Up until this point, this is where itachi's image has changed. His reputation for being the worst brother in the beginning has changed to be the best brother at the end. When Tobi started talking about the real Itachi i also reacted like yea good luck changing my mind about that bastard only to have my view of him during all those years crushed. It was amazing and i don't think i will ever experience something like that again.

Making us dislike a character for hundreds of episodes only to end up loving the character at the end. This was a masterful writing from Kishimoto, beautiful twist of turns for a character.

Yes, Itachi killed his girlfriend. He put her under a genjutsu (similar to kakashi). But in genjutsu, he showed her them growing old and having their whole lives together and the family they would have had so that she could experience it. And when it ended, she thanked him and then died from its effects.

@@Leite_01 I don't know if this count as a plot hole, but some of the character's age and appearance don't match with the given info beforehand. Kakashi is supposed to be 5 when he was genin 6 at the age of chunin, but in flashbacks he seems to be almost the same age as with other genins of his time (obito, rin, guy etc.) Same with Itachi whos supposed to be 12-13 in the flashbacks but looks a lot older.

That's NOT what Itachi did. If you listened to the speech, the elimination of the Uchiha was INEVITABLE. That means with or without Itachi. Itachi took on that role only to save his brother from being massacred with everyone else.

The Uchiha coup was destined to fail, but the damage from the attempted coup would have weakened the village and left them vulnerable for other villages to attack, which potentially could have led to another war. Yes, saving Sasuke was his intention, but it wasn't his only intention. I honestly don't understand how it's possible for you to have missed all that in these episodes. It's blatantly stated that he sacrificed everything for the sake of the ninja world, his village, and his little brother.

Fun fact: it doesn’t state this in the show but itachi had objectives to complete before he intended to die by sasukes hand meaning that he needed orichimaru curse uplifted from sasuke so that he can be free from his influence (curse mark,) inform sasuke about madara’s existence, inform him about the enternal mangekyo sharingan (which is why he pretended to steal sasukes eyes!!,) wanted to plant his tarimasu trap on sasuke so that madara wouldn’t come after sasuke which is why madara caught on fire after the fight, give sasuke the reputation as hero to killing the killer who killed his clan, and lastly to say goodbye to his little brother once more!!! While on top of that dealing with stage 4 cancer which explains the coughing up blood, getting hit by attacks that was supposedly easy for itachi to dodge with. The blindness comes from overusing the mangekyo sharingan. Notice how itachi never turned off his sharingan in first place. Until we meet again fam!!!

After gently laying the now motionless Izumi down on the floor, Itachi staggered to his feet. The intense expenditure of chakra made his body shake.

By killing her himself, he wiped away the last of his hesitation-the hesitation borne of unfinished business with the clan, of bonds of emotion.
“Thank you, Izumi.” Itachi slowly turned around. There lay her mother, knocked unconscious by the sharingan.

Madara's concern annoyed Itachi.
SUMMARY:
“Itachi approached Izumi and placed her in an extremely powerful Tsukuyomi where she lived the entirety of her life in 0.000000001 billionths of a second. In her dream, she became a chūnin, retired from shinobi life to become Itachi's wife and raise their children, and lived to become eighty years old before dying of old age alongside Itachi. Because her mind was departed from reality in such a manner, Izumi collapsed into Itachi’s arms dying. Izumi thanked Itachi for giving her the life she wanted with him, even if it was a dream, and Itachi thanked her for loving him as she passed away.”
Context:
Izumi Uchiha is Itachi's only friend in the academy I guess you can also say she's a childhood friend, she was also his last friend in the clan and I believe even Fugaku (Itachi's father) (correct me if I'm wrong) asked her to look after him since a parent and a friend is different especially since during those times Itachi was going through A LOT.
What that would have been grreeeeaaaaattttt .what the heck why did they not animate that?
That has to be one of reasons why Naruto didn't become a masterpiece.
Izumi did make an appearance later in Ep 455 and a few earlier ones when Itachi's story was being told from Itachi's perspective. Ep 450 to 458 did try to cover up as much as they could from the Itachi Shinden novel. But I guess because it was based off on the novel, they were unable to stretch it out going in depth for each detail in the novel since it would've led to episodes getting extended more than wanted, leading to the chance of not being able to finish the entire show within the intended 500 episodes then. So I get that they had to summarize the entire novel as concisely short as they could.
Although I wouldn't have complained about it at all if it were to happen. Fillers are fine and all, but I've always wanted the smaller details to be made into series of "slightly lower importance" episodes. Take Minato for example, wouldn't have minded at all seeing a few good number of episodes based on the legend too, just his relationship with Jiraiya building nice and slow along with him leading on few more interesting missions with his perspective.
Would really have given everything to see something like that.

I cried just like u both did....itachi a kid had to sacrifice so much...imagine the sheer pain he carried with himself...the world hating him for being a traitor and a criminal(terrorist) and yet he was the one protecting the village from the shadows all along...loosing everything even his own brother hated him all his life...after all that no one ever knew itachis kindness, love and loyalty he died being hated onn by the world...and his own little brother...😢such a tragic death
Itachi’s will of fire is only surpassed by his love for Sasuke. For the sake of the village and providing Sasuke a safe space to grow strong, he gave up the rest of his life in turn alienating Sasuke. One can only imagine the weight of that burden. I still remember the chills I got as he smiled upon dying in front of Sasuke. Relief and release of a truly terrifying sacrifice.

Technically Tobi is the one to blame.
If you read the novel you can get to know a fact that he was also a part of the coup d'etat, but ended up betraying Uchiha and taking Itachi's side.
He was also responsible for nine tails incident(known fact), Uchiha's stone preparation, casual murders(including Itachi's teammate).
People blame Danzo, but he was just obsessed over Konoha's safety and jealous of Hiruzen's place.
If Tobi hadn't taken part in the coup by instigating Fugaku's right hands(those three Uchihas that Itachi knocked down) and most importantly - didn't fuck with Kyubi, then characters like Minato, Kushina, Shisui, Itachi(as a future of Konoha) would stay alive for at least a bit longer yet coup could have been prevented as there would not be an exact reason to do so.
Hiruzen could be blamed aswell as It was mentioned that he had wasted an entire year that Shisui's death gave them, but as it's been said multiple times by many different characters - coup could not be avoided at this point.
People expect Sasuke to act like a logical and rational human being after all this. Sasuke from now on acts on pure emotion. It's a huge character flaw from him but it's a very compelling one. There was a reason why Itachi kept it all secret from him, cause he knew Sasuke would act this way. Tobi telling the story was great manipulation from him to achieve his goals as well.
Few have a love for Konoha as strong as Itachi. Sasuke simply valued his brother and his suffering more. We can understand his stance but still be critical, though.

Itachi is recognised as one of the most well written character in anime. ❤
Itachi is the wisest and deepest anime character of all times. It's been said that he was wise enough to be hokage when he was only a kid, he saw the horrors of war first hand at a very early age and it shaped his philosophy and the whole understanding of the world. His decisions and the sacrifices he had to make can't be understood by looking at it on a surface level, he is much more nuanced than that. He is Masashi Kishimoto's masterpiece, and will always be the best anime character for me personally.
Not all-round wise. But just enough so he knew how violence could cease one's life real quick in a world where most people lived to battle. But his childhood's episodes showed us how he was always mulling over what was what. IOW he was always asking himself questions.

@@mastixencounterI have watched an awful lot of it, countless episodes from each and every genre and i read their mangas as well. I told you guys, Itachi is always going to be the best for me. Some other characters which i like from other series include; Whitebeard, Aizen, Gennosuke Kouga, Afro, Saitama, Anos, Guts, Takamura, Edward Elric, Reborn, All Might and the list goes on and on. I'm a die hard Itachi fan though.
When the only person Itachi trusted to look after his younger brother died (the third Hokage), he came to Konoha to threaten Danzo and his ANBU team not to kill Sasuke in episode 81, he really cared about Sasuke, even Itachi's final goal was just to make his younger brother a hero who has killed a village traitor, showing the love of an older brother to his younger sibling 😢😢😢
For Michele - Itachi's "lover" is an Uchiha girl named Izumi. You do see / meet her later in the series, in a flashback.

Itachi was the true unsung hero.. imagine not wanting any credit or recognition for all the dark shit he went through, imagine how big his heart has to be in order to die as a villian.
Yeah, and to do something that horrible for the sake of the village and to prevent others from doing it, he took all the responsibility, even with his heart being broken for killing his own parents 😢 it's a very sad story

And this is why Itachi is my favorite character, I grew up with only older brothers so this episode really got to me.
Same I grew up with my younger baby bro, and made many sacrifices for him so that he wouldn't experience some of the dark 💩 that missed me up. I didn't want to influence him too much, I wanted him to grow up as a happy kid with his childhood and innocence intacked.

According to Novel - Obito took care of kids and womens. Itachi tho was meant to kill a wife of one of Fukagu's right hands including him.
Another thing that you seem to forget about - Every single member(except Itachi/Shisui) was always taking part in Uchiha meetings, where details about the coup were discussed.
After one meeting even Shisui asked Itachi If Fugaku could be taken seriously.

Bro, this is the greatest and most memorable plot twist, in my opinion .when I was a kid I used to watch naruto on tv in the early 2000's. The ultimate villain back then was itachi and orochimaru. Then you become an adult and watch this plotwist. I couldn't sleep that night😂. I was imagining the suffering itachi must have been through 😢. 😂

That last shot of Sasuke crying before revealing his mangekyo is EASILY one of my favorite shots in the whole series. So much depth to that shot.
This anime took things from real life and put it into perspective for others to see and relate. The endless cycle of hatred, How emotions effects everyone, People don't truly understand each other until they experience the same, War is inevitable and peace is a false concept and many more. This anime is literally a life lesson and it though me more about the real world then the entirety of my education.
Sasuke really misunderstood Itachi though. Itachi is one of the best characters there ever have or will be in Naruto and anime in general. It probably is not surprising now that he is so beloved by everyone.

The part where they mentioned Itachi killed his girlfriend, this is how it was mentioned in the novel. He snuck into her house and cast a Tsukuyomi on Izumi. In that illusion, she lived a peaceful life with Itachi in which they were married and had children. The same illusion ended in her becoming sick and lying on her deathbed. Itachi decided to use that timing to his advantage and kill her then and there. It cant get better and more painful than this :')
Some trivia for the Uchiha coup.
In the third great ninja war, there were two exceptional ninjas in konoha. The yellow flash Minato and Wicked Eye Fugaku (saskue's father). They were both considered to be the next hokage candidates. Minato was 22 while Fukagu was 27-28. Yet still the village made a meer young boy hokage and that pissed off the uchihas. What pushed them over the edge was after the death of 4th hokage, Fukagu was again nominated as a candidate for hokage but the elders wanted Jiraya. After jiraya declined they asked 3rd to be hokage again sidelining the uchihas.

I understand you guys go for team Taka ... But understand this.. Itachi's the one who protecting Konoha to begin with , he wanted to Prevent War because he love his Village... BUT his love for his brother is more tho ..and the reason why Amaterasu automatically activated was to prevent Madara using Sasuke's hatred so he wont turn to Konoha for revenge , Sasuke's still young and immature in Mind compared to Itachi even at the age of 8

It's less about the weapons at his disposal and more about how he utilized those. It's been said that Itachi already had the wisdom of a Hokage when was only a child. He was THE visionary, always a hundred steps ahead of anyone else.

I can never not bawl my eyes out at this episode man, Itachi was the character I empathized with most in this anime and any anime really, his backstory makes me tear up everytime :(
I'm also speechless when i first watch the animated series and when i first learn the truth about that she make me cry so hard! 😢😢 i think in the whole show it touches that is the most saddest part of the show and that's why maybe there's so many people that like itachi
