      Ahhh will definitely take a look at that. The strict realism mod I helped test for back in the day (made by members of the old Chivalry Total War team and Jam if I'm not mistaken) is outdated (not sure if it works anymore), but I will start digging. There certainly are a lot of mods for Shogun 2 out now...

    Which mod (with as much objectivity as possible) is in your oppinion the best for Rome II, between DeI, WotG and the new Para Bellum?

    • @GudeaTW
      @GudeaTW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm that's a good question. I haven't tried Para Bellum yet - will take a look at it! Seems like its installation has additional instructions... I'd say that I enjoy both DeI and WotG. Honestly, I enjoy vanilla Rome 2 as well... it's a tough call. DeI and WotG are very different mods... they are hard to compare. DeI is definitely more my style of mod (slower paced, more focused on building than constant battling). What kind of mod is Para Bellum?

    • @marcusaureliusantoninusaug2161
      @marcusaureliusantoninusaug2161 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GudeaTW Hard to describe, the campaign is a bit more WotG like, but the battles are amazing. They are the best since Total Realism III imo. I don't like the battles in DeI at all (campaign is nice though) and in WotG the battles feel too generic for me, even with Bran Mac's submod.
      I'd say campaign wise 6/10, 8/10 if someone likes WotG's campaign, in terms of battles 9/10 and in terms of asthetics it's the best total overhaul out there. It's incredibly beautiful, starting from the UI, unit cards, unit reskins all the way to sshaders and effects that the additional packs provide with the mod. So asthetically 9,5/10. Only Celticus HD reskins are better, which are only available for Vanilla as of now.

  • @Heldermaior

    Economy in tw games is hard to balance because of how idiotic the AI is. When fighting against a player the AI really stands no chance except when it has numerical superiority which makes mods such as this easier since the player can easily field full stacks which takes away from the challenge. It is a problem of scaling down a realistic economy while at the same time realize that the AI can hardly tie its own shoelaces.

    • @GudeaTW
      @GudeaTW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's definitely true, and in so many mods that have difficult to manage economy systems, the AI is so horrible that it becomes too easy for the player. However, I have to say that Wars of the Gods is HARD - the AI will steamroll you quickly if you don't build up your armies immediately and make alliances (I should know.... lol)

    • @Heldermaior
      @Heldermaior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @clark cimmerian well, it is busy I will tell you that. But I have yet to lose a full stack vs stack battle so it kind of makes it redundant having all that difficulty.

    • @Heldermaior
      @Heldermaior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @clark cimmerian maybe. I normally like more realistic mods though and casualties in this mod and DEI are already way too high for my taste.

    • @Heldermaior
      @Heldermaior 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @clark cimmerian There is no reason to believe they were more or less than at any other period in history. I mean, they die too fast and units break too late.

    3:30 right there is exactly why no beautiful UI or stat tweaking or unit cards can make this game good to me. look at how the phalanx has completely sucked into itself and effectively doesn't exist while a cleverly planned charge does absolutely nothing. no impact. no hit. the enemy who has been charged just casually walks away into the black hole of the warscape phalanx. nothing can fix that.

    • @GudeaTW
      @GudeaTW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I talk about this a bit in my DeI vid - Wars of the Gods is more like a Darthmod type game, while DeI is more Europa Barbarorum. Wars of the Gods has more battles and is faster paced, but a bit more grindy, while DeI is more slow-paced and encourages building, consolidating, and more decisive battles. It's up to you which one you prefer more!

      @@GudeaTW Ok thanks for answer!

  • @Userius1
    @Userius1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I couldn't get into this one. Felt somewhat off to me and they seemed to just throw in a bunch of units without them figuring a use for them. DEI has some unit bloat too, especially with the Roman AOR system (hmmm, Lucanian hoplites or Oscan hoplites that have better stats?), but here it's like they give you a dozen of the same skirmishers to pick through.

    • @GudeaTW
      @GudeaTW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's very much in the vein of Darthmod in terms of the gameplay and design - lots of units, grindy campaign, epic/slow-paced battles... It's not the mod for me personally, but I can see why people enjoy it.

    • @Userius1
      @Userius1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GudeaTW I can see that. Not for me, but to each their own. As for Darthmod, do you remember the one for RTW? I recall you could side charge a legionary with two cataphract units and the legionary would still win. Roman balance was thrown out the window in favor of just making them invincible.

    • @jasonargos110
      @jasonargos110 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There plenty of units to pick from cause they are from different surrounding cultures and all have different flavors and abilities. There are many many AOR units in the mod that you can only recruit from a certain area on the campaign map. Sounds like you did not play any campaigns-only custom battles.

    • @Userius1
      @Userius1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonargos110 Yeah maybe I'd give it a second go. I did play campaign for a tiny bit and some of the economy and PO stuff felt rather simplified. Kind of more of a Roma Surrectum deal where DEI is more of a Europa Barbarorum. Maybe going at it again will give me more of a formed opinion, but I've lost enough of my life to Total War as is.

    • @JohnSmith-kn5xx

      Its not that it felt off its just not fun to play at all.

  • @seraphx26
    @seraphx26 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My understanding of the mod is that the money is intentionally set high to encourage building a lot of armies, it's a mod that prioritizes battles over campaign management from what I've seen.

    • @GudeaTW
      @GudeaTW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, not really my style

    • @jasonargos110
      @jasonargos110 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is set hightfor the ai factions so they will not be steam rolled by the player as Rome 2 is very easy. For the player they can use the Hard Economy sub mod and or the Slower campaign sub mod Or the Realism sub mod. to concentrate on campaign management. If campaign management is really your thing them Total War is not the game to play. I would recommend playing Imperator Rome by Paradox. Total War has always been centered around fighting battles and war-thus the name of the series.
