My dad is the new owner of this bike and wanted me to get on here and tell you how happy he is with it. He thinks you did an excellent job with all the mods and hopes to take as good of care as you did. Mentioned he was nervous buying sight unseen; but could not be happier with his purchase. Sending you the best from Texas!!
Thank you so much for sending me this note and thank him too. I was quite attached to that bike and I'm glad it found a good new home. You made me so happy to hear this! I never had any issues with it, it's always run perfectly for me. I did a lot of the work on that bike myself, and the one thing I noticed was that the tension on the clutch plates might need a minor adjustment. You just need to unscrew the circular plate on the derby cover and adjust the nut. There are good youtube videos on how to do this. Or take it to the dealership, it's literally a 10min job.
You made his day by responding and now he’s got another question for ya 😊 I see that between video of Sampson pipes and video of ape hanger bars that the wheels were upgraded. I know most lace wheels run tubes but was told that there was a boot kit that could make it tubeless. Do you know if it is tube or tubeless? Thanks. Fred.
@@dbtwithjamie I am running tubes in these tires. I am not sure if it can go tubeless, maybe check with the HD dealer on that one. I prefer tubeless, easier to repair if I get a flat when riding. I wasn't aware it was possible to run tubeless on these wheels.
Good question. The new bikes are ride by wire, but you do still need to snake some wires through the handle bars. If you increase the bar height you obviously need to snake more wire through the bars. Wiring to the switch housing is easier too with new bikes because you just need to connect the wire clips together. I just did a 2023 CVO for a guy, it was a lot easier than the old bikes and no need remove the gas tank. I imagine Hill Country Customs do the same for new bikes too.
Nice job, informative video. Thanks for posting. I am 5" 11" and working to select 14" apes. I want my wrist as straight as possible. How is your wrist angle on the bars?
Yes, 10” apes on the stock risers. The risers pull back a little, so, add about 2.5” so in total it’s about 12.5”. You may want to replace the riser bushings with newer stiffer ones because the length of the bars add leverage and pressure on the riser bushings and can make the risers move back and forth a bit, in other words, ‘wiggle’. Very normal for that to happen when you add taller handle bars. A new and high quality set of bushings will solve that.
Great video, just wondering if the front brake line runs down and under straight to the caliper. I know stock there is a hard brake line between the lower and upper half. Just curious if the new cable is all one piece. Couldn’t catch a glimpse of it.
I bought the whole setup through Hill Country and the brake line that they provided to me is one piece. There is a clip under the triple tree that holds the brake line so it goes to the front caliper without any obstruction. If you call Hill Country they will give you the setup that best suits your bike.
Hey there, these look amazing and im looking to do the exact same thing, but on their website i cant locate these exact bars and setup. Are you able to help me out? Thanks.
Thanks. The bars are Hill Country brand handlebars. They make their own brand. Model number is HC-11410N Handlebars 1 1/4" Ape Hangers 10" Narrow. The risers are my stock risers from my 2006 Softail Deluxe.
Great looking bike and bars. Don't quite aggree about the cable lengths. Throttle and idle cables could have been a bit longer to match the arch of the clutch cable. But that's just my opinion.. ;O)
Thanks for sharing your view on this. I see what you are saying, the cables could be a little longer. I did another bike and the cables were too long (I thought). Maybe this time I over-compensated the other way.
These are 10” bars, but I used the stock risers which are about 3”. I’m 5’8” for your reference and this set up fits me perfect. Wrists are below the shoulders so my hands don’t fall asleep. But my arms are pretty straight forward, only slightly angled down.

Looking back now, I definitely should had paid the extra money to have everything wired up
Super clean! Was height were these bars? 10 or 12"? They look great!
Thanks. 10” bars but i left the stock risers, which 2.5”.
I wonder if the same place (now) does modern (‘19-‘20) DELUXE pre-wired bars(?)

Is that 10” ape hangers? That seems perfect

Did u have to drain the transmission oil?
Yes. But it’s easy to do and should be changed every so often anyways.
