Bike check of my 1996 GT LTS

  • Hang out with me as I talk about my 1996 GT LTS. Feel free to ask me any questions or comments you have about the bike. And yes, I love my Oakley gloves so much even if they're clearly worn out!
    Of note, a few corrections in my video:
    1. I meant to say Risse Astro-5 rear shock and not Genesis.
    2. I point at the front derailleur and call it a three speed shifter. It is a three speed front derailleur.

    I have a question? The rear suspension is some type of cloud system the bike is around 1998 . Can you tell me anything special about it sir

    • @yuri_on_youtube
      @yuri_on_youtube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure, I believe the rear shock you're talking about is a Cloud 9 made by Cane Creek. It's an air shock system, right? I don't know if those a rebuildable or not but if you ask a Retro Shox on Instagram, he'd have a better idea unless you're in the US, then Risse Racing may be a person to ask.

      I'm with you - even by today's standard, it's a really plush bike. I have ridden and used the seatpost so much that I can fit a 27.2 mm seatpost in it...so now it has a dropper post in it.
      Also, I'm having a bike fabricator make a disc brake seatstay linkage for it just for fun - I still run the plain original for now. Wishing you and your loved ones a safe quarantine.
      By the way, if you haven't followed GT on Facebook, they are for a limited time showing "Full Travel" which is a documentary style video of their GT full suspensions which you'll totally wax nostalgia.

    Is that a LTS-2 rear triangle that you put on a LTS-1 front triangle?

      I can't confirm if a swingarm swap happened with the previous owner but I have not swapped the swingarm on this 96' since this is v-brake compatible.
      I cannibalize chainstays from LTS bikes of the same vintage because the chainstay pivots do fatigue and will crack with frequent hard riding.
      At any rate, thanks for watching my video and your question. I'd recommend joining the "GT Bike Owners" group if you have Facebook.

      for that year only the lts-1 and the thermoplastic sts had that titanium part on the rear end. The downhill boomerang had it too for racers . later years others had it .

  • @supervortex8363
    @supervortex8363 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    they feel great to ride for me the LTS and STS style frames with this system is bester than a swing arm the way it pinches the shock ...do you know of any place i can get a new backend? i have a small 16" LTS 5000 in steel i wanted to put the backend from a sts 1 on ito it , upgrade it , as its nice and small i litteraly just have the front end frame

    • @yuri_on_youtube
      @yuri_on_youtube  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a few options but you really have to love the bike to spend the money:
      1. Finding a donor frame but that's the used option.
      2. You'd have to find a CNC/Machine shop or bike fabricator willing to make you a copy of swingarm pieces you need - that easily is at least in USD $300 plus.
      Risse Racing (www.risseracing.com) 'might' fabricating a rear end but it is not cheap.

  • @supervortex8363
    @supervortex8363 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    do you know were i can get the LTS disc break rear frame part?

    • @yuri_on_youtube
      @yuri_on_youtube  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I did. I know there are disc brake adapters that exist for the LTS but the reviews are so mixed with good and bad that it has put me off.
      However, if I do pursue that, I would go to my bike fabricator and have him weld one on and per his experience, re-heat treat the 6061 aluminum.

    • @yuri_on_youtube

      If it is the gusset that was at the seatube and top tube, I'd 'guess' the boomerang LTS DH frames of the 97'+.

    • @yuri_on_youtube

      I don't know other than from conjecture that perhaps the the Dash 1 and Team decals and bikes are the more popular or common GT LTS bikes.
      I find more videos and posts about even the LTS elastomer bikes than the Dash 2s. But the vids, decals and forum discussions exist for all trim levels, just takes varying degrees of search box prowess.
