      @@penzorphallos3199 Its not just ERA, but modern NERA (Chobham etc.) generally eats HEAT pretty well, which is why we returned to kinetic penetrators (APDSFS) for hard targets. Still kinda works as a general purpose round, but it might be inadequate against modern armor.

    The AbramsX is probably a better platform, due to being lighter and it's features; having an ETC capable gun, anti-drone autocannon, better APS system, and AI assisted search-and-track fire control system.
    But either is a major upgrade on past generation systems.

    • @leontan3512
      @leontan3512 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Also being a hybrid makes the AbramsX capabilities to be silent, low thermal and low fuel consumption. Stealth and logistics gamechanger.

    • @kehleaufgrossemstein
      @kehleaufgrossemstein ปีที่แล้ว +10

      But isnt Abrams X more of a test platform than anything else? The Panther however is a production series, so it would make sense it doesnt use all the crazy expensive experimental stuff

    • @SCComega
      @SCComega ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leontan3512 True, and such is certainly an advantage for the AbramsX, but the gas turbine of the Abrams' in service are quieter on the move, though the fuel consumption benefits of the X are certainly there, especially for the export market and as an upgrade package for the growing number of nations adopting the Abrams as a platform.
      But the bigger game changers are what I listed, even if current ammunition doesn't support it, the plasma-based ignition of the AbramsX allows it to use more powerful and safer propellant charges - offering both higher velocities and lower chance of going up if struck by a round. It's actually properly able to handle drones and loitering munitions, it's APS is capable of dealing with top-attack ATGMs better than the KF51 can, and AI is a total game changer, given it's supposed to do active threat assessment, adding an extra layer to the hunter-killer systems NATO has used on tanks these last couple decades. On top of beign a networked system so your tank's AI is communicating with other networked systems too, so.... yeah. Given enough surveillance platforms in the network, be it satellite, drone, other tanks, etc, first-shot capabilities are massively enhanced.
      Also potentially even hyper-accurate indirect fire capabilities with that AI assistance if it's networked, now that I think about it.

    • @SCComega
      @SCComega ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kehleaufgrossemstein The AbramsX is a technology demonstrator platform - it's a private venture by the manufacturer that basically has a bunch of upgrades they themselves have developed for it, and are offering in whole or in part to those who use the Abrams currently.
      It's effectively a sales pitch of a prototype by GM rather than something the US asked to be developed. Upside is, it means that it's for sale for anyone who is running the Abrams - not just the US. So Australia, Poland, and the like could adopt the AbramsX if they were of the mind to spend money on it and got in contact with GM. Downside is... it's not likely to be adopted into service as-is by anyone, because historically technology demonstrators tend to stay just that, with sometimes subcomponents making it into adoption but rarely the entire set of upgrades.

    in my opinion the market situation for this tank is suboptimal. Germany and France won't buy it as they are working on their different combat system. UK just recently anounced the modernization of their Challengers. Spain and Portugal don't have the money. Poland, a major Arms buyer as of late, signed a deal to buy a ton of Corean K2 tanks. I am unshure on how much money Ukraine will have. As potential buyers I see mainly golf states (might be difficult with german foreign ministry regulations on arms sales)... Perhaps India, Turkey or Italy if they could afford it.
    We are probably talking a few hundred tanks sold, not thousands like they did with the Leopard

    • @vorosjanos77
      @vorosjanos77 ปีที่แล้ว

      KMW is so far behind in production that many buyers left the leopard2 because they don't want to wait, e.g. that's why Poland chose Korean tanks! The Hungarian army also ordered the leopard2A7+ in 2018, not a single piece has been delivered, perhaps the first copies will arrive in December! (They are also waiting for PZH2000s from KMW, they could not even deliver all of them, about 10 are still in production, which ties up part of the leopard2 production capacities) Since the Hungarian order was before the war in Ukraine, they wanted to double the leopard2 order, to which KMW said that it could be completed by 2030, as far as I know, they are already negotiating the KF51 with Rheinmetall (the KF41 is already in service in Hungary). Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovakia also chose the leopard2, but they too will only wait until 2028-2029, the German army also needs tanks (they are also waiting for the leopard2), ... due to the slowness of the KMW, there is a market demand for the KF51 to! Don't forget, KMW manufactured more than three thousand leopard2s in 50 years, and as it became more complicated, it produces fewer and fewer of them, currently the maximum capacity is 2-3 units per month, if the production of other vehicles does not limit its capacity.
