I've been building up leg strength over the past couple years by sliding in deep gravel at public playgrounds and on the sand at volleyball courts. Recently, I have had access to a red clay court. At 62, I'm slowly applying sliding on the clay, although it's pretty tricky. Thanks for the lesson.
Markmap- You are an inspiration to me at 67. My body is super toned after recovery from foot/Achilles soreness and losing 20 kgs in the last 15 months. It might just be time for me to emulate your efforts.
I taught myself to slide on hard courts over the course of about 6 months. I was not making much progress until I saw a video on a slide drill (tenfitmen) and started to do that, then progressed from there. If I had this video when I started I would have saved a lot of time. The points you make in this video are excellent and exactly what I had to figure out on my own. Amazing video and absolutely unique, I haven't been able to find a video like this after extensive searching. Will be recommending this video to people who ask me about sliding.
I appreciated this video, as a whole, but particularly appreciated the beginning - using logic and humor to explain why some players should NOT slide. Actually, my comment about your use of logic and humor applies to all your videos, and is why I'm a subscriber who is always excited when you post a new vid. Thank you!
I think I just found the best tennis channel on TH-cam. Much love and respect to you guys. Such great tips. Thank you! Where is that court with the mountains in the background? It's so beautiful! And where are you guys based? Would honestly travel to hit with you. (I won the USPTA Elevate Award for Tennis Coaching in Florida in 2021,) but that is a court worth traveling to! Also, to help anyone in the comments: I had clay court sliding down to perfection, but never knew to lead with the heel which is necessary on hard court. If you're learning, try to master clay first, it's easier on the joints. Follow everything in this video. Keep good posture as you go for a slide AND keep a good amount of weight, at least 30% on your back foot. Think of it as an anchor foot. If all your weight is on your front foot, you will stick. The back foot can roll in or do anything that's comfortable to you, just don't lift or abandon it. The back knee is usually lower to the ground on slides too. You'll see that with these great athletes. That's why holding a lunge for 3 seconds is a great progression to learn to slide. Just don't cheat and let your back knee hit the ground, build the strength. An anchor foot and not letting your upper body tip or go forward over your front foot will help you slide and not stick. You all will be sliding in no time!)
Background of tennis court in Adelboden is sick...But the video is also great ! Can't waith to see forth comming fitness clips...Please ad some specific streching to it. BR, Sergio
I have played on clay and I do slide there. But I never slide as wide as Joker. He is so wide that topples over a lot. It looks comical. To me, the recovery time dictates when and where I slide. If I can't recover to play my next shot in time, I will not slide. However, sometimes you have no choice but to slide even a little. And I really don't know if you can coach sliding. Like you said, it's instinctual. It's a little like sliding in football, there are some quarterbacks who have a tough time sliding and no amount of coaching helps them. And then there are some quarterbacks that do it naturally.
Your disclaimer is great, interested on your thoughts on different hard court surfaces. They are definitely not all equal, it looks like you’re playing on acrylic based court like the pros. In the UK there are a lot of Macadam/painted courts. They are a whole different sliding experience and I’d say quite dangerous to attempt sliding. Far more tacky. I keep my sliding to very occasionally and ungracefully on artificial clay…
Great observation, James! We've played on indoor acrylic courts that gave us too much grip to slide... While ther hard courts were more "slide-prone" than some clay courts 😂 Ultimately I do think that sliding is a result of how little frictional force there is with your shoe and the court, along with the momentum you have going into your shot.
you can slide with any shoes? i feel like my shoe is stiff and i feel a lot of friction every time i tried it, so i dont know if it is my technique or my shoe
Thanks Mika! We were demoing Tecnifibre at the time but decided against it. We'll make videos walking through our racquet selection process soon. Cheers! - Daytri
I would have expected some words about shoes. Just received a new pair for the upcoming outdoor season from Jeff, as no shop around sells tennis shoes. The Asics Gel Challenger 14 I bought are even less flexible than the old model I had, the sole is almost hard and stiff, I hardly can bend it by hand. Is this normal?

Glad to help! I hope you are able to get the feeling for sliding properly in no time with this video. Good luck and train safely!
How flexible are you? I can barely slide at all despite trying many times.
Great insights on sliding! 👍 I’ve always thought that sliding (on hard courts) was super dangerous, but has become a necessity at the highest levels.
Thanks! It definitely has - especially as the game has sped up and become more physical.
@@RacquetFlex I use the mogul step for dealing with the wide balls. I was told to sweep out the leg..

That tweener passing shot was insane 😲!
I play on hardcourts and I naturally started sliding (as noticed by my coach), this really helped me, thank you
12:55 View. Cherry on top. Great video 😎
Quality job as usual guys, bravo!
Would love to see injury prevention series! Struggling with my wrist health =(
We will absolutely make a series on the most common injuries and how to prevent them.
This channel deserves 1M subscribers, and i am one of them(subscriber). Great tips.
Great video and amazing humour as always! Really looking forward to the tennis fitness routine!
Hey, could you do a video about those footwork you mentioned federer and Murray doing
Yes I want tennis fitness videos and tennis conditioning videos.
Beautiful tip
Thanks man
This video deserves more likes

Thank for the informative video. The video quality is amazing what camera/lens do you use ?
Needed this, I’m going to go out and practice
Good luck and train safely! Start out slow 👌

@@RacquetFlex Thanks for your reply, I totally agree. Love your content, you fill a great point in TH-cam Tennis content, intermediate+ and beyond!
the lovely mounrains in background..which place ?

1:19 i dont agree to that because it depends on the surface
On clay you can slide without getting any type of injury
Zverev vs nadal injury on clay from sliding
Thank you for a great lesson! Impressive performance. What is the name of the place with clay court and mountains?
Is your clay court footage from Switzerland or Austria?
It's Switzerland 👍 Quite beautiful courts and it was so surreal when we were playing.
@@RacquetFlex you lucky dawg! I was in Murren years ago but couldn't play. All the courts there had snow capped mountains as the backdrop.
Those forehand winners were bangers
Where is this court??!
I know how to slide on hard court but why would you slide over the mogul step, like what is the benefits/pros and cons to them?
0:17 I would do all kinds of questionable things just to be able to play few sets on that clay court and that view MY GOD
man where's that amazing court at

@@RacquetFlex can’t wait , thanks
WHERE IS THE COURT IN THE BEGINNING LOCARED?
It doesnt tear the shoes?
Sliding looks so cool but as a fairly new player and in my fifties, alas, I won't be trying to learn this.😢
hit the like before I even watch xD
Thanks so much!
Nice
Please 🙏🏽 make!

Honestly, I watch your videos for the mountain background then for tennis 😁.
Where's that anyway ?
Thanks for watching! We were training on some beautiful clay courts in Adelboden, Switzerland.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If i on court
Honestly thought it was because people had old tennis shoes with no grip LOL
just a clarification F1 cars aren't supposed to slide around the track. A better analogy would be rally cars.
That's a great point, haha. We should have used Tokyo Drifting as a better analogy.
Why is this recorded in Switzerland?
Ouch. Just ouch. Hurts me to watch. Y'all make it look good, though!
Hey daytree (oops 😅). Do you wanna hit sometime? It’s David from memorial park, text me if you’re down!
I’m scared of even trying
Where’s the kick serve
MAKE SURE YOU WEAR ACTUAL TENNIS SHOES!
We know how to slide on clay bro, show me hard
