I’m also a Child Protection Case Worker. Here in NY, you can have a degree in a range of areas, not just social work. My BS is in Child Psyc and my MS is in Business and Leadership. I learnt recently that if I wanted a MSW, I could get one after working for two years and of course this would require me to remain with the agency for 5 additional years. I’m looking forward to more experience and to further my studies.
Awwwww...Jasmine, am soo proud of you..am at the finishing stages of my social work course and recently had my placement at children and families services and omg...it was hands full like you said..I think moving forward, I would like you to talk about some of the skills you need in that setting to realy work under pressure..would luv to hear your version coz u have a way of simplifying things which is conveyed with warmth..and that's a relief..keep doing what u do best..u are such an inspiration, and luv all your videos..especially the one u had on the trauma informed care...it realy helped me to integrate some of the theories behind it in my assignment and was soo on point.. xxxx
Love watching your videos and hearing about your journey as a social worker! I just started my first year of social work and have had many moments of doubt about my abilities but I found your videos which are a part of what keeps me motivated! Get it gurlll 💓
Hi Jasmine, just dropping by to say a big congratulations to you and to let you know that I am in my final year now, currently wrapping up my FINAL placement! OMG can't believe I just said that!!! I can fully remember making a comment on here when I had just gotten a place at Uni almost 3 years ago and how scared I was then! I have always wanted be go into mental health social work and luckily for me my last placement is with a Mental Health and Substance Misuse Team and I wish I can stay put in this team as it has been such an incredible journey and a huge learning curve for me. I am so looking forward to progressing in this career. Here's to beautiful beginnings xxxxx 🙂😊
Congratulations on your new role. I'm looking forward to watching more of your social work videos. I just got hired in January as a Family and Child Worker.
Congratulations on your new role! I too hope to one day be a child protection worker, your videos are very inspiring and motivational please keep sharing!
Congrats on your new role! I recently was employed as a dependency case manager, my job title and description is similar to yours. I actually start my training next week to become a certified child welfare case manager, which my employer pays for.
Im so excited im in my third year doing my placement with family and community services and in the OOHC team.....hope you will share more about your new job.....congratulations 💃 🎉
Glad you're getting payed well....working with child protective agencies in the US usually doesn't pay well but the benefits that come along with it wrks for some people.....is this a government job if you mind me asking? I start my placement this summer at a hospital and then a full year at a retirement home.
Wow , interesting . I live in nj and child protection services start BACHELORS graduates at $50,000....that’s pretty good for someone straight out college. Not to mention the longer you stay , the higher your pay goes up ....
Hi jasmine, congratulations on ur new job! I just started master of social work study, and very interested in child protection. But during the 4 weeks study I found English as a second language seems to be a barrier which makes hard to communicate with people effectively, also different culture backgrounds is another problem for mutual understanding. May I ask do you have some experience to handle this? Thanks
Wang Yan thank u, never had an issue with English as i have always spoken English. However, regarding the cultural difference theres is a lot u can do to manage this. I will make a video on this soon. Stay tuned xx
Jasmine Ama thanks Jasmine for your reply.Did you ever meet some social worker whose English as second language? Is it possible to make an introduction about it?
Good for you. l am left with a month to complete my Bachelor's and l have no idea how to get a job. Trying Google but feel like am not getting because l don't have experience am a fresher, any help guys, please help me.
I'm actually shocked you went into a social work job so quick. Congrats though. You said you work 35 hours a week, but you work 9-5, is that because you're not including the hour lunch? (cause generally in the west we would say we work 40 hours a week inclusive of the hour lunch).
@@JasmineAmaa I am happy you were able to come to a decision and that you got a flexible job. Hopefully that will assist in avoiding burnout. I have decided that after my masters a healthcare related field will more suit me. I think that direction will encompass all the main areas that I am interested in career wise and the field will always be in demand....
I need advice please, I come from a large family, been through up and down, learned to look after my younge6ones when I was reyoung, I am good at carifor people, it6like something that flows inside me, tiny passion. I worked in childcare and I became like a mom to most kids, parents depending on me that I can calm their kids and make them feel happy in the creche. I now changed my career to business, as a young person, I felt like it was a right thing to do to fit in this society, I'm surrounded by all these with great title and cool jobs, so I went to try business and it feels great, but now I know that it's not for me and I have to go back to what makes me more of a happy human, I am currwntly searching for courses and social worker is one of my first options. Is it a good career to have while having a family? What's the pay like? Is a lot of work, how much work is in it? How much work do you do in college? Answering this will really help me, thanks very much 🥰
