Well at least they punish their politicians for crimes.
Half of all living South Korean ex-presidents are in prison currently

Who cares? That’s not something to be proud of. The people literally voted for an ex dictator’s daughter. She’s now in prison. Their first female president is a total disgrace! The outcome was not hard to predict

They submitted impeachment motions against those investigating the crimes of the opposition party leader (such as the Minister of Justice, the head of the Audit Office, prosecutors, and the Commissioner of the National Police Agency), leading to the suspension of their duties.
They have refused to appoint new constitutional court judges, indefinitely postponing impeachment trials. The news is missing the point. The opposition party leader Lee Jae Myung is a convicted felon (4 past convictions) who is currently undergoing 5 criminal trials for at least 11 serious charges of embezzlement, bribery, breach of national security, election fraud, and others. He just received a guilty sentence in one trial, which he promptly appealed. The evidence against him appears rather overwhelming. 37% of fellow Democratic Party members also have past criminal convictions, a record in South Korean history. Their party currently holds the majority in the Parliament (!) and in the past 2 years, has impeached without legitimate cause 29 cabinet members and government prosecutors investigating Lee's own crimes. Their strategy is to overthrow the executive branch and force a new presidential election as quickly as possible to get Lee elected president (He narrowly lost the election to Yoon in 2022 and still has a strong base of loyal supporters) before he inevitably exhausts his appeals and gets sent to prison. That way he can pardon his own crimes and achieve political salvation. This strategy has strong resemblance to what Trump has accomplished in the U.S.
