Thanks for your review, it was very helpful. This is the best digital multimeter Fluke ever produced.Very accurate. It's even much better than the Fluke 289. Whether you are in electronics or electrical sphere,it's loaded with a lot of features.Sadly,it's discontinued or you can buy one that is used at a fairly good price.

I have watched this video probably 12 times. Great video!!! The 189 is my go meter. I also have the 289, 376fc, 85v and other fc models. thank you

Nice vid - best overview of the 189 on TH-cam. Everybody seems to just review the 289 (which IMHO is a horribly slow meter). The 189 looks perfect as a bench meter - just a pity about the battery life. The BM869 looks to be its ~equal.

+TechBench Thanks. I enjoy using the 189. Its simple and gets the job done well. I am putting a video together comparing the TBM869 with the Fluke 189 and the 289. Will be coming out soon.

I just bought a 189 based off your review. I have been using a fluke 76 for many years, (great meter) but I needed something with a five degit display that was more portable than my bench top Data Precision 2480. I also love the data logging feature, going to be very handy.
Thanks for your review, was very helpful.

Hi! You are using rechargeable batteries, however Fluke doesn’t recommend it because there are 1.2v instead of 1.5v. They told that it could influence on the correct accuracy.

Thank you so much for the great review. I feel like I already know how to use the 189 after watching. I think is is a much better meter than the 289

As I observe this vlog the Fluke beat the other meter in every single test for speed, accuracy and resolution. Many of the newer Fluke DMMs don't instill the confidence that the older generation did. They were accurate, bulletproof and didn't drink all the coffee and leave the pot empty. I have dropped my 26 and 179 off of towers, cherry pickers, etc and they didn't suffer but minor cosmetic damage. The reason you spend premium DMM money is for a premium DMM product. The 117 sized Flukes with the exposed, oversized dial and the small flexy chassis don't feel any better than the hundred other chinese knock-off brands out there. I'm gonna' pick up a 189 as I've always wanted one and it will last me the rest of my life in reliability and features. I'll never need another DMM for field or bench use. Last great Fluke DMM IMO the Fluke 189. You get what you pay for.

Interestingly, the 87IV is the same as the 187, i wonder why they went down in spec for the 87V. Well that's my impression anyways. Its my favorite meter by far and i picked it up for R600 :D

+Wessel Lemmer Thats a really good price. If you see any more going please let me know. I have owned and used the 87V for a few years and find it decent for everyday use. However I do prefer the 189 / 187 meters.
This 189 may be going up for sale with its USB kit, extended battery etc. I love it but I need to change meters often so that there is always something new to review or play with. ;-)

The 189 and the Brymen BM869S are more on equal terms over the BM829. My 869s and my 189 perform almost identical in speed, accuracy and resolution. I have the Brymen BM525 which is a 829 with built in data logging like the Fluke but doesn't have the resolution like the 869S.

Along with the cheaper made in china 100 range I’ve tried but not owned, I’ve owned several of Fluke’s higher end meters. An 87V, 187, 123, and 289. The 187 is my favorite meter. The 289 is awful in my opinion. Horribly slow. I firmly believe the 187/189 is the best handheld dmm fluke ever made.
