G'day Folks - Hope you enjoyed that walk around of my old mans XW GT! It really is a ripping car but there are still a couple of things on it that give me the Sh1ts! Let us know if you agree! Cheers!
Shes a gem of a gt. Good point about having a genuine one and not being able to modify it, Im glad mines just a futura so I do whatever the heck I want with it.
Cheers mate! Agree, It’s nice to know that you can chop and change your car without it ruining it’s pedigree. Just like your Futura, I’m lucky my Fairmont is just a Fairmont! Cheers!
Hey awesome video buddy! That thing is a peach and you're right... you can't do much to it on account of its originality. I suppose as long as original parts are never sold and you're not cutting into it anywhere, it probably doesn't matter. I would probably stooge a few purists if it was my car... "Yeah the seats don't have enough support, so I'll piss them off and fit these Corolla ones" haha. I actually love the sound of the Windsors... I took mine out last weekend and gave it some beans, brilliant. Take care mate!!
G'day Peter! Cheers mate - It is just as good in person! Mate I am wrapped you finally took yours out and gave it a boot full!! I reckon your XW would trigger a few 'purists' with the little XY details on it - let alone corolla seats...or an LS swap haha! Actually - I shot you an email a little while ago - maybe check your junk mail, would be good to compare XW's in the flesh! Cheers - Marc!
Nice car that one, just looks like a real Grandpa GT to me, I mean that as a compliment :) You nailed it on the originality thing though, you just couldn't bring yourself to tinker with an original any more. One thing I don't mind about having a faker is I never worry about tinkering with it, not because of the value as I couldn't care less about that but just the fact it's so far from factory it doesn't really matter any more. Side note: My XW was actually a lime frost Fairmont like yours originally, factory 302 but now has a 351 and is a silver fox replica with some personal touches :)
G'dqy Sam! Hehe agree! I was supposed to say it was a 'Gentleman's GT', but old man's GT just came out haha! Agree - I can see the appeal of having a faker for that reason. As much as a lime frost fairmont is cool - a silver fox takes the cake!! Very nice colour combo choice mate! Cheers!
Cheers Mark! This was Paul's old car he bought just before he retired if you remember? It really is a beautiful car. Makes my XW look rather tatty in comparison. I don't think ill ever convince my old man to lower it though..Cheers!
A real pointer is if you lift the boot, and the little chrome strips at the top of the tail lights have a screw through them going into the body of the boot they are genuine. The other is if you raise the bonnet and look above where the chrome bonnet strip protrudes through the bonnet has dome nuts fixing it to the inside of the bonnet. Those are just two tips to see if the chrome is original on your Dads car.
Great video ballsy the xw gt is the best looking gt of them all imo and maybe because I have 1 but the ride height is a bit higher than factory so it wouldn’t hurt to drop it an inch or so and wound make for a great video, keep up the good work legend
G'day SMP! Agree mate - there are a lot of little details on the XW which I reckon make it a better looker than its more famed younger sibling the XY! I'd love to see a 1 inch drop all round, just need to convince the old man to do it....which is very unlikely haha! Cheers - Marc
G'day Graham! Yep those screws are bloody annoying (and seem to annoy everyone that looks at it!) Mind you, back In Cambodia, if a car has 4 matching door trims (and they are vaguely attached to the doors) - no one would bat an eyelid! Cheers mate!
G'day Peter - Glad you enjoyed the video mate! Agree this car in particular has more of a classic car vibe than all out muscle/race car. Regardless, it's a good thing! Have you ever had any old XW/XY Falcons in the past? Cheers! Marc
Cheers mate! It’s easy to keep mint given it sits in the shed most of its life! The screws are bloody annoying, but easy to ignore when you cruising and get stuck out of gear!
Hey mate can you show a video of the boot in the xw gt maybe highlighting the boot light and where the wires run to light the globe up thats in the boot. Cheers and love your videos
Great example! All mint to my eyes. Just those damn screws in the door cards. Maybe they couldn't get the cards to sit in position properly. But at least that's all that needs fixing. It could have been worse! The rest is perfect! Don't do mods to it in my opinion. Thanks for sharing with us!😎
G'day Mr GT! Cheers mate - Yeah we reckon the same thing with the screws, that maybe it was an alignment thing or they didn't have the clips..or it was done in the 70s when these were a dime a dozen and no one gave a shi1t! Yep this one will stay stock - Im glad I can play my Fairmont, no one seems to care that it's not matching numbers haha! Cheers mate! Marc
G'day Wayne! Yeah agree mate. Reckon when it warms up I might take it into one of the GT places in Melbourne (Grand Tourer, GT Shop etc.) and get em to eyeball it. All the springs and shocks have all the right markings/original colors etc. but every other GT i have seen sits way lower! Might have to figure out a way to drop it down on the ground without my old man noticing! Cheers for watching and hope you enjoyed it mate!
G'day Rob! Spot on mate - as much as the original ones are nice, I'd much rather have something I can play with. Which is why the GT prob only gets driven once or twice a year! The Benzo is going well! Clocked up 12 months with it so have a 1 year cost of ownership vid in the works! Keep your XW Updates coming along too mate!! Cheers - Marc
Haha G'day Jeff!! It's awesome that the clock in this thing actually works - just got to remember to disconnect the battery if she is gunna sit for a while - been caught out a few times by that bloody thing haha! Cheers mate - thanks for watching!
Despite what people say the windsor motor is better then the cleveland. The best xwgt ho phase 1 has the best throttle response of all the gt,s ever made and by a distance
G'day mate - Yeah i remember you saying on a comment on another video that your old phase 1 Windsor had a bit of poke. You know what, I reckon I know more blokes that are fans of the Windsor than Clevo - certainly in my circles anyway. Hard to compare like for like these days as all many of these engines floating about have had some mild work done
Mate don’t agree A Family member has a Windsor HO driven it a fair few times My Clevo eats it the HO has a set of pacemakers on it that is it. Beautiful Car worth a large amount but for Me I think the Cleveland is a better Engine. Also in the day they did not get slower at Bathurst 69 to 70 or 71 still series production the times were a lot different, Bathurst where those big port heads come into there own cheers Mick.
I dont know what your clevo is but in stock form the phase 1 does have the best throttle response.I was lucky enough to own and drive many of them this is not an opinion
Mr Porsche both great Engines I would take both, the thing I like about the Cleveland Engine is no coolant in the Manifold, Canted valves, lots of performance parts and that is for both Windsor and Cleveland Engines.I have a few of them Standard and a Hi performance 408ci stroker with a lot of work done Beautiful thing but that is comparing apples and oranges cheers Mick.
Fair Dinkum!!! hahaha Hola Amigo, from San Jose, California! I have a 1965 Comet Caliente Convertible with a BOSS 302(originally a 289) She is now a resto mod. I originally bought her 22 years ago, then hired my uncle to restore after a bad accident and engine issues. he didn't get to finish the restoration cause he fell ill now I'm trying my best to do all the work and not take it to a mechanic. She's having overheating issues & i'm thinking i need to replace the water pump(or at least take a look at the condition of it) and the radiator. I appreciate your content mate, keep it up! Oh the screws in the doors of the Falcon were hard to look at. Yuck! I wanted to start a channel about my car but I'm not a pro mechanic, I'm more of a watch a YT video 3 times then fuck around and find out mechanic! 😎 🤣
G'day Paul! Mate all the way from the west coast of the U S of A! Thanks for stopping by and love what you are doing with the Caliente - nothing like having a crack yourself. It can be frustrating at times but so bloody rewarding when you get things right and make progress! Bloody power to ya mate! Absolutely have a go at documenting your progress too on youtube, you don't need to be a pro at this either! I mean geez take a look at my first vid - pretty cringe, and I think we share the same philosophy when it comes to working on cars too 😁😁!! I think you are on the right track with the overheating - have a look at my overheating vid there might be a few tips there that you can take as well. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy our videos here too! P.S yep I hate those bloody screws, ruined perfectly good original door trims!!!
I used to own an XY gt in this colour…. Biggest mistake I ever made selling her … You can get the original radio gutted and modern am/ fm guys put in … Bluetooth as well Looks totally stock I’ve had my xw Fairmont done
G'day mate - geez that would have been a very nice XY GT in that colour, very rare! I have seen those Bluetooth units - they look good! I was thinking about getting one done for my Fairmont too but went with a Pioneer unit instead. I dare say my old man will get this radio repaired, he likes to keep things original. Cheers mate!
Yes great car, but as you said it needs a bit more go so pull out that old Windsor and fit an LS to it. Probably go auto as well cause as you said its an old mans car, with those screws in the door trims - just pull out the whole interior , get some descent hi-back front seats and re-trim he interior to suit. While your going fit some new modern style wheels, those old ones are so 1970's. Fix the styling and go for a later model grill with some new reflector geometry LED driving lights, gezz while were at it fix that old paint scheme, a nice deep fluro colour - yer now were getting somewhere, VE commodore dash (matched to the LS V8) with cruse control and climate AC. Gezzz it would be worth some money then.😂😂😂😂
Hahahaha!! Geez this would make for a nice restomod - if only it could run on the tears of the purists it would upset, I'd be half tempted!! When is that Beemer going to hit the dirt??!!!??
G'day Peter - Agree mate! This car will stay as is whilst it's in my hands however agree that rear ride height leaves a bit to be desired. If I (or even my old man) drove the car more we would probably address it. Currently it's covered in dusty car covers! Need to take it out for a burn during summer! Cheers and thanks for watching!
G’day Gary! Only the XY GTHOs had rear wings from factory. Or, you could get them dealer fitted. I don’t think they were ever available on the XW though. This car has the front spoiler from an XW GTHO fitted, not sure if i like it or not to be honest.. Cheers
Ah if you see em side by side this one is more reddy where as bronze wine has a bit more brown in it. Also thought Bronze Wine was an XY Colour only? Both pretty amazing in the flesh either way! Cheers!!
Ah the big ID tags above the firewall that everyone is familiar with only started in 1970 from memory. My ‘70 Fairmont has one. The 69 cars only had a little tag on the radiator support like this one. But correct, lots of blokes remove the tags - which inevitably leads to a lot of ‘is it real/fake’ arguments at car shows!!
No drugs here - Car left the factory with an FMX. At some stage during its life or when it was restored, it was converted to a Top Loader. Although it takes away from the cars originality, its way better to experience a GT with a Top Loader!
G'day Folks - Hope you enjoyed that walk around of my old mans XW GT! It really is a ripping car but there are still a couple of things on it that give me the Sh1ts! Let us know if you agree!
Cheers!

Agree - I can see the appeal of having a faker for that reason.
As much as a lime frost fairmont is cool - a silver fox takes the cake!! Very nice colour combo choice mate!
Cheers!
Beautiful example Marc. I love the colour. Agree it sits a little high.
Cheers Mark! This was Paul's old car he bought just before he retired if you remember? It really is a beautiful car. Makes my XW look rather tatty in comparison. I don't think ill ever convince my old man to lower it though..Cheers!
@@MeatballGarage Ah yes. I remember that. Maybe a couple bags of cement in the back? 😀
:D I'll give that a crack!!
A real pointer is if you lift the boot, and the little chrome strips at the top of the tail lights have a screw through them going into the body of the boot they are genuine. Nice tips Steve - Next time i'm out there i'll take a sticky beak!
Great video ballsy the xw gt is the best looking gt of them all imo and maybe because I have 1 but the ride height is a bit higher than factory so it wouldn’t hurt to drop it an inch or so and wound make for a great video, keep up the good work legend

Such a beautiful car. I'd have to get the door trims redone it would drive me crazy looking at those screws
G'day Graham! Yep those screws are bloody annoying (and seem to annoy everyone that looks at it!) Mind you, back In Cambodia, if a car has 4 matching door trims (and they are vaguely attached to the doors) - no one would bat an eyelid! Cheers mate!
Do a video on the boot opened and the engine bay of this sexy car please mate ?
I enjoyed your report and agree with everything you said. I wish I owned an original Xw GT. It is a classic car not racey but authentic. 👍
G'day Peter - Glad you enjoyed the video mate! Agree this car in particular has more of a classic car vibe than all out muscle/race car. Regardless, it's a good thing!
Have you ever had any old XW/XY Falcons in the past?
Cheers!
Marc
That car is looking mint! 👌 Glad its kept in great condition.... minus the screws in the leather.
Hey Mate - can you shoot me an email to the address in the description? I'll happily send you some close up pics if that works for you?
Great example! All mint to my eyes. Just those damn screws in the door cards. Maybe they couldn't get the cards to sit in position properly. But at least that's all that needs fixing. It could have been worse! The rest is perfect! Don't do mods to it in my opinion. Thanks for sharing with us!😎

It certainly does look to high, there must be specs somewhere that can establish of it’s a problem
Nice one mate. Pretty cool to see a genuine GT. Best thing is that you have another XW to drive without any limitations on mods. How's that Benz?
Beautiful car
Cheers mate! It is a stunner in the flesh! Thanks for watching and the comment 👍👍
... a working clock that drains the battery ...priceless !
Haha G'day Jeff!! It's awesome that the clock in this thing actually works - just got to remember to disconnect the battery if she is gunna sit for a while - been caught out a few times by that bloody thing haha!
Cheers mate - thanks for watching!
If I had this car in my life I don't think I'd be able to ask for much more. Maybe black Venetians 🤔😋
G'day mate - yep she is a pretty special car! But geez reckon you are on the money with the black venetians...might have to pick some up!!
Cheers!
Despite what people say the windsor motor is better then the cleveland. The best xwgt ho phase 1 has the best throttle response of all the gt,s ever made and by a distance

The 4v heads in the cleveland is the problem. They are not good for the street. Down low they are beyond shit everybody knows this cmon

Definately an old man's GT, leave it as is,but investigate the rear ride height. You certainly need to be it's custodian not butcher

It looks more like Bronze Wine to me (?)
Ah if you see em side by side this one is more reddy where as bronze wine has a bit more brown in it. Also thought Bronze Wine was an XY Colour only? Both pretty amazing in the flesh either way!
Cheers!!
Painted a Fairmont in bronze wine 80s that was an XY, there was a nice purple called mulberry wine that paint job was XB both colours from the Id tags
There is no ID Tag on it.
1969 car mate - Small tag on the rad support
Not uncommon for them to be removed to prevent theft.
Its a 4 speed toploader manual not an fmx auto. Are you on drugs
No drugs here - Car left the factory with an FMX. At some stage during its life or when it was restored, it was converted to a Top Loader. Although it takes away from the cars originality, its way better to experience a GT with a Top Loader!
Nice XW GT a Classic indeed ..
Thanks Sam! Cheers for watching mate!
