The shims on your crank sensor is to compensate for work crank bearings on older engines. Had one go out on my suburban with 330k miles on it. The crank was rubbing on the sensor. When I put the new crank sensor in I used putty to see where the frank rubbed off the putty then measured the thickness of the putty that was left on the sensor. Most likely the code that you’re getting is a crank/cam correlation code. You need a good scan tool to set the crank cam correlation. It’s pretty simple with the right scan tool. There are tons of videos on TH-cam about setting it correctly.
The vortec engines are notorious for distributor issues. It’s insanely annoying because the codes and symptoms will lead you down another path and a dead end. I’ve lost count how many I’ve replaced and how many people I’ve told to replace the distributor. They always think I’m crazy, but it fixes it! Especially if you have a random misfire code. Those are straight up evil.
I have a shim on my 99 burban but was wondering when u changed distribution did u also replace crank sensor in distributor that caused mine to jump timmimg when it went out
Unless there is something wrong with the spider you're replacing, the answer is no you won't notice a difference. Don't do it unless there's a problem or you already have it apart.
Man I am so glad you got it running good its such a releaf I no i don't no how many miles are on your truck but my 98 gmc has 259000 miles on her and I had to do my disturtor at like 223000 it was not starting at all and the cap had a big gap between the cap and base I could spend you some pic on Facebook message if you would like to see the only thing I have now is I have cracked to caps on it dont no why so keep an eye on that i am not sure if the new caps are made cheaper and do t hold up well but other then that my truck runs great even at almost 260000 miles I am glad its over for you

I may just try this also
It'll probably help everything

Cool 😎 I'm going to check the distributor on my 95 2 door tahoe.
Definitely! And I recommend the Bluetooth OBD Reader and the Dashcommand app to verify timing.
Do you feel injector upgrade helped ? Or notice a difference

I knew it was the timing the same thing happened to me lol but I’m glad you got it back up an runing man!
I'm so glad that the truck is back up and runnin' like it should be, love the build man!

Good Deeeaaal! I figured that distributor was the case. Mine went out on my old 90. That was a parking lot fix lol
Damn good to know, glad for you, I knew it was your distributor, thought it may have been cap and rotor, never knew it could jump timing like that
WOOHOO!! SHE IS FIXED!! GRATZ BRO!
so do you think the spider injection upgrade helped the performance of the truck at all??
Honestly...not really. It might have increased throttle response a little bit not nothing really noticable.
Ok never mind
Got a '97 c-1500 stepside which is a 3 door is yours a 3 door?
Yes, it is
I'm here buddy
If it jumped time I would check timing chain. That's the only thing that could make this happen
What are the mirrors from
My 97 was missing like crazy and the distributor plate was about rusted in half but the dude we took it to a year ago said he replaced it🤣
Great news bro! I told ya so! Jk lol can’t wait to see the rendering
Let’s gooooo 💜💪🏽
