For a machine used in woodworking or metalworking, being heavy is NEVER a drawback. Weight helps stability. So that “criticism” is a little odd. You also make it seem like a compromise that you got the bigger, beefier unit bc the smaller one wasn’t in stock… I have never heard anyone “complain” about getting the bigger, badder machine.

I thought I was stronger then I was so I had to have my wife help me. Her and an 8 foot 2x4 to act as a lever to lift the monster and even then it was tough. I kept thinking “why don’t they provide lift handles” even an eye hook at the top would help but Nova decided that rounded corners and no handles was a better choice.

No, the engineers figure out how to increase the local gravity around this drill press head.
Yeah, the rounded corners look nice but make getting the dead on a real pain!!!

Great review and tips. This is on my list of "must have's". Would be interested in the model of lights from Princess Auto. Where did you buy the drill press from? I use Atlas normally in TO but happy to look around if you had good service somewhere else?

I use Wooden Edge out of Winnipeg just since they are local to me.
The lights are just standard 12v off-road ones that were on sale.

Dang, and my warped sense of humour thought it was kind of clever…
