I think a way to improve "horde" a bit is that the resources don't respawn (the bays and crates) unless you scan an objective in the middle of the map DURING the wave
Guessing this wave/trial mode is probably what they cut when they extended the release by a sprint. I was very annoyed when I found out the art+OST were locked, but this rush into DLC transactions is worse. I liked the base game, but really not a fan of the business model.
The icons to the right of each pilot in the lower left pane show the status of your lance mates (follow, guard location, repair, and attack) This should help when your lance-mates keep changing their activity for...whatever reason occurs to them.
My latest uploads show my attempt at going as far as I can in horde assault class. I played for about 6 hours before finally going down. On Trueborn difficulty. The Rounds need to ramp up in difficulty much quicker. Like at least twice as fast. Also I had the same issue with the drone carrier getting bugged... Eventually I killed it and in a later round another spawned but acted normally. Cool addition to the game when it works correctly.
Well this mode is not all bad once you get the hang of it. So far I cleared out 21 round of intense Mech fighting. It’s like holding off and protecting your home. And man a few units. Your star the turret cluster and artillery against more the A Galaxy Of bad guys....that is if you can get that far. Glad the ammo reloads are unlimited. Your gonna need them to fight off this war pal. Sheesh!
I'm gonna be honest, I can't imagine a way for a MW game to have a horde mode that is even a hundredth as interesting as actual horde games, because it can't actually swarm you in a way that doesn't feel like you just can't deal with it. I think this might be a neat way to kill some time, but I would absolutely not spend another 15-20 bucks on a game that's like 50 bucks (40 on sale atm, but still) for this. If they did like a season pass kind of deal where it discounts this heavily, maybe that would be worth picking up.
I normally don't have negative comments that I feel like sharing, but this DLC honestly feels really not worth it. I mean, instant action could not be a thing in this game when it is in almost all other MW games (including the last one they worked one)? As is, some of the actual game missions feel like a horde grind already. Have a hard time feeling worth the asking price for what feels like skins and a few new configurations. Oh well, cheers and best of times to those that are enjoying it. I like to support devs to help fund more MW content, but paying for this almost feels like a donation instead.

Perhaps it's simply that he realizes the discrimination the Clans, especially the hard-line clans like the Jaguars have for "freebirths" and just want's to be recognized for his stills. Every kill he gets proves he's capable of standing as high as the "Trueborn" clans IMHO.
i don't think the DLC is worth 15$(with release sale) for 2 new modes, if it was free or max 5$ then maybe. It doesn't fix the problem with replayability of the main game which is linear

Wow. Paying for the ability to do Warzone Missions from Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries is crazy to me. Just do MW5 with the Adjustable Battle Scale mod and crank it up to x5. Have Fun.
This is rather underwhelming for $15. I hope there is a freeborn career mode at some point, and I'm interested in what the 5v5 mode is about. Thanks for the two hours, fun as always.
Bought the game on sale. I've been enjoying the campaign but they really need to get some replayability going. This DLC seems like a $16 addition to the shooting range. No matchmaking for the multiplayer? Yikes. Easy to pass on this one. Hopefully PGI works to add more things worth spending time on in this game. I absolutely love the MW5 Coyote mission tower defense missions. If they did nothing other than copy that mod's one mission I would have bought the DLC. Would love to see a campaign from the IS side, letting us use IS mechs. Would love to see a new game+ mode, letting us keep reseach or mix up the campaign in some way. Would love to see a post campaign mode where we get to use our mechs in some other missions (career mode).
I much prefer the structure of Mercs. I did play through the campaign of Clans and the clan mechs were a nice change, but all it did was make me want to replay Mercs.
Not surprised some people are complaining about a DLC so soon after the base game release but I this DLC could be good for people who just want something to play during the holidays and/or time off from work. Not to mention playing some new game modes with friends too which could make the DLC worth it. Just depends on you want to look at it I guess. Good video Bara. 🙂
I cannot go through horde mode without crashing. That and bafoon teammate AI ignoring my commands and running into the middle of the field to fight and get destroyed. Very frustrating
So were you actually stuck up on the "balcony" unable to get down into the arena proper? Or did you just choose to stay there intentionally? Didn't seem challenging or fun, didn't watch it all the way through.
In 4 I used horde mode to get better at the game. I have not bought this DLC, mainly because I don't see the added value it gives the game for me. These features, horde and PvP, seems like something that should have been in the game from the start. I don't think I would have an issue with buying the extra mechs for some variation, but it feels like a cash grab to charge for a game mode that doesn't really add any replayability to the game.

I got the dlc and got a game soft locking bug in both modes i tried. The horde mode stopped on wave 6 and never moved on. In melee i fell under the map. So, not a good look. But im not poor and i want more, better, content. So whatever

The horde mode random missions in MW5 mercs are so much better. Those are the ones where you have to set up a defensive hold and defend against waves of enemies first to complete the contract, and then bonus c-bills for each additional enemy beyond the minimum. The MW5 mercs version was far more intense with much better risk/reward than this MW5 clans version, which is frankly just boring. I don't understand how they regressed so badly on this one.
2 hours of repetitive gameplay...160 XP 😂 IMO Replaying the campaign's missions for advanced objectives is much more desirable if one wants to continue leveling up their mechs and pilots.
This dlc is complete bs. I purchased every mercs dlc and clans day 1 I wont buy anything from piranha now they are proving to be greedy a holes. You shouldnt buy this crap or make content of it it sends the wrong message to the devs that this bs is ok
bud PGI has been shoveling dog shit since MWO. This should not be remotely surprising. MW5 is only playable with mods. The DLC also felt lacking on release. The fact that Clans is also underwhelming is not surprising at all. I wish they did not have control of the IP and would give it to someone who actually cares. Harebrained Schemes would have been an excellent choice.
Tbh it looks and sounds like Baradul is really trying to like the DLC. Maybe a bit too much. I'm not convinced. Perhaps I was if I got the game/DLC for free? Imho PGI needs to put way more deep thought into the game. As in, 'bigger is better and more is harder' shouldn't be the core principles. There's little variation or surprise, few difficult decisions to make and not much room for creativity or alternate approaches. It feels so linear.

I think my biggest gripe has been that you can't complete the research trees, followed by the severe lack of replayability that this DLC didn't solve.

Trueborn is bugged on launch, it gives the stat buffs to everyone,not just enemies

I'm with some of the other comments unfortunately, not a fan of this mode. Sometimes waiting for a playthrough lets you know what not to buy.
Thought the arena was PvP with matchmaking but it's just co-op - if you have friends who play this game. Pretty bummed about it.

OOF this game died fast. As of Dec 4th 2024 only 445 people playing according to the steam charts. Mercenaries had double that lol
