Here it is two years later and I am back with you and your hats . Since I have had several concussions I always have to rewatch your video. But I am still so very grateful for you and your kindness. Thank you so very much. Hugs from Va.
I ordered fleece fabric by mistake, and instead of returning it, I found your tutorial of this super easy fleece cap. This was my first time sewing fleece, your instructions were great! Thanx so much!
I'm new to sewing/quilting. Watched many, many tutes on fleece hats. I like you incorporated your own twist. Also that you added the different sizes. I am making a lot of these for military families. Again, THANKS !!!
I know someone asked for an easy glove pattern, but I would also love an easy fingerless fleece glove tutorial, if you can pull one out of your “magic hat”, lol! Have a great day Liz!
Hi Liz! I made one!! Yay! My grand daughter got upset that her long ponytail was inside the hat, so I did one with elastic, no fringe-this way she could stick her pony tail or messy bun through the hole at the top. Just another idea.
Liz you are so sweet, your tutorial is so nice. I am now on my second one for my grands, but had to watch your video few times. Thanks for that.Have some more of this
I loved your tutorial -- I just made one for my grandson for Super Bowl Sunday -- I found some Patriots fleece there for $1.99 about a half a yard so I have - so I just finished the hat and I have enough left to make a scarf to match. Thank you so much --- you tutorial is so good and very easy to follow.
+Jenny Hurt That's awesome Jenny...just remember that when you cut your scarf, you want the longest edges to be opposite the stretch. If you cut it WITH the stretch, the sides of the scarf will curl in. Thanks so much for watching.
Liz, I have made 6 fleece hats from various videos and this one is by far the best that I have come across. I am a fairly new sewer and at age 75, I look for the easiest and best videos I can find. The fact that you explain in "very good detail" what stitches and stitch length to use is important to someone who is not experienced and not very many videos do that. I'm looking forward to making a few of these hats. Thank you for teaching an old dog new tricks 👍🥰
Thank you so much for this easy video, I have made over 20 hats, for friends and donations. I purchased a waking foot it works great with the fleece fabric.
This video is amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to show every step. Just as an added bonus before you tie the fringe together you can put in ice gel packs and then tie it up with something that can be untied later on.
I really, really loved your tutorial. I have been looking for a hat pattern like that for a while now. Glad I found yours. Thank you for sharing. Now I can`t wait to get started.
Here's something I learned decades ago when 'most people only had straight and zigzag stitches on their machines; You can use a slight (narrow) zigzag stitch and it will work as a stretch stitch. Of course it's not as good as the stretch stitches you get these days but it will work. I really enjoyed watching your video and I'm glad there are still people out there sewing. I'm 63 on my next birthday so I grew up sewing...I hope there are some young people out there still interested in sewing their own clothes or accessories! Thanks Liz, love your site.
Your hat tutorial is the best! I am using up all the leftover "team fleece" for cute hats. Just remember to have the logos facing in opposite directions for that first seam along the long side so that words on the band face the right direction when flipped up. Thank you!
Hi Liz- Christmas finally arrived and I ended up making 22 of your hats. Everybody just loved them-they are nice and warm and pretty to boot. Plus, depending on the fleece you could turn them into guys or gals. I was hoping you had a new project for 2017 as you really are a wonderful teacher and so very kind to share. Handmade gifts really are the best. Love from Va. Linda
Your tutorial is fabulous and so easy to follow. I made one hat and it came out awesome! I plan to make more in different sizes. Thank you for your tip for identifying the right side of solid color fleece. I would love to see you come up with a tutorial for making some simple mittens. I would love to be able to make some hat and mitten sets. Thank you again for a great tutorial ... very well done!
Thank you. I’m not much of a sewer but, I had to figure it out this year. I made your hat and it’s a welcome relief over endless face masks. Really easy, cute project. Thanks again!!!
Great video, had my granddaughter and grand son pick out fleece and watch your video. Then they both sewed their own with assistance. She is 5 and he is almost 7. They loved it.
+Judy Howell Thank you Judy for watching. These are great hats and if you have a serger, goes even quicker. I have since used a walking foot which helps too.
Thank you so much for your video! I'm such a klutz when it comes to sewing and I actually, no really! actually made this hat! LOVE IT! Thanks! And although I didn't use the paper or rolling cutter, I still managed to complete it without tears, hair ripped out and my kiddo even said, 'Nice job Mom - looks like something someone would pay for!" (believe me, there's been a few botched sewing jobs around here so this little 'miracle' of my hat is sending everyone for a loop. Could not have done this without your help :)
I gathered for pompon and used a rubber band to hold while I adjusted to make gathering even. After the strip was tried, it was easy to cut the rubber band off.
Liz, thank you SO much for posting this!! You're an amazing teacher, & I love the way you pay attention to detail. I'm just getting back into sewing, & have forgotten so much. All the seemingly small things you pointed out were extremely helpful, & definitely prevented some seam ripping on my part. Just finished your hat yesterday in my favorite team logo, & it looks great! Alice/The Great PNW
Liz thanks for making fleece hat sooooo easy I can't wait to start making them I subscribe to learn more easy projects from you Thanks for sharing your video.
Great tutorial thank you so very much! I've got a bunch of Grinch hats that I'm making for Christmas! One little tip for you dot-dot. I actually used upholstery thread and did a hand baste Stitch along the bottom of the Fringe line.... then a simple Pull & everything tightened up into a nice even gather. For me it was worth the extra time for it to look balanced.. my hand pleating skills were not that good!😉
I just want to thank u....i made 12 beautiful hats for the homeless and it was thanks to this video. I posted them on my sewing group and they just loved them. Wish i could send u a pic, but nevertheless....thank u again
Derrick Stinoski That is so wonderfully kind and giving of you. Thank you so much for telling me that. I would love for you to post some pics and tell your story on my Facebook page. facebook.com/makingiteasywithliz
Derrick Stinoski That is so wonderfully kind and giving of you. Thank you so much for telling me that. I would love for you to post some pics and tell your story on my Facebook page. facebook.com/makingiteasywithliz.
Love It! I'm going to make 4 for my son's family in North Carolina for Christmas. My son, his wife, their 4 yr old and their newborn! I'm very excited - thank you so much for your excellent tutorial! :-)
Thank you Rita. No, I don't have a video for a scarf, but they are super easy. Just make sure the "stretch" side is at the short ends of the scarf and not along the long sides. This keeps the scarf from curling. Cut it as wide as you want, cut fringe at the ends. I will try to do a quick video on it.
Liz, I Love your video and appreciate you taking the time to do it and share what you had learned.. You did an EXCELLENT job! Keep up the good work. I love to make things that are Useful! I Love this hat and yes, it looks cute as a button on you.
I've liked a few other tutorials, but this is by far the best. I really many it. So neat and easy. And you are so pleasant and fun to watch. I'm making lots of these for Christmas gifts. Thanks so much. I'm going to check out more of your tutorials.
You had me at "do-hicky." This is a great hat and I really liked the sewing part. I had a little trouble at the beginning when everything was written out but I caught on pretty quickly. My nieces will love these.
I LOVE your hat! I am so happy that you posted this. You look adorable in hats by the way. hehe You give so many good tips too. I am VERY new to sewing and any helpful tips are welcome. I just got my sewing machine for Christmas. I think I will need to get a few things to make the hat for myself. :) The rotary knife is AWESOMENESS. I do not have one of those. You always do such a wonderful job on your videos. Thank you for sharing. Huge hugs!!
EasyMeWorld Thank you so much my wonderful friend. I am a craft sewer and do a decent job. Sewing class in Jr High and High School and a few quilting classes. I have no interest in making clothes except for the dog LOL. As for my videos, I thank YOU for your kindness and taking the time to answer my many questions. Big ol' hug right back at ya!
Thank you very much for this! It was super easy to follow and was very well explained. Using this video, I was able to make a chemo cap for my mom, who swears it the most comfortable hat by far. I will be making many more this weekend. Thank you VERY much!
+Mary Enos Hi Mary, I'm glad you brought this up because I notice I made an error in Step #1...add 1" to your measurement. As for the short sides, you are in the right direction. Now you add your fringe length, (example 3") to the 8" and 3"(2.5"+1/2" seam) for turning up the bottom over your ears...this gives you a total of 14" and that is your short side of the the pattern. 14" includes everything you need to make your hat. You can trim your fringe after if you want it shorter. For larger sizes add 1/2-1" for both measurements. I hope this helps.
Hi Liz,,,I made the hat today, I wish I could send you a picture of it, its for my mom, I think it turned out really nice lol,,,,,Thankyou for the instructions
I’m so excited to try making this hat. I currently make dresses for little girls in Africa but I’ve been looking for something to make for a more local mission!
Nice! When picking the zig zag stitch near the beginning it would have been nice if you you showed the 'stretch stitch' it looks really tiny width, a close up would have been nicer, also when you show the fancy stretch stitch at the end, a very close up would have been great. BUT WOW! You did make it simple, great choices for your demonstration video. THANK YOU! I can't wait to see more videos from you... I am partially deaf and some people mumble... YOU ARE GREAT... easy to follow and you cut out the long boring stuff!
Thank you for watching and your kind comment. In my new videos I include text, which I appreciate because I watch in bed with the sound off sometimes...it made me more aware of hearing impaired viewers.
Here it is two years later and I am back with you and your hats . Since I have had several concussions I always have to rewatch your video. But I am still so very grateful for you and your kindness. Thank you so very much. Hugs from Va.
Made about 50 for disaster in Maine and cancer patients and I enjoy the smiles . Thanks Brenda
That's a wonderful effort ❤
Last fall I made 65 of these to donate to the VA. Your pattern made that possible. Doing this again this year. Than you for your pattern.
That is a wonderful thing that you do. I'm so happy I could help.
Excellent directions! Perfect voice, easy to understand and follow, and the directions were perfect! Thank you!!
I saw this tutorial several years ago. Love your hint about marking the scissor blade for the fringe length!
Thank you for watching Cynthia. That's a wonderful thing you are doing...good job.
Thank you for a great tutorial..you explained every step which made it easy to follow
Thank you ❤️
I know someone asked for an easy glove pattern, but I would also love an easy fingerless fleece glove tutorial, if you can pull one out of your “magic hat”, lol! Have a great day Liz!
love your fleece fabric hats.thank you for sharing. I am going to sew for Christmas gifts.
Hi Liz! I made one!! Yay! My grand daughter got upset that her long ponytail was inside the hat, so I did one with elastic, no fringe-this way she could stick her pony tail or messy bun through the hole at the top. Just another idea.
Great idea!
Janace White did u use the same measurements for the ponytail hat ? Ty
Thank you Ronnie ❤
This hat is SO adorable. I'm going to make this with a matching blanket for my grandson to keep warm in the car. So adorable. Thank you.
That will be a wonderful gift. Thank you for watching.
I made my first hat and scarf tonight using the hat tutorial here. Turned out so cute. Thanks so much. Super easy fleece hat!
+Jenny Hurt That's awesome Jenny...just remember that when you cut your scarf, you want the longest edges to be opposite the stretch. If you cut it WITH the stretch, the sides of the scarf will curl in. Thanks so much for watching.
Liz, I made one of these a few years ago, and looked up your video to make 4 more for January 2023!! Thank you so much for your excellent video!
You look good in that hat! You are very thorough in your instructions! Thanks!
Thank you ❤️

Thank you so much, Patricia. I teach like I like to be taught and always have a beginner in mind.
Thank you so much for this easy video, I have made over 20 hats, for friends and donations. I purchased a waking foot it works great with the fleece fabric.
Very nice hat. Looks so warm. And it was easy to do. Thanks for sharing. Great video. Great instructions.
Thank you Patricia ❤
This is probably the best tutorial for fleece hats that I have seen. Thank you.
This video is amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to show every step. Just as an added bonus before you tie the fringe together you can put in ice gel packs and then tie it up with something that can be untied later on.
i think that if you run basting hand stitches right under the fringe, you can make even gathers before you tie the pom pom.
I really, really loved your tutorial. I have been looking for a hat pattern like that for a while now. Glad I found yours. Thank you for sharing. Now I can`t wait to get started.

Very cute and super fast and easy. I'm making some for my grandchildren this Christmas. Good tip about marking the scissors to cut the fringe!
Your hat tutorial is the best! I am using up all the leftover "team fleece" for cute hats. Just remember to have the logos facing in opposite directions for that first seam along the long side so that words on the band face the right direction when flipped up. Thank you!
Love the tip about wrong side of fabric.
Very nice tut! I'm going to make a few of these for family. You are a good instructor!
Rose Broadway Thank you so much Rose
Hi Liz- Christmas finally arrived and I ended up making 22 of your hats. Everybody just loved them-they are nice and warm and pretty to boot. Your tutorial is fabulous and so easy to follow. I made one hat and it came out awesome! I plan to make more in different sizes. Thank you for your tip for identifying the right side of solid color fleece. I would love to see you come up with a tutorial for making some simple mittens. bbmoozer123 I so appreciate your support and so happy you like my video.
Could you please give both measurements for a hat for a 6 month old, a year & 2 years! Thanks
Look in the description...I believe I cover those measurements. I personally don't have any idea, as child ages don't dictate set head measurements.
i have made two hats so far following your tutorial thsnk you so much!
I gathered for pompon and used a rubber band to hold while I adjusted to make gathering even. After the strip was tried, it was easy to cut the rubber band off.
I too started doing that, after I made the video. I'm always looking for a way to get things done quicker and easier. Thanks for sharing that tip.
I have made two hats so far following your tutorial thank you so much! your the best
Number one you look great in the hat, two I made one and turned out great. Thanks can’t wait to make more.

UPDATE...I am now using a walking foot which works out great, especially for the top stitching around the bottom edge.
Is it because the fleece is a 2-way stretch that you use a straight stitch on the shorter seam?
kjkoehn I actually use a stretch straight stitch but yes, a straight stitch with a 3 or 3.5 length would work on the non stretch seam.
Liz thanks for making fleece hat sooooo easy I can't wait to start making them I subscribe to learn more easy projects from you Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank you Gail. They really are easy and addicting.
Fantastic! 😃 thanks for sharing. I am going to make for charity this winter.

Love your toque tutorial. I made two today. Thanks Liz!
I’m glad I ran into your tutorial it was very very helpful and easy I an explanatory. Do you happen to have one for a scarf with fringe.
Thank you Rita. No, I don't have a video for a scarf, but they are super easy. Just make sure the "stretch" side is at the short ends of the scarf and not along the long sides. Awesome !!! Just the hat pattern im looking for...
Thank you !
Glad you like it!
Harphoney I'm so glad you got it. I'm very behind in my response and sorry I didn't help you with your previous question. Happy everything worked out.

+Margaret Hill Thank you Margaret for watching and taking the time to comment.
Buenas noches! mil gracias por la explicación, excelente. Bendiciones
I’m so excited to try making this hat. I currently make dresses for little girls in Africa but I’ve been looking for something to make for a more local mission!
Hi my name is sarah and was wondering if those fleece fabrics where half yard pieces and what is the guide thing you have for your seem allowance??
They are just pieces that were larger than what I needed to cut. The seam gauge is a common notion at fabric stores.
Can you tie the Pom Pom end like the blankets first before gathering and tying off the end? Any thoughts
Hi Pamela
Actually, I have never made a fleece blanket before...I say go for it. Try making a mock up. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely love your video you explain everything so good thank you
Excellent video Liz! Thank you!
I have noticed that "Life thing" gets in the way. I hope you have a Happy New Year and do post some new videos!
Can’t wait to make this hat! And I beg to differ; you look so nice in your hat!
Thank you so much, have fun as they are addicting.
Very good tutorial.....really enjoyed it....thanks so much!
Thank you so much. This was theeee best fleece hat tutorial that I've come across.
AJ JOHNSON Excellent! Thank you AJ for watching.
