Alex, this is great, great review. As I scan other reviewers videos on this truck, yours stands out as being the most comprehensive and independent. Most others just reread the marketing pitch they heard at the launch junket. Thanks for doing an _ACTUAL_ review.
I AM IMPREST AND WORMLY GRATIFIED TO SEE & HEAR SOMEBODY THAT TALKS THE SAME UNDERSTANDING HAS I DO. GREAT COMPARISON & WHY THE DIFFERENCES. Good job ! .
Best video review I’ve seen of the new Sierra. Very informative and articulate. And he doesn’t bash anything about the truck. Just gives a non bias observation. Well done.
I've been watching this channel for a while now and I was pleasantly surprised when I started watching this video to find out that it was filmed in my Canadian home province of Newfoundland! I was not expecting that and so it was interesting to see Alex driving on roads that I am used to driving on! :-) This was also another great review by Alex, he is the best there is when it comes to this field of work. When it comes to pick-ups trucks if I was buying one today I would have to say that I would buy the Ram with the Hemi V8.
You know, I think most actual professionals I've seen are in smaller Ford and Toyota trucks, usually older ones. These new trucks are HUGE! I like all the cameras and the light test for the trailer, that could save lives and I always found backing up in a truck without a camera a pain. Weird not to have a bench in the front, I guess I must be old.
Excellent review, thank you. I purchased my 2021 GMC Sierra Denali in March 2021. It’s definitely very well made both inside and out. The interior materials are heavy duty and made to last. GM was correct about the interior options, I don’t want all the luxury stuff, just a truck that’s gonna last. Had my last pickup for 11 years and will probably keep this one as long.
Cylinder skip firing etc. it’s amazing to see all this computing power in cars and trucks today probably more computing power than the dang space shuttle when it was launched in the 80s 😱
As others have said great review. Very thorough and well spoken. Some comparisons with Ram and Ford without overloading statistics. I just graduated from 2019 Sierra 101.
Hey Alex, very thorough as always. One thing I do not recall you mentioning was, if the bed has a switch to turn-on the lights in the bed. Please let your viewers know. Thanks
I have to say, I really appreciate GMs dedication to making their trucks more usable to truck buyers. And the only thing the "RAM" guys can say is that the Interior of their truck is more "luxurious". Get out of here, yall were the same ones shouting that trucks makers dont tend to people who actually use their trucks!!
Man, this guys is good! I've never seen his reviews before but definitely subscribing. Also great truck! In all honesty RAM is going to have the market this year. The 1500 is a beast.
Perhaps the Sierra can be optioned with an extended bed (about 8'-0" long), enabling that smaller pop tailgate to accommodate 4'x8' plywood or gypsum boards with the inner panel in the vertical position, without having to tie-down. Of course, that usually means a regular or extended cab.
I couldn’t care less about having a tablet screen on my dash. Or a leather dash for that matter. Most leather interiors I’ve seen on trucks just a few years old are trashed already because people don’t know the first thing about maintaining a nice interior. So for all those “I want soft touch dash” folks...good luck.
In terms of design I think it's the best looking pickup truck on the market, but it does not have that same level of interior quality as the new Ram. While it does have more technology such as Magnetic Ride Control carbon fiber bed and the new 10-speed automatic it really needed to focus more on the interior.
This was a great review, really appreciate all the practical info. Do you know if the start/stop button is permanently on/off or do you have to press it each time you start the truck?
What GMC is pulling from the wrong pool of case study, I personally would love to see what the Engine is doing in the display, But I am a car enthusiasts so most likely 5% of the market or so eh?
There's no denying that the Ram has the better interior, but the GMC has the far superior driving dynamics, styling (opinion), drivetrain (at least with the 6.2L and 10-speed), interior room, and bed. I just got back from test driving the one Sierra Denali our local dealer has on the lot (3 others were sold basically the moment they arrived) and I came away far more impressed than I thought I'd be. The interior takes the older-gen interior's basic design and turns it up to 11 - much better switchgear, much clearer screens, better materials (eg. real aluminum, more real wood, more soft touch materials), better layout for the switchgear, and generally keeps an attractive - though somewhat aged - design alive.
The sierra denali is ridiculously expensive compared with the ram truck, which can be purchased at just slightly over $40k (huge discount), for a laramie package. Technology wise, nobody knows if the cylinder-shutting stuff will have problems, and how much it will cost for repair, while the ram's 5.7 hemi has been tested for many years.
Alex, please tell us if those four holes I see in that open hood perform any function. I notice that may fit in the section sealed with weather-stripping behind and above the grill.
Great review. I just subscribed. I’ve never even considered buying anything other than GM products (mostly because of the family discount) but I will definitely consider Ram and Ford for my next truck. I’m definitely not impressed.
Why did they have to make it bigger? the last model was perfect, I currently own a 15' all terrain, and love the truck, this new truck does not give me any reason to trade up, the Ram , however does!
The only dislike I have for GMC/Chevy trucks is with the front seating, I've sat in both (2019 Chevy and 2018 GMC) and they're narrow. Now I'm pretty average back there so it can't be me. RAM, Tundra and Ford have a much more comfortable front seat configuration. Other than that I love the new Sierra.
You can have that "auto stop/start" system. We have that system on our 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and I hate it! I heard a story where someone was on a snowy turnpike in stop and go traffic. The battery went dead from all the stops and goes. My advice is run down to the dealerships now and buy up the 2018's while you can still get em.
well of course, that was an FCA product, why would they actually engineer anything to last? also, what kind of owner doesn't know if there battery is beginning to wear? ever heard of scheduled maintenance?
Cylinder deactivation. I think the word he was trying to reach for or imply was this version of GMC skip deactivation in theory would offer better wear of the engine or more even wear than having the same 4 cylinders deactivated. For now I'll buy into the random deactivation but I'm going to wait a couple years to see how this irons out. I'm looking for a pickup truck but I won't be buying any vehicle that's a first generation model.
Seems to me the focus for this truck was more on utility, than on luxury. It's still a decent looking vehicle, although I prefer the Silverado's front end especially in RST trim.
It looks like the headlights pushed the grille forwards. And with all the 'nature' that is going to end up inside that tailgate, I hope they drain well to be hosed out. With speakers no less...
If you want to tow, you select a different engine option. Choice is good. Not everyone needs to tow, so why not go for a more efficient engine option that matches the work for your particular application.
Hi Alex, I have a small favor. My parents are 70 and looking for the most comfortable riding SUV. One that absorbs as many bumps and is as soft as possible. Any suggestions?? They also cannot get too far up or down. So hopefully something they can just easily get in and out. I know that a lot but figured you would really know this. Thank you!!!
Nodak81 I have an Audi, grew up driving a Lincoln towncar, have friends who work at BMW, but I think my favorite vehicle is still my father’s 2004 Chevy Tahoe.
Great review, very informative. What is the recommended driving mode for every day driving? Seems it would be the auto 4wd or all wheel drive but when I test drove the Denali version the salesman said he recommended 2WD high but it seemed to accelerate better in auto mode 4WD
I drove one of these yesterday, it was a 2019 Sierra Elevation Double Cab with the 5.3L V8. Thing SUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKSSSS, I've also driven a 98 1500, an 02 2500HD, been in a 05 F-150, and I got to say there's so much wasted potential with the new 1500. It's bigger than the old 1500 while not having as much room, I get that safety features and tech make it hard to keep the interior spacious but come on. Visibility on the new 1500 is god awful, the windshield is tiny, A,B, & C pillars are huge, and the grainy reverse camera only adds to the frustration. Ride is uncomfortable at best, and I honestly got to say that my 2002 Mustang GT rode better even with stiff Koni shocks and struts. There's a lot of tech but none of the staples, I had to drive down some steep canyon roads and was shocked to find no downward hill assist like in my 2010 Escape. After going only half a mile down the canyon and the brakes got heat fade, my foot hit the floor on the brake pedal and I started accelerating. If this all happened in that 98 1500 I drove, that wouldn't have surprised me because its a cheap car. My jaw dropped to find that this damn Elevation 1500 cost roughly $60k leaves no excuse, GM/Chevy has dropped in quality too much.
funny thing is with the "air efficiency" is that the air drag is a small % of the real cost/drag/efficiency issue that vehicles have. Very much why trucks have pretty much maxed out at the 20-22mpg highway rating. This guy's reviews are so thorough i won't have to ask the salesman any questions at the dealership.
That's the point, you know what to expect.
This guy does a bad ass job every time. Very articulate and detailed review 👍👏
Alex, this is great, great review. As I scan other reviewers videos on this truck, yours stands out as being the most comprehensive and independent. Most others just reread the marketing pitch they heard at the launch junket. Thanks for doing an _ACTUAL_ review.
Again, you're the most thorough and collected reviewer I've seen. Thanks for covering everything even though it's not your full review.

You sir are the best car/truck vehicle reviewer in the business.
The GMC Sierra is my favorite as far as looks.
12:15 Let's not kid ourselves here. This is the truck gun/go-bag compartment.
This would be my pick if I could afford a pickup these days lol.
Alex you do the best reviews on TH-cam.
Definitely buying this truck used 4 years from now.
Terrific job in my dream pickup truck Alex.
This is THE BEST review of a vehicle i've ever seen. Great job!
Hey Alex, very thorough as always. One thing I do not recall you mentioning was, if the bed has a switch to turn-on the lights in the bed. Please let your viewers know. Thanks
The Cargo Light switch is driver left hand side just above the lights
this looks great . like the new look but my fav is the AT4 trim
I actually watched the whole thing because I wasn't bored for once 😮
my ford needs a heated tail gate to keep my wifes hands warm when the'ol ford wont take us home
As usual, your review was excelente. Thanks for another great video, Alex!
I have to say, I really appreciate GMs dedication to making their trucks more usable to truck buyers. Man, this guys is good! I've never seen his reviews before but definitely subscribing. Also great truck! In all honesty RAM is going to have the market this year. The 1500 is a beast.
I think I’m looking at my next truck.
That’s one sweet truck !
Another great review, Alex. If I was in the market for a new pickup, I'd give the AT4 a test drive.
The best review as usual, Alex. I love details.
There's going to be a lot of dented tailgates from dropping the upper portion on to your trailer ball...
won't wear well AT ALL.
When I seen that I was thinking the exact same thing.
that is on the operator. keep the gate as a normal tailgate position and no problem.
That would be user error.
They are probably pretty inexpensive though.
Hahahahahahaha
brilliant job on a vip of the market, an lots of great details... cheers Allan
Best review. In-depth, informative and strait fwd. well done.
GM screens might not be the biggest, but to my eyes it is the most aesthetic looking screen available. Looks like a jailbroken iphone!
Very sporty truck! Love it.
Very informative. Just purchased at 2019 SLT.
AS a GM person my whole life the inside of this truck is no comparison to the new Ram.
If you were to buy a new truck are you going to get that 8" screen. Do you use your truck for work or are you a city truck driver?
@The Insufferable Tool that's because you are uniformed.
TheCamaro5 wait for the next gen f150
wait what like four years. LOL! the 2018 model in their all new truck.
Very good review
In terms of design I think it's the best looking pickup truck on the market, but it does not have that same level of interior quality as the new Ram. While it does have more technology such as Magnetic Ride Control carbon fiber bed and the new 10-speed automatic it really needed to focus more on the interior.
correction, The GMC has better interior quality, The Ram has better interior design.
@@djayt1215 well I was talking more about materials (more leather, more real wood, more soft touch points)
@pmerk36 agreed, GM claimed they would differentiate the silervaro and Sierra... but I guess not
The Sierra Denali is the best looking truck on the market and has been for a while. By the way I love your reviews
Love your videos! How about a full size truck comparison video considering 2019 is the year of the truck!
Do you need to remove the trailer hitch ball when you lower the tailgate?
Tailgate is nice function wise, but you can't use the step with a hitch on the track. That's a problem.
Very nice.
why do only rear seat specs i am going buy the thruck i want to know the FRONT SEAT SPECS
This thing looks so rad
Needs a proper set of wheels in a bad way!
Looks like a bad nose job
Are there any problems with the fuel management systems, has this been improved from the older models
This was a great review, really appreciate all the practical info. Do you know if the start/stop button is permanently on/off or do you have to press it each time you start the truck?
If remember right from the Owners Guide, it's on automatically when starting.
at 17:20 he mentions a button that lowers all the windows in the vehicle.. was this a troll or was he being serious??
There is a button that does this.
Imma get me one of those with the 6.2V8!
Awesome 😃 👍 2019 GMC Sierra review .
What GMC is pulling from the wrong pool of case study, I personally would love to see what the Engine is doing in the display, But I am a car enthusiasts so most likely 5% of the market or so eh?
In case u didn't know, that's a GMC, shown by the front logo.
So the cellphone cubby in the armrest isn't a wireless charging pad?
There is wireless charging capabilities & if connected via Bluetooth, it'll show the phone charging.
Wish there was a heater for the bed to keep ski boots warm under tonneau covers.
Tailgate and engine are so complicated. Which 1/2 ton is most reliable in the end? Probably not the one that's the most complicated.
ya always do a nice review

any pickup trucks with room behind the rear seats

Alex, I’ve seen that there are some options with running boards having three phases? Any comment or video about this?

Alex, any chance you could do a car seat review for the latest Hyundai Veloster?

Why the small screens???
No tow mirrors?

Good, I don’t want to know my engine is running only with 2 cylinders, I might piss myself off if I am constantly aware of it
Turbo 4??? Yeah Idk about that on trucks when you have to tow! But gotta see it to believe it.
If you want to tow, you select a different engine option. Choice is good. Not everyone needs to tow, so why not go for a more efficient engine option that matches the work for your particular application.
except its hardly anymore efficient than the V6 or V8s out there. The 4 cylinder is junk

funny thing is with the "air efficiency" is that the air drag is a small % of the real cost/drag/efficiency issue that vehicles have.
