- Upcoming FreeCad Ver 0.22 and Ondsel have much improved "in built" Assembly Workbench. This allow easier intuitive approach to assembly joints with out local coordinates systems. Ondsel already has this Assembly Workbench in it's standard workbench package.
This Slider Crank Mechanism was created using FreeCAD Ver 0.22.
This allow dynamically move/rotate the Slider Crank in the workspace to evaluate the assembly kinematics.

Very interesting to know that FreeCAD's assembly is here closer the mechanical principle connection that we learn in school. Using the last stable release I was wondering why FreeCAD uses local systems and not like Inventor or SolidWorks the connections with freedom degrees ! So with this tutorial you brought the answer. Thank you. 👍
Yes, current released FreeCad version is still using very old school LCS approach which is a real hassle. Watch some of my previous FreeCad assembly videos and you will understand. With FreeCad ver 22 things going to improve.
Where can I try Assembly Workbench ? I try only A2plus, Assembly 3 and Assembly 4. Tank You.
Sorry. I have seen only now it is on Freecad 0.22. Bye
I cannot move (drag) a part in the assembly with the left mouse button to spread parts of each other. Can you give a solution to slide a part as you do ? Thank you
Have you activated the assembly... that may be the problem... Watch my videos carefully. If the assembly is not activated... then click on it again to activate. Hope this help.
@@cadzis673 The reason is we have to move the parts in two steps, the first one is to move it under the file of the assembly and move once again this time under the Assembly node. And I forgot the second and last step. 😆
