I have enjoyed traveling along with you and now with sally along it has been great. I will watch out for your next journeys around the canals and follow your next vlogs. Take care and stay well and happy, Ed 40 S of Vegas.
Hi Kevin, thanks for letting me know, we couldn't remember its breed, just that it was a really lovely dog. Happy 1st Birthday to Freya, Alan and Sally.
Evening Alan and Sally, oh that was a lovely series, and a lovely way to bring it to a close. Love watching you both. Thoroughly looking forward to seeing what you have planned next. Thank you both for sharing 🍷🍷
Evening Steve. We’re pleased you enjoyed watching, we had great fun on the cruise and the series is a great memento for us. I have quite a lot of projects on the go, mainly of an heritage nature, just need to find the time to do the editing. Thanks for your support, have a great weekend 🥂
Greetings both. At last we have caught up with your output. Obviously we passed like ships in the night around Christmas..... getting over my op. but Ashby has been a very relaxing watch but your situation with near miss in lock we can see as upsetting in the extreme. Keep well. Bob and Helen.
Hi Bob and Helen, I hope you’re both well on the mend and that this year will be less stressful for you. Sally and I are glad you enjoyed the Ashby Canal series, we had great fun making it even with the upset. All the best, take care.
Hi Alan and Sally, really enjoyed your cruise down the Ashby. Watch out for that lock in Braunston on the way back, should be fine going up in the lock though. Looking forward to your next adventure or visit somewhere. Shame you never got to fulfil your wishes to work in the film industry, you would have been great at it. Glad you both loved the cruise, take care and have a great weekend
Thank you Paul. All was good on our return journey, thanks. We’ve not got anything specific planned yet, so don’t know what we’ll be up to. You’re right, I would have loved to have been involved in film making. You too have a lovely weekend.
Excellent video and series - thank you for taking us along - It's a pity to see it ending, however, I am looking forward to the next chapter in your cruising and general travels. All the best to you, Sally and Reggie.👍
Thank you very much, Sally and I are pleased you’ve enjoyed this series. We too look forward to what’s next, which is still an unknown presently. Best wishes to you🤠
This series was very interesting!! As always I enjoy the cruising and the industrial heritage videos!!! I have been a fan of your's for 3 or 4 years. Best wishes for you and Sally for the new year and beyond! take care be safe and well!!! BY FOR NOWWW!!!
Thank you so much for your ongoing support Max, it’s great to know you like all aspects of the channel. Wishing you a Happy Healthy New Year, take care Alan and Sally.
GG says woof to Reggie . We are experiencing wildfires here. But 20 miles away. I enjoy you videos. Sorry to hear about the Bridgewater breach. Watching Taylor aboard a Narrowboat for updates
Hi Kat, Reggie says woof back to GG. Just been watching the wildfires on a special news report, absolutely horrendous! The Bridgewater breach is devastating. Take care, Sally and I hope you’re not affected by the wildfires.
Well I've finally caught up with you. I've really enjoyed this cruise. What a shame you couldn't cruise right to the end. I think the dog that you meant, was a Malamute? xx
Although as Leicester County Council's ownership of the final end of the the Ashby and their tardiness in sorting the Transfer Order meant that they had to fund the breach in 2019 they seem to be slow to sort out the badger undermining now. It's been closed for three years or more and they seem in no hurry to sort it this time and the lack of traffic is resulting in the weeding of the section. How long before this state of affairs means that the restored section needs restoring again and what incentive do the volunteers have for progressing?
Hi Melvyn, I did some research on the badger sett yesterday and found an award notice dated 18-Sep-2024 stating a contract had gone to Rothen to remove the temporary dam, sheet pile to create a new bank, install gabion baskets between the piles and existing bank, and to install a new towpath along the edge of the newly created bank. To be completed by September 2025. You can find it on bidstats.uk tenders 2024 w38 830931182. You need to put slashes in between the gaps. Hope that helps.
Great news Alan. Perhaps with the on-costs that the county council have had to find for work on this section they might be more inclined to sign off the Works Order. It's been rumbling on through County Hall's legals for years - no doubt they rue their own tardiness!
Glad you enjoyed it Colin. There is a public footpath that crosses the bridge just before the turning circle. I now realise we could have walked along the opposite side of the canal.
Great series. Thank you for sharing. My only comment, not a harsh criticism, is your narration is a bit monotone and robotic. But I'll keep watching. 😂😂
Thank you very much. If you look at the auto captioning you’ll see why. It’s not perfect, as it can’t pick up on place names, as an example, but if you compare with other vlogs you watch, you might be more understanding. At least I am understood, when I speak, many viewers have told me that🤠
Hi both excellent video as usual great drone footage. As a non boater Alan, when and how was the canal terminated at the winding hole. BTW Heidi did this a couple of years ago can't quite remember. Best regards to you and Sally and Reggie bless him from Chester. PS so sad about the recent breach, not sure Peel will foot the bill, many millions. Take care.
Thank you very much Philip. By 1966 the canal had been shortened by 8 miles, I don’t know when the turning circle was added. My previous Ashby series was made in 2019. My thoughts are similar to yours on the Bridgewater. All the best, Alan, Sally and Reggie pug.
There was a barrier and a sign clearly stating "Towpath Closed". Instead of respecting the reasons - the welfare of the badgers - it felt like all you were interested in was filming yourself getting to the end of the canal. Especially disappointing attitude from someone who volunteers with the CRT.
Thanks Alan. Take care.
Thanks for watching Roger, all the best.
I’ve enjoyed your journey with Sally, you both seem to have a lot in common and enjoy each others company. Look forward to your next journey.
Thank you so much Lucille for supporting the channel, Sally and I get on very well together and planning new ventures.
I have enjoyed traveling along with you and now with sally along it has been great. I will watch out for your next journeys around the canals and follow your next vlogs. Take care and stay well and happy, Ed 40 S of Vegas.
That’s very kind of you Ed, thanks for your ongoing support. All the very best to you, take care and have a Happy Healthy New Year.
I really enjoyed this series. Looking forward to the next series. Thank you Alan and Sally for sharing your journey so far, its much appreciated ☕ 👍
Thank you so much for your appreciation, it means a great deal to both of us. We're glad you enjoyed watching.
Hi Alan, our dog you mentioned at the end is a Husky Malamute cross, her name is Freya and she has just turned 7 in December.
Hi Kevin, thanks for letting me know, we couldn't remember its breed, just that it was a really lovely dog. Happy 1st Birthday to Freya, Alan and Sally.

No doubts, not having anything to do with narrow boats, this is the greatest channel.
That's really very kind of you to say, thank you so much.

We have a big steam museum in Cambridge from Tony in Cambridge 😊😊😊😊
Thanks Tony, I’m not familiar with that one, so will look it up 🤠
Well I've finally caught up with you. I've really enjoyed this cruise. What a shame you couldn't cruise right to the end. I think the dog that you meant, was a Malamute? xx
Well done, you’re right about the dog, as the owner advised me in a comment. I was disappointed not to reach the end but at least we walked there xx
Another great series . looking forward to the next one. Really relaxing style and happy new year to you both
Thank you so much Malcolm, very kind of you. Happy New Year.
Incidentally you can sponsor a plain brick in the Gilwiskaw aqueduct for £10. Inscribed bricks are £100.
Thanks Melvyn, I did realise that later on, but the focus at the time was on the inscribed bricks appeal.

@ Let’s Hope common sense prevails and they pass it over, after the works have completed.
The towpath was clearly closed i'm surprised you filmed actually walking down it I think the canal was closed off because of Badgers Interesting video
Glad you enjoyed it Colin. There is a public footpath that crosses the bridge just before the turning circle. I now realise we could have walked along the opposite side of the canal.
Yes, I was surprised you went against a 'Footpath Closed' sign. Reg was being the sensible one here by refusing to go round it.
Great series. Thank you for sharing. My only comment, not a harsh criticism, is your narration is a bit monotone and robotic. But I'll keep watching. 😂😂

We were told it was ok to use the towpath to reach the end. There was no signage to suggest it was closed because of badgers?
