      Thank you so much for the heads up. I still can't understand how I messed up so badly and then sat and edited it! I even went and checked two other lynxes that I practiced on before shooting this one and I'd done those correctly. I live in terror of leading people astray and you saved my bacon!

      @@MarkFixesStuff What was the mistake? I watched the original version all the way through but I guess I must have missed it.

      I desoldered and replaced the entirely wrong component.

      In my defence it was directly next to it and I was working around the camera... and drunk.

      @@MarkFixesStuff Oh, and it was a teeny tiny component that looked very similar to another teeny tiny component a few millimeters away, just different colour.

    Would love to have seen som pre diagnosis. Mesure voltages at the power jack moss fet etc. Also what was your hot air set at temp/rate? Thanks

    Great video. I hate flux, it's irritating, and it gets everywhere! I love IPA though, so I love cleaning up after.
    Have you got a small flow tip for your iron? I like to dab a little solder into the well and then use that to solder anything smaller then an 0603. You can hold the component in place with your other hand rather than trying to juggle the comp, solder and iron.

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t have one of those drag solder tips at the moment, but I think I’ll order one now you have mentioned it. In the past I’ve just used a lot of flux, solder paste and a board heater/hot air combo. It works well but I saw Stephen Leary (TerribleFire) using the tip you mentioned and like the look of it. Cheers!!!

    Thank you so much for this video. I had some confusion as I had ordered my voltage regulator kit from console5 and it came with two Zener Diodes for lynx I and II. Theirs for the Lynx II doesn't have the through-hole style ends, while the Lynx I zener diode does. So it's the opposite, for anyone else looking...

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it depends on the kit you get. This is great info. Thanks for taking the time to share :)

    Is it possible to do this without a hot air gun? All I have is my soldering station.

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but use a small tip and done't force it because it's easy to destroy the solder pads.

    How to confirm the components, especially transistors, are bad to avoid shotgun approach?

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not easily without removing them anyway. You can check for 5v, but the real reason for changing them is that the new parts are better and more resilient than the original parts.
