Thanks for the kind words. 15hours really isn't alot for issues like this, it might be possible for your dealership to approach KTM in regards to a refund on parts? I have herd KTM can be great to deal with in situations like yours compared to other manufacturers.
For information this is a good type of a video gets to the point. Just about how I would make one. Well done brother.. sincerely,Quick. Ps. The only thing I would have added is the spread range 455-545 ohns/resistance. 😊
I have been experimenting with low resistance in stators. I baked the stator at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. The resistance came back after cooled. Worth a shot if youre stator is smoked anyway
Top Video!!! I would like to ask you a little question. What a spark plug reference would you advise me to put in my ktm 50 sx 2016? advise the model that the bike brings or is there a spark plug reference that works better?
Hi Luis. NGK LR8B is the stock plug. A plug you can try is the NGK C7HSA which is a hotter heat range. Some have had success with changing to the C7, and is a popular off the shelf plug so you shouldn't have any trouble sourcing it.
Great video! After watching this I measured the stator of my kid's KTM (289 ohm) so tomorrow I'll pick up a new stator and hopefully the bike will start.
Hey man Question for you did the bike have spark still and was a pig to start? very hard time to start bog when dump throttle if you can even get it started
@@Gr33n3r123 Our bike didn't start at all with the bad stator. What's your reading of the stator? I belive a stator that's starting to go bad will make the bike hard to rev. Have you checked the carb? Take it apart and clean it thoroughly with carb cleaner or brake cleaner.
Great video just wanted to give you a heads up on what in my opinion on these stators. The stator is a very poor and cheap design. What causes them to go bad. The plate stack is weak and over time with heat and cooling cycles the expand then contract. The rivets that hold the stack together stretch and the plates become loose. This can be tested by taking a heat gun to the stator heating it causing the plates to expand. Then check the ohms with your meter and see what you get. I just went from 280 cold to 500 hot. Now when it cools back down it went right back to 280 ohms. I also heated the bad stator then placed it in the bike hot and the bike started first kick. Just a FYI I would think that KTM would have some type of recall on this issue since these stators are just a junk design. Test this out for your self. The stators I would think could be repaired since there really not bad. I wouldn’t even bother getting a oem stator Amazon has lots of cheap ones that will last just as long.
Some really good info there Michael thanks. You sure have looked into it alot more than I have. I have also herd of people having a good resistance reading cold, but breaking down with heat. Sounds like some real quality control issues
@@jameswharton3143 cold start with heat expansion after running the bike could also cause a very high ohm reading that could cause damage to the coil , plug and also the pickups on the stator. There are 2 issues one cold one hot. Same results

Interesting one Luke. To my it sounds like your stator is ok, by rights a hot component should have an increase in resistance. I'll test mine hot this weekend and get back to you
The sator is the equivalent of an alternator. The stator for the ktm50 has 2 "cores" the core is a magnet that has been wrapped in insulated copper wire. As the "flywheel" turns. This causes induction between the cores and the flywheel producing a/c current which energizes the ignition coil. Hope this helps. If you dont understand, look up the definitions one by one.
Hey mate. I have found lots on ebay (Australian based) selling the stator for under $50. but they all say, 2002-2012 models. The new genuine 2017 one from my store, are $160. Is this correct?
Hi there, the correct part number for your bike is 451 39 004 000. $160 sounds correct. The $50 Ebay ones you are describing are aftermarket Chinese replicas which I don't have any experience with. They could be worth a shot but I would question their reliability.
