I need to watch the video again. The canvas had a previous painting on it and you covered it up with the painting you started this video with? Where did the original landscape come from? And I keep forgetting how wonderful purple looks in an abstract landscape. The finished painting is incredible.
Sorry, I didn't reply to your question!! The paint at the beginning was literally just where I'd 'blocked in' some areas of colour that I thought created a basic shape to work from. I kept them fairly neutral so they could be developed or painted over, depending how the picture progressed. It's much easier than starting with a completely blank white canvas, even if it changes to something different in the process of painting!
