned a lot from them and, while you advise to find a few plugins that work and use them, I can't help experimenting. I find it lots of fun and also a great learning tool. One of my favourite experiments is to try and make different compressors sound like each other. I have an unfortunate habit of buying lots of different ones, as they all sound completely different at first glance, before you start to tinker under the hood. Compressors like the TLA 100a, which have few controls, you can get a good result quickly. But, of course, just because it's easy, I don't think it means that we should just get them all, making all the companies a bit richer and learning nothing in the process. It's real easy to get an la-2a, throw it on a vocal and dial in 5db. Because of how that particular compressor works, it will simply do it's thing, but the user may have absolutely no idea why it's needed, and what difference it makes. David said that it would work, and of course, it does! So I took this bad boy and got a few settings on the go to see how I can recreate them. And here are my results:
I found that the warm tone that it has simply by sticking it on a track was recreated by putting a 6db filter at about 10K.
I was able to recreate the sound of the two different settings i tried with both the Elysia Mpressor and SKNote Distro (thanks for showing us that one BTW, it was a steal!).
Its saturation is a bit harder to emulate, and I found myself going through my entire arsenal of saturators to try and recreate it. I nearly gave up, until I decided to try the Elysia Alpha. While it's compression is very different, the clip function sounds pretty similar.
So, am I saying all this stuff to dismiss your video? Absolutely not!
The TLA 100A is a great find, although due to it's high cost, I don't think I will be splurging out for this one. While the others that I tried didn't sound identical, they were so close to my ears, that I am happy to use them, but better still, with this video you pushed me to learn how to programme them to be able to achieve such a close emulation.
I am waiting for Plugin Alliance to get their 1176 on sale, I found it made some delightful sounds matching, and going beyond what I found the Waves one did. I have definitely found a few I could not replicate. Eventide Oppressor is one. Love it!
Thanks for all your information, ideas, reviews and inspiration.

just bought it and I'm loving it! I am using it to get movement into my drumbus primarily. When it first came out I thought it was just another LA-2A thing but noooooooo I was sooo wrong. When I'm working on my drums I'm always working into this compressor so I can set the amount of movement by only one knob. For catching transient spikes I go for a softclipper/ surgical compressor like pro-c afterwards. And yes it does modern genres very well! *edit: the

Hey great videos! So glad you reviewed the Summit. I love this the compressor and the EQ and it's quite weird that it really isn't as talked about or as popular as it should be. Good to know you're reviewing the EQF-100 next. Waiting for that one. Softube really outdid themselves with this plugin.

Hi David thanks for the video. I like the sound of this plugin, a real must have. Just few questions: bit depth and sample rate of your session? While we all know these settings affect the overall sound of the song, do they also affect the behaviour of plugins? For example if I'm workin on a CD project 44.1khz 16 bit, still I have to use my ADC highest sample rate and bit depth or not necessarily?THANKS!

Wish you would let the bypass stay on longer for us to hear the default before switching back to engaged. Hard to get a comparison when you switch that fast (sometimes you'd bypass in between vocal lines so we never got to hear the A/B with the vocal). Otherwise, helpful. Thank you.

Very good job on this.As a freelance Mastering Engineer I'm loving your videos and how you approach audio engineering and myths. This plugin became a must for me on bass and vocals but I love how Wide and Airy it makes the drums, reduce the kick boominess in a Natural way.Kind of vintage sounding on Electric Guitars but very pleasent to hear.
Good job again, you got a new subscriber.

Great tutorial! BTW, it sounds to me like you recorded the band live, because I could hear a bit of lead vocal bleed when you soloed on the drum bus, and likewise, some of the rhythm section when you soloed the lead vocal track!!!

I have used a lot of analog gear so I know how it reacts most of the time, it is kind of random actually. This one is just not my cup of tea however. Thought Id let people know. Not saying this is a bad product at all.
