It's amazing how much German and Swedish has in common, almost every line has words that is close enough for me to understand.
For example utlänning - Ausländer and mitt språk är internationellt - meine sprache international.
But of course the secondary meaning get lost but it's obvious by the movie.

I'm trying to learn Swedish right now and I'm also surprised at the similarities. a number of similar or even identical words. the sentence structure is almost identical! I'm just getting desperate with some sounds... well, I'm just about able to do "sju", with others... 😅

7:45 I agree it's more about colonialism, and that Rammstein has a certain way of making a point. They called out my country, the USA, hard in their satire and sarcasm with their song Amerika, and TBH, I can't even be mad at it lol.

I think a translation that is hard at least to get fully was the "Ich bin kein Mann für eine Nacht". You kinda got it right, but to have the full meaning (and joke) i'd translate it with "I'm not (just) a one-night stand - i'll stay 1-2 hours at most."

The making of "Ausländer" is also a very good take. They're explaining what they felt while making the song and are going on about the pictures and scenes.
@Bisscute if you're interested listening to German musicians I can recommend "Alligatoah" he is a really really good musician and artist. Another one would be "Saltatio Mortis" they're more or less an entry band to metal music in Germany.
Hope you have a good time 😇

For sure it has multiple layers of meanings, e.g. everone is an "Ausländer" when he goes into another country, so we are all foreigners, or the other way round, there are no foreigners. At another level it is surely about s*x-tourism and the typical cliché of older male germans visiting Thailand and countries for this kind of holiday, of course leaving a special impression behind. At the end, one of them is carrying ivory away, which also has a clear meaning etc etc.

For me the song was a criticism of german colonialism ( but also the act of colonizing itself no matter who does it ). You go to a different place. force your language and culture upon them, exploit their land and people for your own gain, and once youre stop having fun or the economical gain decreases, you leave without looking back, without care for the consequences of your actions.

  • @michaelmiller6924
    @michaelmiller6924 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Making a satire out of it is the only way to deal with racism.
it was the motif of the refugee boat that framed the music video. Because it starts with Rammstein arriving on an island in a rubber dinghy and it ends with all the band members leaving the island on the rubber dinghy, with the exception of Flake, who is first forgotten and then held back.
Which is a lot of cliché, fits damn well with the lyrics of the song and the associated meta level. Because: On a lyrical level, the song is clear. It's about globality instead of nationality. About the German cosmopolitan traveling abroad. About the German globetrotter as an enemy. About someone who wants to impress the ladies in foreign countries with pseudo-worldly gibberish.
This is exactly what they wanted to emphasize by using authentic materials on both sides, as explained further in the making-of video. For example, Flake's (historical) silk suit still said "Deutsch-Südwest-Afrika", a German colony in what is now Namibia.
Arriving on the island, the white colonialists give Rammstein to a tribe of black natives. And they don't leave out any clichés.
    germany colonies in africa
The German colonial empire included parts of today's People's Republic of China, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Namibia, Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, and several islands in the western Pacific and Micronesia.

In my opinion they also play with some Jewish stereotypes in their lyrics. They say stuff like "I am at home everywhere" or "my language is international" and some more. These kinds of stereotypes have been pushed during nazi era movies and other mediums. Just wanted to mention it cause I felt few people are actually mentioning it. And yeah, it's basically yet another "layer" to the video/song.

For me this is a song against s3xual tourism, can't see how could be differrent. The way he says the lines in foreign languages pass a clear passive-agressiveness on the way it's sang while talking about a suppossed love, fl1ngs h0okups and such. Children singing in chorus later in the song reinforce this theory, since they're a common victim on the darkest form of that practice. Of course, when the people who are engaged on this are all major age and participating just because they want to then is not a big deal, but when it comes to kids and marginalized people surely is.
