I put a Boyds laminated thumbhole stock on a Mark II FV-SR with a 3-9x40 Tasco scope. This gun is a tackdriver and has shot all ammo brands fairly well although some brands are a bit better. Not enough difference on brands to single one out and I have tried them all. It does like high velocity ammo. I have several semi auto 22's so that is all I buy anyways. I picked up a couple of extra clips as they are a bit chinsey. I love this gun and have around $450 in it with gun, custom stock, scope and sling. This is a short bull barrel and is floated which is why it shoots so accurately.
in answer to your question, "what am I looking for in a .22"....yes. I love the cartridge. I like to hunt with a 22lr. I like to target shoot and plink as well. I have a variety of handguns and rifles in .22 and, yes, I'm thinking of picking up a savage mark II fv-sr. Right now my reach out there gun is an older 10/22 with a shooters ridge bull bbl and a hogue stock. It is a fairly accurate setup. I do like a good bolt gun though.
For me 22 is plinking and target. Can’t have a suppressor here in Cali but doesn’t mean I can’t borrow one when I shot out of state. Lots of manufacturers make chassis now. Looks fun
@@GearsofGuns I would probably keep the stock on it for a plinker but I also like style 😅. Where abouts is the Fam? Southern, Mid, Northern? I’m in the southern of California.
Savage’s typical package- good trigger, good accuracy, trash magazines, and poorly functioning action. It’s a burner gun- one you can use and get cheap, but it’s not something that’s going to be a family heirloom.
I have had mine for well over ten yrs and it loves Norma .22lr cost $185 plus tax at the time. Butt ugly but boy can they shoot and you are right about the magazines, over time they get loose as hell, the whole body which is why I always keep spares around. Damn good critter getter. Woodchucks and raccoons hate this rifle to death , their deaths.
The mags for this rifle suck. If you have this rifle, clean your rounds before you shoot them. Youll be able to shoot longer before it stops extracting them.also be careful the bolt likes to scratch a groove into the next projectile in the mag when you close the bolt.
Great vid! Thumbs up and TY for it. Quick questions for ya... Can you please link in the bipod you used on that? It looks really nice. Also, would you recommend that one, or have others you would use over that one that are in the $50 range. Thanks. 👍
I have one with a Weaver optic from the factory. I bought this firearm as a training aid. My other bolt action is a Weatherby Vanguard, and that is not a rifle for practice....
mine came in a boyd stock I can't get it to shoot better than 2 in at 50 yards don't matter what ammo I've went through the entire gun try different torque I even broke the gun in as some people would say you should I'm not impressed at all especially with how the action mounts into the stock maybe that is the issue there's a big gap between where the action screws go into the action and the actual stock so you're not actually torquing anything
@boomstick 779 I did make some pillers added them and some wood and bedded it Wich improved it a lot probably 3/4 at 50 now but I am still looking for improvement what type of crown do people usually do on these?
Mine shoots sub MOA with several brands of ammo. Have an experienced shooter try the gun. Mine shoots its best groups with a gentle touch--and smooth trigger pull. Heavy handed manipulation opens up the groups. use known premium ammo--such as Eley Ten-X or other brands of match quality ammo.Keep notes on results each range session.
Great review, yes it's extremely quite and wish Illinois would allow suppressors. One pet peeve, everytime you worked the bolt you lifted your cheek up off the stock. Try keeping your cheek weld.
Id like to mention that there is no cheekweld on this rifle, its more of a jaw line weld. Savage just ran the same model 93 stock that was meant for iron sights not an optics only platform to save production costs. They later came out with their a22 and b22 precision rifles that remedy the cheekweld issue but at a higher cost.
Also, just because it bothers you doesnt require anyone else to change what they do. Him lifting his cheek/face from the rifle to work the bolt really makes zero difference in your life. Is it good practice to stay online w the weapon - sure. Is it required to plink a 22 into paper? No. Not even a little bit.
If I am being honest with you, most of the hunting I do is walking out my front door and taking down a hog or buck. I am pretty lazy when it comes to hunting and if they don't come to me I don't mess with it lol
I'm a bit disappointed in this video. No idea if he's using subsonic rounds or what the suppressor(s) he used were. Every question I had went unanswered.
@@GearsofGuns there’s a little resistance. Like I said, smooth as butter going into safe but some resistance going into fire ready. I think it may just need to be worked in.
He wasn't actually shooting that fast. If you paid attention you would have noticed it was edited to take out all the unnecessary (for viewers) waiting around between shots.
Louder barrols they are, first thing after ya order some cspec mag's, is clean it' from head to tow" like this is the most black dirty factory oil job iv ever saw in a rifle dirty boy. probably run smoother now', just cleaned mine like gosh', dont even want see whats comes out barrol yet, suppressors are useless unless they will silence a hi velositer round, they make that CB match 40 grain at 710 fps... Sub Sonic cartridge so why would you need a lisence for a suppressor is good question but idk...1000 yards ya right and land one like golf ball or something hailstone mabe' with custom scope benched shot mk 2 will touch with useable power out to 325+ yards with federal punch ammo or stingers some hi velosity stuff agula super extra whatever' standered 22 long rifle hi velosity 1200 fps will do 200+ yard's I suppose...and Sub Sonic makes 60 fpe so its plenty powerful mod range shell its a cci shell dezighned for foxes bob cats sized thing's... The best sub round I cant find anywhere it sucks was Remington 25 grain at 750 fps cap round low powder not a primer shell no, it make like 35 fpe, but because that round was lighter than 40 grain CB it would drop alot less' so preformed better at distance but made less impact energy than a CB...
My FV-SR has a Vortex venom sight on it, and I LOVE it. It's accurate, short, and handy. One of my favorite guns.
Cracks me up when they run the bolt ....warrior mode lol ... seal team six fantasy maybe?

Fluted
Varmint
Suppressor
Ready.
The "F" doesn't stand for Fluted. The "F" is Savage's indication that it's a polymer stock.

Incorrect. Savage uses "F" to indicate the rifle has a polymer stock.

Great video! What scope and rings do you have on that rifle?
FV-SR ... Fluted , Varmint , Suppressor Ready
Minute of Squirrel ( Ping-Pong Ball or Quarter Sized ) or Minute of Woodchuck ( Golf Ball or Half Dollar Sized ) .
great video what scope do you have on your Savage Mk II FV SR
Just bought this rifle, it’s my first gun and I wanted something accurate to learn riflery on and maybe hunt small game
What scope are you using here? Thanks!
It was a Sightmark 4x32 rimfire scope that they discontinued.
What does this mean. Just won, but have not received.... I'm a pinker to get P. Dogs Savage MK II .22LR 21.00"bbl STS
After looking at reviews we purchased the Savage mark ii FV-XP, the SR is pointless in Canada.
Oil filter
It's not pointless if you prefer a much shorter barrel for ease of carry thru the woods

Cci subsonics and cci queit semi auto. 1050 , 835 fps. They are out there.

What is the difference between the mark ii and the 93?
The 93 line is Savage's magnum rimfire caliber line (17 hmr and 22 mag). Otherwise, they're basically the same.

I’ve found that the safety lever will ease into safe relatively easy but when I move it forward to fire there’s some resistance. Is that normal?
a little or a lot? I have a pretty smooth safety but there is a slight amount when moving it.

Not much. Only .22LR vs .22Mag (93). Other than the size of the magwell, I can't find a difference between my two.
The 93 line is the magnum rimfire (17 hmr and 22mag) version of the Mark II
