Also the ad made it look very weird so when I commented I more so meant the art made it look like something not dark.

This reminds me of the inverse armor effect. How wonderful it is. In case you haven’t heard of it, it’s that strange occurrence that happens in some fighting games like World of Warcraft or something like that where the stronger a women’s piece of armor is, the less it actually covers her body. I understand where it comes from: People like to make their characters look more aesthetically pleasing without ruining their chance of actually winning the game. Still, it’s really awkward when it seems like the artists only cover as much skin as they need to get that good ESRB rating.
I really like this idea, and the different directions you took, especially with the first couple- the first redux retains the energy and softness of the original, but with your ideas and improvements, and the second one goes for wildly different visual approach, but it makes it so much better and more interesting! And less creepy lol. About the girl on the battlefield though, especially since you're asking for crit, I think you ran into the 'ugly stage' of painting- which is kinda the worst, so I feel you. I really like the colors and mood you had at 8:04, The bright colors and the lineless shadows and highlights really pop! And the yellow and blue strokes add a lot of depth of field, even if they're abstract, if that makes sense. I think you should have pushed through it, maybe bringing the linework up to the top layer to figure out how to add more detail or adjust proportions, rework the expression, etc, to bring it to where you wanted it. By basically starting over, you were already frustrated and tired, and it seems like you ran into a new ugly stage without the time to improve on that one either. The linework in the face really gives a more pained expression, but the colors are muddier and the image seems more flat.I think if you had more time, or stepped away and came back with fresh eyes, you could have found a good marriage between the two. I don't know what your workflow is like, but I know for me, working on multiple images, or stepping back, helps me see the issues I have with my work easier. The last one, I like your take but I would've done things differently myself, is all. :) I probably would have leaned more into the throwing it back lol, while fixing the crazy proportional issues you tackled. Also, I dig the purple, so I'm biased. XD Anyways, I know this is a long comment, but hopefully it's helpful from one artist to another. I love watching your stuff! Thanks for thinking about the art people don't always see as 'art.' and playing around with it in cool ways!

Eh, this is more an issue with incest being portrayed in a 'good' light more than the fact it's gay, that kinda thing is everywhere unfortunately and it's a bit weird that you're singling out the fact they're gay more so than the actual issue at hand.

LondonTF I was half joking, but yes when I think of the boy it would be quite scary and dark and if he accidentally tells that to the wrong person say like a school mate, it could get out and he'd probably be very harshly criticized and so to him it would be very dark/heavy. . . so basically what you said.
Also the ad made it look very weird so when I commented I more so meant the art made it look like something not dark.

This reminds me of the inverse armor effect. How wonderful it is.
In case you haven’t heard of it, it’s that strange occurrence that happens in some fighting games like World of Warcraft or something like that where the stronger a women’s piece of armor is, the less it actually covers her body. I understand where it comes from: People like to make their characters look more aesthetically pleasing without ruining their chance of actually winning the game. Still, it’s really awkward when it seems like the artists only cover as much skin as they need to get that good ESRB rating.

I really like this idea, and the different directions you took, especially with the first couple- the first redux retains the energy and softness of the original, but with your ideas and improvements, and the second one goes for wildly different visual approach, but it makes it so much better and more interesting! And less creepy lol.
About the girl on the battlefield though, especially since you're asking for crit, I think you ran into the 'ugly stage' of painting- which is kinda the worst, so I feel you. I really like the colors and mood you had at 8:04, The bright colors and the lineless shadows and highlights really pop! And the yellow and blue strokes add a lot of depth of field, even if they're abstract, if that makes sense. I think you should have pushed through it, maybe bringing the linework up to the top layer to figure out how to add more detail or adjust proportions, rework the expression, etc, to bring it to where you wanted it. By basically starting over, you were already frustrated and tired, and it seems like you ran into a new ugly stage without the time to improve on that one either. The linework in the face really gives a more pained expression, but the colors are muddier and the image seems more flat.I think if you had more time, or stepped away and came back with fresh eyes, you could have found a good marriage between the two. I don't know what your workflow is like, but I know for me, working on multiple images, or stepping back, helps me see the issues I have with my work easier.
The last one, I like your take but I would've done things differently myself, is all. :) I probably would have leaned more into the throwing it back lol, while fixing the crazy proportional issues you tackled. Also, I dig the purple, so I'm biased. XD
Anyways, I know this is a long comment, but hopefully it's helpful from one artist to another. I love watching your stuff! Thanks for thinking about the art people don't always see as 'art.' and playing around with it in cool ways!
