Can't imagine the McLaren F1 without the BMW S70 V12. Imagine if it ended up with a Honda V12 or V10 as originally planned by Gordon Murray. Unfortunately Honda backed out of the project, in which it may be a lost opportunity for Honda at that time. Gordon Murray is pleased with the horsepower output of the BMW S70 V12, but he isn't expecting that it exceeded the weight limit. In the end he take it, for he is left with no other option.
I read from a few papers that Honda couldn't due to it.... Gordon's expectations were impossible.... That's when he went to Paul Rosche for help..... I've noticed that everyone is very politcally correct when mentioning Honda's denial..... nobody seems to mention or ask why honda said no......
You sure it wasn't Gran Turismo 4? From what I remember playing the hell out of it, THAT was the first GT game that had this exact Team BMW Motorsport entry (Chassis 26R)
I know i'm gonna get flamed from this, but the version of this car from Need For Speed High Stakes sounds a lot better. Not a fan of how the real car sounds.
Just curious, that Fina McLaren F1 GTR has BMW Motorsport livery, even the steering wheel has BMW logo at the center. Implying that actually this McLaren F1 was just BMW's mid engined supercar in disguise.
That #42 car was owned and raced by the BMW factory. The team at LeMans was all BMW aka Team Schnitzer (the team that raced the DTM factory cars for BMW), I know since I was there back in '97. They can put whatever they want on it.
Its a great marriage between BMW and McLaren. I also wish that in the V10 era of Formula One. McLaren have used the V10 engines of BMW. Cause they are a lot more reliable than the Mercedes-Benz Ilmor V10 engine. Unfortunately the magnificent BMW V10 is mated to a terrible Williams chassis. If McLaren had BMW engines, then surely the Ferrari - Schumacher dominance might have ended sooner.
Not sure where you make that connection, but its not even remotely that. If that were the case, then that'd apply to the entries from GTC Competition, Team Lark, EMKA Racing, Parabolica Motorsport, Team Take One and Gulf Team Davidoff (As well as the original development car, which is maintained by Mclaren and does not have that BMW badge despite still having the same S70 engine that is found even in the Short tail version from 1995). The F1 GTR Longtail seen here, Chassis 26R, is owned by BMW. Same goes for the two Short tail entries that also ran in BMW Motorsports liveries the year before, chassis 17R (Car #39) and chassis 18R (Car #38). There's no BMW supercar connection here, just a car that was run as a Factory BMW entry and as such retains BMW badging.
One of the best sounding engines of all-time imo!
Got to love the sound of the F1 GTR!!
Happy 25th anniversary F1 GTR!
Wooo 25 years ago short tailed version won in Lemans.
Thank you for putting this together. THE most BEAUTIFUL GT car ever (i.m.o.) McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail with a great sound.
TVR speed 12 ?
She is a BEAUTY WITH A POWERFUL V12 BEAST.!!💯💯💯😍😍🥰😍😍😍
Outside of an F1 car, the McLaren F1 GTR is the best sounding car in the world period.

BMW POWERED 🤷

Even a BMW steering wheel haha
it`s a BMW wheel cause the Engine is a BMW. the Chassis is only the McLaren. if you want it`s a "BMW F1 GTR McLaren" :D
SpeedMotors Racing-Team so does that go for the road cars does that mean there bmw because they have a bmw engine ?
🇩🇪🇬🇧
BMW?? 🤔
Vnce Caliber Didn’t know that?
McLaren F1s sound like over exaggerated Aventadors
*Change my Mind*
imo aventador sounds totally different, F1 GTR is kind of unique
