Treblaine, this is Remo Williams. Chiun trained him to be able to see bullets like they were rocks being thrown at him. He hears the tendons tightening before the trigger is pulled. Even if someone had a gun pointed right at his face an inch away he could still dodge it. Don't try to use your silly physics here. He's Remo.
Ah dude, you cut off the part where Remo makes a twig catch on fire just by rubbing it between his two fingers, which he then tosses at the guy that he threw behind the car which then explodes.
@thehmph1 After the scene was cut he picks up a twig, lights in on fire with his bare fingers, and throws it on the gas tank of the jeep, killing the man. He was sent there to kill him and make it look like an accident.
Fred Ward is like the last of the pulp heroes. He'd have been a bigger star in the era of guys like Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson, guys who weren't pretty and had character. Ward came along about ten or twenty years too late. Still glad he was around.
You dodge before the bullet is fired, not after. Not that my life is bad enough to where I need to actively dodge bullets, but it's technically possible to get out of the way of them, provided they have human operators.
That's funny! I liked the part where you said 'F-you, I can dodge bullets'. I know what you mean, Chiun and Remo make this movie look neat with there ability to dodge ammo...the best part was Remo taking the gun away and taking out the rest of the bullets.
@Treblaine Earlier in the movie the made a point about the fact that he didn't learn to dodge bullets, he learned to judge a man's trigger finger tensing. So that way he would dodge just AS the bullet was fired. He didn't have to be faster than a bullet, just faster than his opponents aim.
@Treblaine The point in the movie, and the books, is that Remo is not dodging the bullet the instant it is fired. He begins to dodge as soon as he sees the shooter tense, hears the gun start to operate, etc. He's reading their muscle movement like Vamp from MGS2. Still fiction, but slightly more plausible.
"Who are you?" "Oh, do I have to? Some call me the Mayflower of love- Vash the Stampede!" .... >->;;;; I think I've been watching too much anime... But it was so totally a Vash moment! (people: what are you doing here?) Enjoying fighting scenes?
If you saw the movie, the story is not that he moves faster than the bullet. It's that he moves faster than the shooter. He's moving to dodge just before the trigger is pulled. That makes it closer to plausible but still not really doable.
@Treblaine .45 bullet has a muzzle velocity around 850 fps. Feet, not meters. At 750m/s (well, didn't do the math to figure out the exact velocity) but it would be traveling at nearly 3 times the speed. lol Also, I thought it was clear in the movie that he was actually supposed to be dodging the aim of the shooter. He moves out of the line of fire before the shooter pulls the trigger. Either way, It's one of my favorite movies.
Seen this movie as a kid. Always loved those bullet dodge scenes. Couldn't remember what this movie was called so i googled: "Bullet dodging running wet cement statue of liberty 80s movie" Geez the stuff i had to type to find the name. lol
@Treblaine, according to the story, he does not dodge the moving bullet. He dodges when he sees a small movement of the finger on the trigger. A bad shooter (aimer) may actually hit him.
I think he mostly played bad guys after this. I remember seeing him other movies, but always as a bad dude. Too bad too. He was great in this film. I always wondered when the sequel was going to be.
@tommyt1971 Turns out an *eight* round magazine is what I had in mind. Still, a nine round magazine isn't exactly impossible, plus you can always carry an extra round in the chamber. Ah, well, one shouldn't look towards movies for facts :P.
omg there r vids for everything on youtube (this is an awsome movie btw) i saw this movie a couple days ago on demand and i wondered if there would be somthing on youtube and here it is
A bullet dodge can be done, watching the movement of the shooters hand, watching the shooters hand grip the gun tighter as the trigger is pulled will probably give you a 1 to 2 second advantage
@Treblaine In the movie they explain that Sinanju teaches you to move BEFORE the trigger is pulled. But then again.......its just a freakin movie dude....lighten up....
Whoa! I made a MAJOR MISCALCULATION! a .45 pistol bullet goes at least 750 FEET/sec, that's 250 Metres/sec! So a .45 bullet actually takes about 0.144 of a second to reach him (if 36m away). Though best POSSIBLE human reaction is still 0.16sec, the nerve impulse'd be sent the moment he gets hit. But since Remo Williams is such a badass, lets say he can read his enemy like an open book and can tell the precise moment he'll fire. It's Humanly Possible to move out'a the way in 1/7th sec.
"Why do they call him the bullet dodger tony, because he dodges bullets Avi?" quote taken from the Guy Rithie Madonnas ex husbands movie "SNATCH" thought it would be quite aporopriate dont you think youtubers LOL
well they missed the next part, where he holds a twig, lights it on fire by rubbing it with his thumb, tosses it on the floor at a trail of fuel, then the car blows up (with that guy inside). So yah, they stopped it early so it looks a bit lame.
Yep, Jay something or other. A jewish fellow. He was a ballet dude if I recall the story. Always wondered how the old guy could move the way he did. Had me totally convinced he was Korean and did a great job. Fricken great movie.
It would require muscles tuned to a razors edge plus an extraordinary amount of intuitiona nd the ability to speed read body language. But how does an ancient martial art like sinanju contain techniques to dodge bullets since bullets are a fairly recent weapon.
Slowest .45 bullet = 750m/s Lets assume you can dodge at 25mph = ~12m/s Reaction time = 0.16 of a second distance= ~36m .45 time to target = 0.048 second time to dodge 1 foot = 0.025 second So physically he could actually move in time to dodge but in reality it would be impossible as his reaction time would be too slow, the bullet would hit him in 1/3 the time it would take for him to realise to move. But if could anticipate the moment he fires to the millisecond... it MIGHT be possible.
@foiblebear Hmm, damn, I always sucked at acceleration graphs. But a quick jot shows even if the muscles COULD move that quick the limit seems to be the maximum acceleration the cranium can sustain before you knock yourself out or sustain sever brain damage. Then of course, once you dodge the bullet you are now travelling through the air at 25 miles and hour, bit like hopping out a car at that speed. Fuck. Dodging a bullet is hard. Remo is a badass.
Nicolas Cage "Next" ripped this scene. "Wanted" ripped this whole movie, and got away with it because of Angelina Jolie (overrated, btw). And yeah, "the Matrix" pretty much ripped this movie too.
it's obvious u cant dodge a bullet, even a subsonic one coming from handguns...BUT the time between the gunner pointing the gun and actually pulling the trigger is roughly equal to the "dodger's" reaction time...so it possible to anticipate the spot that he is aiming and it has been done in real life (try to fine a point blank shootout with a tree inbetween:P) but apparently you have to be also extremely lucky..
He's Remo.
That little spin he does is just perfect.
I remember the sensei was from Korea. After a car crash he said something like "In Korea we manufacture better cars". I want to see this movie again!
This was a great movie! I wish that they had made a part 2!
I never knew Fred Ward was Remo!!
That's well funny.
Fred Ward is like the last of the pulp heroes. He'd have been a bigger star in the era of guys like Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson, guys who weren't pretty and had character. Ward came along about ten or twenty years too late. Still glad he was around.
Asbo Quality! The Remo swivel is legendary!
If it wasn't for Remo Williams , there wouldn't be a Matrix ( =
You dodge before the bullet is fired, not after. Not that my life is bad enough to where I need to actively dodge bullets, but it's technically possible to get out of the way of them, provided they have human operators.
+Warkupo You just have to watch the flex of the metacarpal muscles. ^.^
@@arveranteos6829 just what I was about to say 😁
"Before there was Neo there was Remo" LOL fuckin' classic!
That's funny! I liked the part where you said 'F-you, I can dodge bullets'. I know what you mean, Chiun and Remo make this movie look neat with there ability to dodge ammo...the best part was Remo taking the gun away and taking out the rest of the bullets.

I saw this movie once...
his sensei run on water in the end, right???
that was kick ass
@Treblaine
The point in the movie, and the books, is that Remo is not dodging the bullet the instant it is fired. He begins to dodge as soon as he sees the shooter tense, hears the gun start to operate, etc. He's reading their muscle movement like Vamp from MGS2.

BEST... MOVIE.... EVER!
EVER EVER EVER!!!
:)
(really, I'm not joking - my all time favorite)
I don't think it's cheesy. It's epic. Old school for sure, but epic nonetheless.
He moves like they do.
Ah, I love this movie! Forget Neo, Remo could kick his monotone arse straight out of video-game world! Remo Williams rules all!
AGREED!!
this movie ROCKS
Chiun: "Two bullets, meer child's play. When you can dodge six you will have achieved something greater."
HE FUCKING SPINS HIS WAY PAST BULLETS!
@au4040 this may be a movie, but the real Remo Williams really can dodge bullets!
Let's see here...Basic Speed 8, Combat Reflexes, Enhanced Dodge 5...
hey there i found the full clip.
Search on youtube for
"Kate Mulgrew in Remo Williams"
it has the full clip! nice.
In my proffessional capacity as a black belt I can say with certainty that that man ... is pretty awesome.
"Who are you?"
"Oh, do I have to? Some call me the Mayflower of love- Vash the Stampede!"
....
>->;;;; I think I've been watching too much anime... But it was so totally a Vash moment!
(people: what are you doing here?)

Kjile just a movie, I watched this movie back in high school in the 80;s, Remo williams rocks,i have the oringal on on my beta machine lol
HA! that was the greatest ...THE ADVENTURE BEGINS!
I appreciate the compliment.
Remo isn't dodge the bullets. He is reacting of the tiny spasms from his opponent, just before he is firing his gun.
Few bits in there were like Kath's disco dancing in the Australian comedy Kath and Kim...
Yes, reminded too much of Vamp scene in MGS2. You were not the only one to find the similarities.
this is only possible if the guy can predict when the shooter will pull the trigger by the shooters muscle movement
Actually you should say, before Deacon Frost came Remo.
@Treblaine, according to the story, he does not dodge the moving bullet. He dodges when he sees a small movement of the finger on the trigger. A bad shooter (aimer) may actually hit him.
i loved this movie when i was the kid, impressing skills, not as impressing as running on water though
You just have to run really fast
This scene reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 2 where Vamp eliminates the team of SEALs.
I think he mostly played bad guys after this. I remember seeing him other movies, but always as a bad dude. Too bad too. He was great in this film. I always wondered when the sequel was going to be.
@Treblaine Buddy where do you get these calculations?
@tommyt1971
Turns out an *eight* round magazine is what I had in mind. Still, a nine round magazine isn't exactly impossible, plus you can always carry an extra round in the chamber.
Ah, well, one shouldn't look towards movies for facts :P.
@Ragitsu Would they have been available in 1985 tho? Not sure myself...
omg there r vids for everything on youtube
(this is an awsome movie btw)
i saw this movie a couple days ago on demand and i wondered if there would be somthing on youtube and here it is
@Treblaine Have you watched the full show? He learned to anticipate it.
Classic 80s. Cheesy to the max.
Bad Guy: "LAG!"
This looks like the inspiration of Vamp in Metal Gear Solid, he does the same exact thing!
He would have gotten a medal if he could actually hit the slippery bastard.
A bullet dodge can be done, watching the movement of the shooters hand, watching the shooters hand grip the gun tighter as the trigger is pulled will probably give you a 1 to 2 second advantage
Dark Knight Smark Knight. That's the kind of movie that makes $500 in 18 days!
ahahah classic remo move
Shooting at targets in Uncharted 3 co-op is a lot like this. Seriously.
Thank Jesus for Remo erasing gatling guns.
@tommyt1971
There are nine round magazines available.
i loved this movie when it came out...and predicted FRED WARD would be a huge star...what happened ???
@Treblaine In the movie they explain that Sinanju teaches you to move BEFORE the trigger is pulled. But then again.......its just a freakin movie dude....lighten up....
Haha, the best! Apparently, they took Remo out of retirement and sent him to take out Osama Binladin.
Whoa! I made a MAJOR MISCALCULATION!
a .45 pistol bullet goes at least 750 FEET/sec, that's 250 Metres/sec!

that's like wesker from resident evil
lawl someone put some thriller music in this xD
glad I wasn't the only one! :)
Yay albert wesker in real life
The dodging likely doesn't work with full auto weapons. Yes, I know its a movie and one can't do it anyway.
EVASION AND DISMANTLE?!?!?!?!
"Why do they call him the bullet dodger tony, because he dodges bullets Avi?" quote taken from the Guy Rithie Madonnas ex husbands movie "SNATCH" thought it would be quite aporopriate dont you think youtubers LOL
@Treblaine Except some people have had recorded reflex times of 0.05 seconds.
@robg3176 It was a fire team really, Remo, Rambo, Jet Li and Chuck Norris as squad commander.
dude, he was there to chew bubble gum and kick some ass, and remo was all outta bubble gum, can anyone say matrix? haha.
LMAO.
Remo Williams owns Chuck Norris.
I'm bigdawness williams...
well they missed the next part, where he holds a twig, lights it on fire by rubbing it with his thumb, tosses it on the floor at a trail of fuel, then the car blows up (with that guy inside).
So yah, they stopped it early so it looks a bit lame.
Lol @ that spin move...
RIP Fred
I named my Chihuahua after him.
You should have named him Chiun. LOL
I read the " Destroyer " series of books a long time ago. I do not know if they are still available, but they are far better than this movie.
'In Korea...door handles do not break.' Is that what you mean?
I tried this at home but didn't get it quite right.
@Treblaine
It's all in the body language.
Yep, Jay something or other. A jewish fellow. He was a ballet dude if I recall the story. Always wondered how the old guy could move the way he did. Had me totally convinced he was Korean and did a great job. Fricken great movie.

Slowest .45 bullet = 750m/s
Lets assume you can dodge at 25mph = ~12m/s
Reaction time = 0.16 of a second
distance= ~36m
.45 time to target = 0.048 second
time to dodge 1 foot = 0.025 second

Fuck.
Dodging a bullet is hard.
Remo is a badass.
Splendid comment! :D
@velveetaslingshot maths like that IS light stuff, for me at least
@AmericanPoliceState Yes! The original Delta Force.
@Treblaine I'm pretty sure that Bruce Lee could move that fast, maybe not to dodge a bullet but for performance, & awesomness.
What training?
has anyone ever tried the bullet dodge? I tried the other day with some friends. I wasnt fast enough. Now i only have one leg.
oh be nice
Too bad they never captured (on film) the Remo Williams from the series...this was a cute movie but not even close to the books
Neo never was
Nicolas Cage "Next" ripped this scene.
"Wanted" ripped this whole movie, and got away with it because of Angelina Jolie (overrated, btw).
And yeah, "the Matrix" pretty much ripped this movie too.
@Spectonimous He would have had a better chance with an AK-47. Let's see Remo dodge that!
it's obvious u cant dodge a bullet, even a subsonic one coming from handguns...BUT the time between the gunner pointing the gun and actually pulling the trigger is roughly equal to the "dodger's" reaction time...so it possible to anticipate the spot that he is aiming and it has been done in real life (try to fine a point blank shootout with a tree inbetween:P) but apparently you have to be also extremely lucky..
addition, it is clip 7/7
hahah i thought he was going to do something properly amazing at the end but he just threw that guy over a car lol
