Thank you for these videos. You gave so much good advice. I have been looking for a video that explains the principles of Bonsai and you gave the perfect explanation of what we should be going for.

Hello.... I have a Japanese Hornbeam and I am getting worried about it. I looked it over the other day and the foliage in spots is turning brown and falling off. When I go the Bonsai tree it was in shade and I had it in part sun for maybe an hour a day. I water it every morning and have moved it back in the shade. It is a smaller bonsai tree witch I don't wont to lose. I am not sure at this time if it is pest or to much sun! I am hoping that someone may be able to help me get an understanding of whatsis happening. Thank you so much.

Lamar Hedden I'm sorry I cannot diagnose your Hornbeam from here because there are so many questions to ask. First is your bonsai newly repotted? or newly bought? if newly repotted you should put in shade for a while and let it establish before moving to the sun, do not move it too much like what you are doing unless it is well anchored in the pot by wires. Also do not immediately moved to direct sun if it has been in shade for a while, the plant needs time to adjust and you need to ease it out to the sun. Second question when was the last time you fertilize it? because browning of tips and leaves falling can be cause by over fertilization, if newly bought when was the last fertilization by the nursery? Over or under watering is easily checked by dipping a stick to your soil, you can be over watering it leading to root rot.l
