- When we hear of Tondo, the first thing that comes to our mind is poverty. However, Tondo is not all about crime slum and povery, in fact, it is now the new center of development in Manila. Towering skycrapers and new developments are rising in every corner of Tondo. Investments seems to be pouring into Manila's once-neglected neighborhood. If investments continue to increase over the next 15 years, Tondo could become 'The Next Hong Kong'.
Other parts of Manila have also seen a dramatic increase in investments and construction activities such as the popular districts of Ermita, Binondo, and Malate.

The best thing to develop Tondo is when developers buy the whole area and make it another CBD. Small time bit by bit encroachment is not the way to go because the spider web wires and ugly sidewalk will REMAIN. 😊
If we learn anything, its NOT to trust the govt to be able to develop any place in this country. They are inept at learning the basics of mainenance and simple modernization (i.e burying wires, asphalting streets, maintaining and cleaning sidewalks, setitng and enforcing basic rules to ban vendors and illegal parking and counterflow, banning illegal settlers and professional squatters, creating simple social apartment blocs to house all the homeless and poor, then demolishing their slums and redeveloping them into lucrative business, industrial and residential zones). Leave it to the land developers to buy huge swathes of the city and they can transform it into the next BGC or a mixed historic and modern district.
That is the problem with urban developments in Metro Manila. Private investments create beautiful buildings, but the public sector fail to catch up in terms of providing good well manicured streets. Thus our only hope is for a private developer to bulldoze everything and create everything from scratch. But the problem with private developers is they are not inclusive to SMEs or small medium enterprises.

Be patient. Mawawala din yang mga yan kasi kailangan ng stable at safe supply ng electricity ng mga CBDs.
Yung periphery nga ng Taguig at Makati ganyan din dati noong late 90s at early 2000s. Pero kita mo ngayon wala ng mga sala-salabid na electric wires.
Pasensya lang muna. Gagawin din yan ng local government kasi yung mga mismong private owners ang magla-lobby na ayusin ang mga electric wires.
Imagine kapag nagawa na yung LRT West extension, gagandang tignan ang Recto Area Tapat ng Tutuban , Divisoria to PIER.
The view of the beautiful structures is being ruined by those hanging spaghetti wires...The govt needs to invest on fixing them... they're disappointingly an eyesore.

A lot of credit goes to the developers. It's their money and investors money they are risking to build skyscrapers and in so doing, modernized the city.

Please don't confuse Tondo from Binondo. Tondo is further north closer to Caloocan while Binondo is closer to the Pasig River. Binondo has a large Chinoy community while Tondo is mostly Pinoys from all over the Philippines.

Taga dyan Tita ko at mga pinsan ko sa may moriones tondo sila malapit sa simbahan ng moriones. Dati parang squatters lugar nila pero ngayon ang lalaki na ng mga bahay na mga konkreto na. Mga 2nd to 4rth floors na mga bahay sa lugar ng mga Tita ko.

Karamihan naman ng bahay sa tondo na buildings lalo na sa abad santos area mga chinoy may ari tas nakapaligid sa mga buildings mga slum area.
Napakarami ng nag comment tungkol sa spaghetti wires pero wala pa tayong naririnig na sagot mula sa mga kinauukulan.

Tondo is not like this yet but very soon the Tondo we know will be gone and millions displaced by gentrification. I hate to think where the squatters will be moving next.
That's always the attribute of urbanization
These squatters and slum dwellers will be placed in relocation sites and some will stay in “city mid housing projects for the poor”…. They are also high rises.
That is progress….
To a better and safer place I hope as their current situation is far from ideal

Properties in Manila is relatively cheaper than other CBDs i.e. Makati and BGC.
Sana pumasok pa ang investments sa Manila para makahabol sa other CBDs sa Pilipinas. However, sana ay mapanatili yung mga buildings na may historical value para maging combination ng old at new Manila.

Hopefully old and historic structures will be protected and preserve amidst the ongoing development of Manila

Need ng Pinas mga new architects na moderno, minimalist ang designs. Parang mahilig sa 4-corners and mga buildings dyan, box style puede namng i-curve ang corners baka maungusan pa ng North Korea ang Pinas sa architectural designs.
Maraming magagaling na architect dito kaso ang problema kapag nandyan na hindi naman na susunod yung original design kaya minsan pangit yung kinalalabasan kapag natapos

Madami po kaming mga ideas. Kung gusto mo pa gagawa ng exoskeleton cladding sa high rise structures gaya ng mga style ni Zaha Hadid. Ang tanong eh willing to risk ba ang mga clients especially sa budget? Baka sa side pa lang ng architect kakainin na ang budget eh mas lalo pa siguro sa structural works na. Di mo din masisisi ang mga architect kasi nakabase din yan sa situation.

Hello po @cityexplorerplus yung video nyo po from 0:11 - 3:22 hindi po Tondo yun, San Nicolas po iyon. Pag tumawid po kayo ng Claro M. Recto Avenue yun na po ang Tondo. Mas malaki po ang Tondo na may dalawang distrito na sakop, District 1 and 2. Ang sakop po ng District 3 ay Sta. Cruz, Quiapo, Binondo at San Nicolas. Yun lang po. 😀😀😀

I hope they reserve 30% - 40% of Tondo to build big parks with lots of trees and open spaces for people to go jogging, play soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball and to picnic. I hope this area doesn't become a concrete jungle like Hong Kong. That would be terrible. If Metro Manila keeps building high rises, it might find itself sinking like Jakarta in Indonesia. Just look at how many Chinese cities are sinking due to overbuilding of high rises.

The region of Tondo has been settled by humans for over 1,100 years. Historically, Tondo already existed in the year 900 AD according to the Laguna Copperplate Inscription. WHY THE CITY DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO TONDO?
Is it because it's a haven for the poor people? It can be done. There is nothing impossible if your look at the people equally.
We have never seen such disgusting ugly wires in my life until we visited all Philippine. It's what we remember the most in our trips. Very sad.
