For anyone looking for this exact exhaust tone you have two options that both begin with: Catless Downpipes, 2x Vibrant 1792 Bottle resonators 2.5" inlet/outlet in place of your secondary cats. If you have a 335is that comes with a Genuine BMW Performance exhaust your exhaust will sound exactly like Adams. The majority of you don't so I simply did the PE Mod on my stock muffler and it sounds close to this except a TAD louder AND deeper toned. There is NO rasp up top with the PE mod and the sound is absolutely intoxicating. There is also no highway drone at any RPM so do not worry about that. Drone is only present if you remove your secondary cats or straight pipe it with no muffler. Cheers.
The problems your having with 1st to 2nd gear shifts is to do with the clutch delay valve. There are loads of videos on how to delete it, takes 20 minutes max The problems your having with the throttle delay are to do with the electronic throttle response being geared towards getting more mpg. It's a drive by wire that's why you have the lag you can go to a drive by cable and it will do away with that problem.i went that way with my Fbody but I went with a set of twins and the last time we checked we were at 1300 but we have a LSX.
There are plenty of drive by wire cars with good throttle response. There is typically little modules that amplify the signal for faster response, but it's not actually the signal it's the physical engine and the way it's designed that makes it hesitate.
I just got a car with drive by wire I hate it lmao. Already selling it to get something older again. Mines just a n/a but the throttle lag is very noticeable in the manual Trans.
these bmws have rev hang that may be holding boost, if you dip clutch you should notice it doesn't full go down to idle like a typical car just holds revs / slowly drops
okay, lol. its actually a "schubumluftventil" google it, its german. :D i'm too lazy to search up the translation. basically it holds boost when you shift and if you close the throttle after a quite quick upshift, it releases the excess boost.
The reason you stay in boost and don't hear the blow-off valve: if you shift quickly, you might be able to get back on the throttle before enough pressure builds up to open the blow off valve. Pressure builds up gradually because the throttle plate is closed and is blocking the compressed air from going into your pistons (leaving it nowhere to go). If this pressure reaches a certain level the blow off valve gets pushed open releasing the built up boost. So either your blow-off valve is set to a rather high pressure level, your turbo's are slow in building up that pressure (possibly because of a small boost leak) or your throttle plate isn't fully closing.
Lift = elevator in the U.S. and the original poster is spot on....check LZ's milestone vids if you are curious. To me, this car IS LXBMX/LZMFG and for want of this car, Adam is who he is today. Looking forward to watching it's build progress
The 335 has a diverter valve the can (but doesnt always) revert boost pressure back into the engine. Thats why it doesnt always blow off between gears like you were saying

Your 335i made me wanna get a BMW I ended up getting a 328xi e92 with the red interior as well yes I know it's not turbo but it's how much money I had at the moment
For the shifting issue try switching to redline trans fluid and replacing the shifter bushings while the trans is out. As for the throttle response, that's not single turbo related it's done within the tune that motiv includes. Loads of tunes for the 335 include the option to sharpen the throttle response. As for brakes, the new generation 335i sport brakes are 6 piston brembo's and they bolt on with minimal work and are much cheaper than any aftermarket big brake kit
About holding boost, the pops is sort of an anti lag system! So in a way like you said it feels like anti lag, it is! The pops are just a part of the combustion taking part in the exhaust system, so that combustion spools up te turbo, if I'm correct the car will also only do it when it's hot because the fuel ignites if coming in contact with the hot exhaust 😜

I didn't realize your 335i was basically FBO, turns out we have the exact same exhaust setup (but mine is a 135i). Since you're getting a mechanical LSD, you need to have someone code your electronic LSD so that it's off. Otherwise it will still interfere with your mechanical LSD and it won't function properly. If you're doing full suspension, you also need to get M3/solid subframe bushings, they make a huge difference. Good luck with the build!

The holding boost is probably because the car has a recirculation system. Which basically makes use the air more effectively rather than releasing it atmosphere.

The 1st to 2nd gear change issue is the engine sways under load and this causes things to not line up correctly at a certain rpm... You can buy engine torque dampers that correct this. I have one on my JDM Eunos or Miata to you. 😁 hope this helps ✌🏻️
Adam you should look into Sprint Booster, it's a plug and play module to help the delay in the electronic drive by wire gas pedal. You could get one for the BMW and Nicole's Mini.
Happy to see you're keeping the 335 and building it. Can't put a price on sentimental value. Gotta swap out that trim with carbon fiber or stainless honeycomb, though. That wood grain is not #racecar. lol I'd also go with the black msport headliner. Makes a big difference inside.
I am sure some BOV keep the pressure and then when you go into the next gear the boost is there so you don't need to wait for the turbo to build up again
Adam, the n54 has notorious shifting bog issues which are triggered by the ECU, especially noticeable in 1st -> 2nd and when you make more power it's more likely to happen in higher gears as well. As for now the easiest / best fix is MHD tune, which has a shift bog fix option for any map flashed. I also use the Jb4 no lift shift and that combination is our best option for 6 manuals however this transmission still struggles at launching and 1st -> 2nd gear shifts.
If you have any issues getting the car setup, just hit me up. I have a Single Turbo 135i, did the install myself and had no issues. But there are an few odd things that you can have issues with if you're not careful.
@Adam LZ you might have a clutch delay valve on your car which would contribute to high rpm grind going into second. If so they make a valve delete which I highly recommend

N54 engine is the GOAT...it's going to go down in history as one of the best platforms of all time...so much tuner potential...it's the new 2JZ...
JB4 has a setting for no lift shifting. So basically the turbos stay in boost when shifting

The 1st to 2nd gear change issue is the engine sways under load and this causes things to not line up correctly at a certain rpm... You can buy engine torque dampers that correct this. I have one on my JDM Eunos or Miata to you. 😁 hope this helps ✌🏻️
Adam you should look into Sprint Booster, it's a plug and play module to help the delay in the electronic drive by wire gas pedal. You could get one for the BMW and Nicole's Mini.
Keep the LM's. Absolutely love them. You could always rebuild them for a different size if you need to get more or less rubber under them.
Happy to see you're keeping the 335 and building it. Can't put a price on sentimental value. Gotta swap out that trim with carbon fiber or stainless honeycomb, though. That wood grain is not #racecar. lol I'd also go with the black msport headliner. Makes a big difference inside.
I am sure some BOV keep the pressure and then when you go into the next gear the boost is there so you don't need to wait for the turbo to build up again
Adam, the n54 has notorious shifting bog issues which are triggered by the ECU, especially noticeable in 1st -> 2nd and when you make more power it's more likely to happen in higher gears as well. As for now the easiest / best fix is MHD tune, which has a shift bog fix option for any map flashed. I also use the Jb4 no lift shift and that combination is our best option for 6 manuals however this transmission still struggles at launching and 1st -> 2nd gear shifts.
Full bolt on is downpipes , intercooler, chargepipe with bov, and Inlets. 500hp

If you have any issues getting the car setup, just hit me up. I have a Single Turbo 135i, did the install myself and had no issues. But there are an few odd things that you can have issues with if you're not careful.
@Adam LZ you might have a clutch delay valve on your car which would contribute to high rpm grind going into second. If so they make a valve delete which I highly recommend
