What a fucking privilege man... I just hope you realize how lucky you were to get seats like this at that performance! Side note, I have been a fan or Rent since the original Broadway cast, and have a reputation for lashing out violently at performances of RENT with a totally new cast. So there have only been 2 exceptions to my rule during the 30 or so times I saw RENT on Broadway/off Broadway/ or touring. The first was Adam Kantor as Mark and Will Chase as Rodger in their last month of performing the roles of Mark and Rodger before RENT went off Broadway. You can watch their entire performance by just searching "RENT filmed live on Broadway." The second one was this performance of Seasons of Love. Like I said, I usually fucking hate it when changes are made to musicals like this, but even I have to give credit where credit is due. I know this song is supposed to be sung by the entire cast from the beginning to the end, right after the intermission. I always refer to this number as the Calm before the Storm, because its the last piece of music in the entire show that is filled with optimism and ambition... Less than a minute later (Happy New Years A) Maureen is already regressing to her old drinking habits while continuing to isolate Joanne from herself, and everyone realizes they are locked out of their "home" as Angel continues to rapidly deteriorate. The next major song in the lineup is Take me or Leave me where Maureen and Joanne realize it's not going to work, and less than 10 minutes later, you get fucking blindsided by Angel's death during "Without You." From that point on, every single song goes from being a celebration of life to a brutal reality check for all the main characters. I remember my parents wouldn't let me go see this musical for any reason until they found out that it was about to go off Broadway for good. They were (I'm not lying) so worried that I would be mentally traumatized by a gay and lesbian relationship, they refused to talk about it and constantly went into my room and took CD's that I had secretly burned the music onto.
Flash forward a year or so later and I was sitting with them and watching one of the last performances on Broadway, and I remember seeing Angel/Tom, and Maureen/Joanne's scenes for the first time where they establish they both are homosexual. I will never forget the absolute rage that built up inside me during that moment where I realized my parents had prevented me from seeing RENT for years because there were gay couples. I even remember my parents looking at me with horrified expressions during Angel's vocal riffs during the song "Contact," like they thought I would spontaneously combust. They were terrified I was going to be fucked up from being exposed to gay relationships, but I was so devastated from Angel's deterioration and death that I couldn't even argue with them. I just remember that it was like watching a close friend die, and I don't think any of my parents are ever going to understand that. They were so worried about me realizing Angel was gay, that they didn't even acknowledge the fact that I was literally having an emotional breakdown by the time the "I'll cover you reprise" started. What a fucking waste man. I would give anything to go back to 1996 an check out some of the cast from past performances

For me I don't think I can measure my 525,600 minutes in Midnight's and cups of coffee I measure them in 3 a.m. all my gaming marathons in cans of energy drinks that I shouldn't be having and God knows how many bus trips moment of laughter moment of chaos those days were I'm so exhausted at the end of the day. I can barely get it all couch to get to bed but at the end I am so happy and fulfilled I am so grateful to have the people in my life that have those 525,600 minutes. Sometimes while I may forget that each minute count I'm so grateful for all of them

They perform it on Saturday and Sunday. Most of what's aired is from Saturday, but for people who attends the Sunday taping, they come out and perform most of the songs.
