The coach feedback one hit home for me. I train at a big gym with many high level guys (I’m not one of them). The coach gives great details on techniques, but virtually no feedback on overall performance. I had a brown belt take me under his wing, so I ask him for specific feedback every couple of months, and that has really helped me make progress.
I've been at it for 8 months. I feel I've gotten better, but I'm also getting left behind. Then i just competed for the first time. I got beat so badly that I've lost all confidence and not even sure i like it anymore. I'm having a hard time focusing on my own pace of progress. I'm also 43 with no other coordination experience so objectively i know I'm going to progress slower.
Don’t put loads of pressure on your self. I’m 4 stripe white belt in my 30s with a full time job and kids. Obviously you ain’t gonna keep up with the 20 year old guy at college who lives at home who trains 5 times a week. Once I got my head around that it’s much more enjoyable. Just enjoy your own journey at your own pace!
@jk9685 thanks. I'm better now. I just felt so down after that comp. Not because I lost but because I didn't do good jiu jitsu. I've analyze it and realized I did a lot wrong that had me in the wrong mindset. Not to mention getting choked unconscious for the first time in my first match then having 6 more...
