And honestly it’s sad to think that him and her were so close and she had to live the rest of her life with knowing her high school boyfriend was the real killer all along. Rewatching the original last night I actually heard this song and I thought wow this is a beautiful cover and with that in mind I already knew Billy was the killer and I just felt a little depressed knowing how the movie was going to go :’(
I know exactly how Billy and Stu pulled it off. Billy makes the calls with Stu's cell phone so that the police get thrown off when they check Billy's account. Stu does the slashing with the Ghost face costume. Especially when Stu slashed Billy in front of Sidney while he was wearing the Ghostface costume to throw her off. As well as all of us watching in the audience.
Gus Black's cover of this song is the best thing to come out of the scream series.... just my opinion. I love this version, never get tired of it listening to the grooves on his fingers sliding down the frets and grooves of the strings of the guitar, gives me chills. And of course his hauntingly beautiful voice!!! This song is timeless!
I think what made Scream special was the deep amount of heartbreak from both Sydney and Billy, you get a sense that these are truly kids, they are still struggling with so many emotions with their parents and not always making the best choice to cope. I think both characters show so much emotion, erratic emotion, and it just adds a lot of layers to the reveal at the end. The audience really does not want it to be Billy, this is a 2+ year commitment between Sydney and Billy - and that ending really uproots their history - making it not only a killer reveal, but a massive betrayal for Sydney - especially seeing as she loses her virginity to Billy right before. When you really try to imagine the emotions and everything Syd must feel, it makes Scream something truly terrifying and it could've really doubled down on that dramatic depth - like its terrifying opening scene with Drew's murder - unfortunately, the series backed off of that dramatic complex tension in the latter movies, opting for over the top slasher simplicity and some comedy. Love them either way but could have really driven things home.
Lol this is not better than the original at all, it's brilliant though in how its been transformed into a slower song, the artist has gone and made it their own so to speak which is really rare and hard to do successfully. Great song for a great film.
I watched Scream for the thousandth time on October 30th, 2021, and for the first time ever I noticed that this was a cover of Don't Fear the Reaper playing during the scene where Billy sneaks into Sidney's room. You notice something new every time.
@@111highgh billy goes: "and i thought of you" and then Syd's facial expression of being taken aback, surprised, if not a little shocked. Syd: "you did?" i LOVE that moment - funny, and creepy too. there were a LOT of brilliant moments in that movie.
The very first time i heard this song, it was in the original Scream movie (1996) - probably the best slasher movie ever made - by the late Wes Craven. This version sounded too good to be just a reinterpretation (cover). Just a piece of art by Gus Black! One of the very rare cases where the cover is indeed superior to the orignal.
Fear the reaper creeps on just moments after you witness the best opening scene to a horror movie. This tune plays in the background as you are first introduced to your final girl and Wes Craven let’s you ponder on what you just seen. You can’t help but still think about the opening scene. Classic and brilliant directing.
The Original , this one (+) tied withThe Muttonbirds Version is Gangsterrrrrr . It’s done on a Telecaster / Fender and has wangy sound. Search for it, was on the Frighteners Soundtrack RIP MJF. Love this song

We all knew deep down that he is the killer. But we just did not want to accept it. And that is what makes this movie special

No
@@tarmanslasher92 It actually described him but nobody caught on
//I feel like the original is more about acceptance and having no fear about an inevitable death. This one is haunting and well, Billy is warped.
I’m a huge BOC fan, but I agree. There’s something special about this version.
the original is superior but this is the best cover of a song i have heard
no, this is better.
@@k3nzngtn Agreed. It is very rare that a cover is superior to the original. A very special version by Gus Black. He got it right.

I wish I could find this on Apple Music... such a gem
its there
I don't remember how young I was when I first saw this movie but I'm pretty sure Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis messed up my taste in men forever.
Maybe playing the good farmer in Hallmark's The Magic of Ordinary Days was his apology.
So grim, so beautiful. This is my favourite version.❤
Beautiful song
