Just wanted to add Philip, the actual focus of the footage you did was perfect. It feels and looks real and has a certain distance and noir to it that I think makes it preferable to something clinical like clear focus at all times.

Good to see I wasn't the only one with slightly shaky focus breathing footage 😂. Great breakdown! Just posted a short review on my channel with a little horror short. And like you said, it ticks all the boxes. Exactly what I said in my review. Literally couldn't find anything bad to say about it.
I know it’s meant for full frame cameras, but I’m assuming it’ll still work for apsc sensors? It would just be 45mm focal length instead of 30

@@bertoliniduceor just use a speedbooster and not loose anything.
Actually, it will work amazingly well for APSC sensors as the lens is much sharper in the centre and with any lens they fall off on the edges while you’re using just primarily the centre 2/3 of the lens so you’ve got the sharpest image all the way around even to the edges

It's a really, really nice lens! I have quite an echo in this room, so I use voice isolation in Final Cut Pro X, and it really helps clean it up and get rid of that nasty echo as much as possible. Thanks!

Your rig is geared for ots shots but what about other shots for the scene? That's why I'm not into the shoulder mounts.
Well, that is my shoulder rig, for other shots, I slide it off the plate and use it with a top handle, handheld, on a gimbal, etc. My shoulder rig is for specific shoulder rig shots, it's another tool in the shed.
@@PhillipSkraba can get too comfortable with a set up sometimes. Yeah moving about the camera gets us many shots to cut.

I have a Samyang Cine 35mm T1.5 lens and I got it at a good price.
That's all I am going to stick with for now.
Oh yeah, the Samyangs are dirt cheap to pick up, quality and resolution is a little lacking for my needs, but it's a good stepping stone.

What do the filters have to do with the 180 rule? And then you mention the shutter speed? Thanks
I might start off with this - there are two 180 rules in cinematography. The first is a magic line which your camera shouldn't cross if you're filming two people speaking to each other, the second is the standard in the film industry, and it explains the relationship between shutter speed and frame rate when recording motion in video. To mimic motion the same way the human eye experiences it in real life, the 180-degree rule states that shutter speed should be set to double your frame rate. - So if you're filming at 25fps your shutter should be 1/50th, an ND filter will help you get your shutter speed low enough so you're footage isn't overexposed.
Now, both these rules can be broken depending on the look you're going for and to do so is another tool in the cinematographers shed.

lol! I actually love one lens sets... but I've asked Irix if they could send me a full set, so I could bring a review on every single one of their lenses, and be able to use them in my everyday work. The 30mm though! That is no doubt the one and only lens that you can use for everything and it'll always look good.

Sure there are!
Color looks very pale. Is it possible to get better color saturation in post, without it looking forced?
The colour is my grade, however, Poland during winter is quite pale, as is my way of using FilmConvert to grade, I enjoy the muted tones. You can grade it how you wish though if your cameras profile can handle it, and you can get a lot more saturation out of it, sure!

I have used Xeen once, they were okay, but I really like the design and feel of the Irix. If I had to choose it would be hard, as they're both great budget cine lenses, but I think I'd go with Irix as I've really enjoyed using it.

A gimbal is a tool, but it really depends on the look you want when it comes to stability.
