    This video shows a timelapse video on how to model a simple Stylized Toaster. Autodesk maya was used to model and Substance Painter for texturing. It took about 45 minutes to make the whole thing.

    I like that we see you trying different things in substance painter in this video. you are not sure what you are going to do until you've tried different things out and seen how they look. thats how I work and I am happy to see someone I admire do the same. it's validating.

    Hello! Great video as usual :D
    One quick question: Is there a reason why you bake the normal, position and thickness before you bake the AO and curvature? Does it improve the quality of the bake?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do that because those maps are faster to bake( at least on my computer) so I bake those first. I do AO alone or with curvature because AO takes a little longer to bake. It doesn't make a difference in the results.

    Do you take concepts from anywhere? Or do you look at reference, then model from your imagination?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I look at concepts from Artstation; most of the things here are made from concepts, very few I just made up.

    How many UV maps do you usually use for something such as this? Do you separate parts on different maps or include everything on one UV map?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything is one Uv map, I like to only use one texture for a single prop( or a set of similar props ).

  • @loBokyin1006
    @loBokyin1006 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Your work is really impressive!
    But may I ask that why you can planar those UVs without adjusting the projection axis?
    I could do a UV without doing so
    thanks!

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the planar map settings you can set it to best projection so you don't have to manually do that.

  • @apriabudiman
    @apriabudiman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will the initial base mesh you made in maya will be enough to be projected by the high res sculpt you done in zbrush? Or do you retopologize the high sculpt first before you continue in substance?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless you change a lot then you don't need to retopologize the model. As long as it doesn't change too much in silhouette.

    good evening do you prefer to work with substance painter or 3D-coat?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For textures I use Substance Painter, 3D coat is great if you want to do hand painted textures though.

    Nice job. What about maps, did you make a normal map in Maya or in a SP? Where are the best to do them and which cards are needed?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bake them in Substance Painter, you need a high poly model for that.

    • @avydice
      @avydice 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      3dEx Thank you)

    • @avydice
      @avydice 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      3dEx I need to export both high and low poly in the SP for normal map? Or what?

    • @3dextrude
      @3dextrude  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Import the low poly and then import the high poly in the bake settings.

    • @avydice
      @avydice 6 ปีที่แล้ว
