  • As deerstalker Roy Lupton starts to gralloch a lame buck he has culled, a dog walker shouts that he is a 'cruel b*****d' for 'shooting stags'. Roy, frustrated by the ignorance of some people, decides to show the woman exactly why he was committed to finding this animal. This item appears on TH-cam in Fieldsports Britain, episode 7. People in their ivory towers always think they're somehow helping nature by being loud obnoxious blowhards, but the real environmentalists are the hunters working hand in hand with the fish and wildlife department, or whatever you call it over there.
    People want to think nature is all peace and harmony, but it's not; quite the contrary, and for life - any life - to live, some other life MUST die. There is no getting around that, and I think too many people in modern society are so disconnected with nature that they don't realize death is an integral part of preserving life. It's far more humane to shoot a wounded or starving animal than it is to be "cruelty free" and let it continue suffering. Not to mention, taking out older animals can yield some great meat, paves the way for the younger animals, and grants the older animal a quick, clean death as opposed to being ripped apart and eaten alive by dogs, wolves, mountain lions, or bears.
    Game meat is so good, too! 100% natural diet, the animal lived a life of freedom, and you kill it yourself, so you KNOW the animal didn't suffer... unless you're a bad shot, in which case get your butt out to the range more often and get good!

      all that old crap about the "noble" hunter as conservationist is all bullshit! it takes qualified scientists, biologists etc. to understand the ecology of wildlife and the systems they occupy and NOT a bunch of science iliterate sixth grade educated rednecks! and as if all hunters shoot are the sick and weak animals! really? come on man thats total bullshit! what hunters want are the very biggest and healthiest animals! it has ALWAYS been about large sizes. it is hunters who deprive animal populations of the very healthiest gene pools! it is why there are no more thirty foot crocodiles or twelve foot tall brown bears or 75 lb. salmon. because humans have taken those genes out of existence over the last 5,000 yrs! and as far as trophy hunting/thrill killing goes, well if you are doing it for the short lived thrill or to put the animals head on a wal then you are a sick fucker who needs some professional help!

    • @DarkVenom1432

      @Derrick K if your dog is so well behaved you should have no problem keeping it on a leash. It also takes training to get a dog to behave in public on a leash. The point is no matter how well your dog is trained IF something happens 40feet gives you no time to react and do something. Again this is in public areas. On your own property let your dog loose. This type of thinking makes dog owners look bad.

    • @jmkhenka
      @jmkhenka 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      How is waiting such a bad thing, once its over you have it.. In sweden supressors are licens items like rifles, and we are not allowed to use them on rimfires (well its more complicated). But there is nothing more then paying a couple bucks and waiting for permit. Ods of getting denied is small. I have 2 supressors, i use them on my 308 and 6.5 grendel. Otoh, i can only legaly own 6 guns at most unless i have a collectors license or join a shooting club.
      Rifles on hunting permits i can train with on the range, but rifles on competition license i cant hunt with.. weird, as it can be the same rifle.

      @coldandaloof7166 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      There is no logic to it. Bad guys rarely use suppressors anyways. In 20 years as a cop I have never recovered a firearm from a bad guy equipped with a suppressor. That law is pointless. I have gotten illegal SBS's, lots of cheap autos and some 22 revolvers. Most common hiding places is the seat cushion of a wheelchair (I've seen it personally 3 times) and front seat or console of cars. Happens frequently even in the small town I work in. They have all been loaded with FMJ rounds except the 2 Khar 9mm 2 years ago that still had Hornady Critical defense the owner had left in it when the crook lifted it from his parked car in his driveway.

It would be like if you had to apply for a new firearms license every time you wanted to buy a suppressor.

    • @njc110381
      @njc110381 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@josephvanas6352 In the UK we kind of do. We apply for a firearms licence to allow us to buy specific firearms that we have asked for, and proven that we need. Several firearms can be put on the licence initially but all need to be justified. If we want another firearm later though, suppressor included, we have to apply for a "variation" - basically send in our license along with a form stating what we want, why we need it etc and a payment for the service and they will add it on. The silly part is if I sell my .30-06 for example, I need to send the license back to have a new .30-06 allowance added to it to allow me to replace it. So we can't even swap like for like without going through the process. Also, it's not always allowed. If the police don't think my reason to have it is justified they will refund my payment and tell me I can't have it.
      We're also told how much ammo we're allowed to have, and what we're allowed to shoot with the gun and sometimes where we can shoot it too. That could be targets only, and only at an approved range. Or if we can show that we need to shoot animals - rabbit, foxes, deer etc then that's allowed if they think we're safe enough to do it. It could be restricted to an area that's been checked and deemed safe for shooting by the police, usually new shooters have an area restriction but it is removed so we can decide for ourselves what is safe once we're more experienced.
      Someone like Roy in this video will probably have an "open" license which will allow him to shoot anywhere the owner of the land says he can. He will probably also be allowed to shoot "any lawful quarry" - so whatever animals need dealing with, it's up to him. But he will still need to do the applications for each gun, suppressor etc and prove that he needs them.

    In the village where I live, a new recreation field was opened. My cousin's husband farmed sheep in fields around the field. Several of his lambs were savaged by dogs and some died for no apparent reason. The dead sheep were examined and it would appear that when the council mowed the sports field, dog faeces were propelled through the chain link fence. The sheep were apparently killed by some form of dog worm. When my children were attacked and bitten by two terriers, I shouted across to the owners to put them back on their leads. One of the owners shouted that her dogs had as much right to run around as my "effing" children. When I managed to land a decent boot to the head of one of these dogs, she pulled out her mobile and called the police. I waited for the police to arrive but none did so I was unable to show them the bite wounds on my 6 year old son, my 8 year old daughter and me. On the same field I was told to "eff" off when I asked if a bloke was going to pick up the crap his dog had just left.

    This is conservational hunting. It helps make deer herds stronger and PREVENTS suffering by taking out lame or injured animals. I'm getting a dog soon but no way would I let it off the lead in a deer park or around livestock. We don't have cougar, bears or wolves here, so the deer's predator is the human being. Even predators like wolves will go for sick or lame deer. Deer management is done to strengthen deer populations and to try and get the strongest genes passed on. Please be considerate and keep your dog on a lead when deer or livestock are close by.

      That would be a good reason to reintroduce bears and wolves to the UK. I understand they've been extinct there since the 18th century. Not only to keep deer herds under control and healthier, but also to teach dog owners a lesson. Your dogs are running loose where they aren't supposed to be and then is attacked and possibly killed by a bear or wolf pack. Then they'll know how it feels to pay vet bills or loose their precious pet, like some people have lost livestock and wild animals because of irresponsible dog owners.

    Here in Arizona, we have leash laws throughout the state (except designated dog parks and Indian Reservations) and dogs =must= be leased (Or are supposed to be. The dog owner assumes ALL liability if they allow a dog to run free.) When we were still farming here, we rented out alfalfa fields to a sheeper friend for winter pasture, and did so for over 40 years. As we became more urbanized, he was diligent about posting our ranches with signs to warn dog owners that they'd be in the area for the next few weeks. He'd also go door-to-door posting flyers. Our game laws allow the shooting of dogs harassing/killing stock of any sort and the dog owners are liable for all losses, including, any losses that took place before any particular dog was caught or killed in the fields. I know that, on a couple occasions, the sheeper collected triple damages on some of the lambs and ewes he lost. Yes, it's hard on dog owners and, yes, sometimes they do accidentally get out, but part of the responsibility of owning dogs is being aware of where you live and what's going on around you. He hated having to shoot peoples dogs, but they were damaging his livelihood =and= laws were being broken at the same time.

    ok anti hunters /anti gunners ,a few questions
    1 do you eat meat? if so something had to die for you to eat . just because you don't see doesn't mean it didn't happen.
    2 do you own anything made of leather ? your car seats , belt, shoes, baseball, football watchband leather comes from animals .
    3 any idea how animals treat their own kind when it comes to survival. for the most part they run off the weaker ones who generally slowly starve to death .
    4 when is the forest floor the most abundant with browse for wildlife ? the spring after a forest fire . as a forest ages and trees grow they choke out the understory and reduce the amount of food available to wildlife.
    5 how many dear do you think a given acreage can feed , do you think its unlimited ? would you rather see a majority of dear healthy by hunting to control numbers or would you see all of them possibly not make it through the winter with no meat on their bones from lack of food?
    if you think that dear should have been taken to the vet are you willing to chase it down, catch it and pay the vet out of your pocket? or would you rather pay 30,000 to 50,000 a year to have game officers go try to track it down ? you ready to pay more taxes to pay for that ? what about the ones hit by cars ,you ready to raise your taxes to pay to have them brought back to health .
    the majority of hunters take game for meat, not for an adrenalin rush. if you think meat prices are high now, think about what they would be if all hunting stopped . hunters put about a hundred pounds each into their freezers each year for each dear they take . multiply that by the number of hunters and that's a lot of meat.
    think about the rise in your car insurance payments from hitting animals wandering across the road looking for food do to uncontrolled numbers.
    think about the damage to your home by animals looking for food digging into your walls.
    when its all said and done hunting is still allowed because it is still the most efficient way and the least costly way to control wildlife numbers. here in the us there is more wild game as of now than there has been in the last hundred years .
    around 1935[ don't know the exact] year ,American hunters set up with the government to impose game limits and seasons because the HUNTERS saw the way corporate hunters were decimating the numbers . nearly all wildlife restoration programs here in the us are funded by hunting license fees and taxes on guns and ammunition ,about 80%. the other 20% is made up by all other agencies combined including peta , aspca and others who would have hunting stopped . shall we pull our 80% of that?
    so the next time you want to cuss a hunter for taking the life of an animal, have a clue to what your talking about

      TheOldGunsmith58
      1) No.
      2) I try my best but it's unfair to call someone a hypocrite for attempting to make ethical choices in the face of complexity.
      3) Your absolutely right, nature is amoral, animals are not capable of ethical reasoning and in the wild they are caught up in a struggle for survival - I am not, neither are you.
      4) What's your point?
      5) Don't bullshit people as if hunting is merely an exercise in population control. This is a hunting estate, they feed deer at certain times of the year! Also deer populations in the UK are crazy high partly because we hunted wolves to extinction here, so if your concerned about deer populations and keeping a healthy population, lets reintroduce wolves! Who's with me?! Game managers?...no?...
      I work in UK conservation and I can confirm that most conservation HERE is not funded by hunters, though some conservationist do cull deer. Hunters are a mixed bag when it comes to conservation and there are many who both respect the animals they are killing and understand wildlife conservation well. But don't assume people who empathise with the animals, and feel it is a crime to shoot a beautiful intelligent creature in its prime (or otherwise), are ignorant, if that's what you think then you are ignorant.

      Wolves are not a serious threat to human life in the vast vast majority of cases. Plus if you were going to introduce wolves you would do it with a process of zonation. you have three or four zones in which different rules apply - core zones which are effectively nature reserves in restricted areas of the scottish highland (possibly wales) where the wolves are introduced and which contain very limited human presence. Secondary zones where wolves are protected but certain appropriate economic activities are allowed, such as forestry. These ares combined would be very large tracts of less pupulated land. Then a buffer zone in which wolves must be closely monitered and can be trapped and returned if there is concerns. Finally the remaining area consitituting the majority of the country would be zone four in which wolves should not be and can be shot legally by licensed hunters or by a government body. This is how reintroductions of large predators generally work.

    "I hate humanity."
    Well, then it is time for a psychiatrist.
    Humans are not pure herbivores. Meat is a normal part of our nutrition and as long as you plan to eat the animal, you have the same right to hunt as any living thing has, which feeds on meat.

      Andreas Stor Don’t be rude. It’s great to recommend psychiatric help to people that actually need help, but she was probably just expressing her views. All forms of unnecessary violence is WRONG.
      I think humans are omnivores, but we don’t need meat in order to survive anymore. We can do quite well without it, so why eat it when it comes from a sentient animal that has had to die?
      If you see a dead animal on the side of a road, their guts out and blood, do you think “yum” and want to eat them? A carnivore like a mountain lion or coyote would. If you see a picture of someone slitting the throat of a cow 🐮 that’s hung upside down in a slaughterhouse, blood out, do you feel hungry or do you think it’s a gruesome scene?
      Thank you 😊 to the moon 🌒 (a special, good moon) and back.
      May you and all sentient beings be perfectly well, healthy, happy and safe forever.
      Best Wishes,
      Rory.

    Does it appear that Roy too has a limp 😉🤦‍♂️?
    Growing up in the country as a youngster, I remember a year that the game wardens had to have a ‘hunt’. Being only 1/2 hr from the city, so a catchall for dumped strays, we had developed a problem of a ‘pack’ of domestic/discarded dogs, the pack had everything from small terriers right up to German Shepard size dogs. They would pursue the deer bringing down 4-5 at a time, with only minor consuming of the meat.
    The pack had reached over 30 dogs. The pack had also scared children out playing (no injuries but lots of growling and other aggressive behaviour), also responsible for 2 separate family pets (dogs) being killed. 1 they killed outright, the second after being viewed by the vet, it was decided for humane reasons to put the dog down.
    ‘Pets’ don’t hunt for food, rather they get in a chase frenzy and kill indiscriminately. Leaving much of the game with a range of injuries, if not killed outright.

    that shot at 4:17 wasn't a good one to take. He's lucky it brought him down. Deer was almost facing straight away. could have injured him only and made him suffer. Nonetheless, it worked out for him, which is good. It just wasn't a very good shot to take as a general rule.

      +David Carr And if you pause it at 4:08, you can see the barrel of the gun and the scope in the bottom right, right in front of the camera crew. As hunters, we shouldn't take shots at deer either straight on or straight away due to the deer's anatomy. It may only injure the deer.
