One thing I liked about the Eagles during this era was that defense. They may not have won lots of games in the White Helmet era, but the pugnaciousness of that defense was noticeble. There are often two or three, in on a tackle.
That was a really rough start to the schedule. Five consecutive games against playoff teams from 1970. Three of those teams played in their respective championship games, with the Cowboys going to the Super Bowl. They had a rough go of it.
The Philadelphia Eagles dismissed their head coach after the loss to the San Francisco 49ers. They lost the first game against the Cincinnati Bengals and the home opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
The 1971 Philadelphia Eagles went 6-7-1. Coach Jerry Williams was dismissed after the loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Ed Khyhat came in and finished with a 6-4-1 record. First season at the Vet and John Facenda narrated this highlight real. Pro Football Hall of Fame members. San Francisco 49ers: Dave Wilcox and Jimmy Johnson Philadelphia Eagles: Harold Carmichael.
Pete Liske started out with the Jets who drafted him in 1964, he then went to the CFL for 4 years before coming back to the NFL in 1969 with the Broncos and Eagles. Sadly he passed in February of 2022 at 79.
In 1971-1972 season Eagles won 3 more games than they did season prior (1970-1971) when they went 3-10-1. In 1971-1972 season they went 6-7-1, 3-game improvement in wins over season prior (1970-1971) when, again they went 3-10-1
In each, club's first 5 reg. season games to open 1971-1972 reg. season games, Eagles were beaten by teams that went to playoffs just season prior (1970-1971)
Part of he problem for the early 70s Eagles was that they were paying for the sins of the late 60s Eagles, i.e. many years of craptacular drafts, due to them giving many of their picks away. You think Howie Roseman is a doofus...
From 1967-77, the Philadelphia Eagles had some rotten teams in that era. They were paying for the mistakes of Joe Kuharich-Jerry Wolman regime in the Quaker City. They, Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Buffalo were vying for the worst record in 1968, to draft O.J. Simpson of USC. Buffalo got Simpson in the 1969 college deaft; Philadelphia had to settle for Leroy Keyes, who was bust as a running back as a rookie.
Ryan Anderson - I dig em too! That’s actually how they probably should’ve always been considering the bald eagle is named so because of the white feathers on their heads. 🤔👍🏼
@@mikevanriel7573 Mike, I hear you, but one could also make that argument for quite a fe other teams and eras as well. :-) I gotta admit, it's a very retro look, and looks pretty snappy.
Man I love these Eagle uniforms and helmets. Sometimes simplicity looks cool.
They worse those from 1969-1970 thru 1973-1974 seasons
First Eagles highlight film narrated by John Facenda.
A native of Philadelphia. A broadcasting legend that covers the Delaware River valley.
The first season at the vet AKA Veterans stadium. Harold Carmichael rookie season. Originally he played basketball in college.

All of the home games they wore their white uniforms.
They also wore white for all of their home games in 1973.

I started going to games in 88 and that place was already a dump- only 17 years later. But it was awesome. 🤟🏼
The stadiums of the '70s did not last very long.
Harold Jackson, Ben Hawkins, Tom Woodeshick.
White helmet days were brutal.
In each, club's first 5 reg. season games to open 1971-1972 reg. season games, Eagles were beaten by teams that went to playoffs just season prior (1970-1971)
NFL goal posts used to be at the goalie like the CFL until they changed it in 1978 to the back of end zone .
Man my pops still talk bout how mad we were then😂😂😂
The brusied purple would be a great band name
Pete Liske was a gifted player - I'm surprised that, despite his natural ability, his NFL career bit the dust. Any explanations on why this happens?
Played on really Lousy Teams. Liske was a Good QB that has bad breaks in his career.
Nobody could make your shitty team look like gold than John Facenda.
7:40 is that what Fatboy slim sampled for “praise you”?

@@armorybrunotjr.3204Atlanta did get a great pick in Claude Humphrey
I'm curious:
John Facenda narrated the Eagles and Phillies, but not the 76ers or Flyers.
R Harold Carmichael would launch 13-season tenure w/Eagles (1971-1972 thru 1983-1984)
steve Sabol could make any crappy team look like champions.
No. 10 for the Raiders was Eldridge Dickey. The first black quarterback drafted in the first round.
He was trash
"Veteran's Stadium the glistening new home." What a joke. The place was a dump right from the get go.
Giants should have kept Tarkenton.
Eagles should have kept Harold Jackson.
Cardinals should have kept MacArthur Lane.
Can we bring back the white helmets
Ryan Anderson - I dig em too! That’s actually how they probably should’ve always been considering the bald eagle is named so because of the white feathers on their heads. 🤔👍🏼
I don’t think they will bring back the white helmets. They did not represent a great era in Eagles history.

No the 5 seasons they had them ( 1969-1973) were seasons of losing
These teams were awful... but hearing John Facenda narrate it makes it a little easier to take

‘ glistening’ an adjective never uttered a second time about the vet. Vividly remember the rats in line on dollar dog days.
Tying Washington 7-7.
First
Those white uniforms make them look like milkmen
