As a firefighter we like using fireman axe not only it would chop wood but we use it as set of irons which is known as halligan tool marrying the fire axe together for force able entery for structural firefighting and wildland firefighting
Hi there. Great video. I´m planning to give the same use to a similar axe. did you change the edge file profile? what other suggestions to improve the axe as a wood splitter can you add?
go easy on hammering on the axes poll. the poll typically is NOT hardened like the bit edge. the poll is meant for counterbalance, to help the axe swing better. The poll is also good for hammering soft materials like wood, or a plastic wedge.....Never meant for hammering against a sledge hammer!!!!!! abuse like this causes the eye of the bitt to expand and loosen the handle. DO NOT STRIKE THE POLL/BUTT OF AN AXE WITH A SLEDGE. USE A HARDENED WEDGE INSTEAD...CHEAP.
I heard you shouldn’t use metal on metal! You will end up ruining your axe head if you do that over time from what I have heard, I think skillcult showed examples of it in a video he did
So you match a 5lb and 5.5lb axes against a 3.5lb axe...lol. Put a wood handle on that 3.5lb axe so when it gets sunk, its easier to pull out. They also sell a 4.5lb with a wood handle that will run much closer to the Firemans axe in performance for $30. But I actually prefer a 3.5lb with a wooden handle, because for all the smaller pieces its lighter and less tiring than throwing around a wannabe 6lb maul that all those Fisker's and other pyramid shaped spliters.
Honestly, I had fast-forward the vid just to see the fireman axe in action. Great review.

That fireman axe 🪓 that you have is worth a lot of money and it will cut through steel, keep it do not get rid of it
I have a Mann Lewistown ,PA is it worth anything going to ask $65
@@Manuel3525m it’s worth $165
the spike on the back of the fire axe can even be more useful than the edge of it.
I sharpened mine and I use it as a Pick-A-Roon for logs 🤝
Awesome video! Keep it up!!👍

True, but it's also $20 from HF... about all it's good for.

a wooden hammer will be less damaging 2 the axe
Clear wood and 12 in long could split with a hatchet split white oak or knotty pine
