- Welcome back to the Begin Again channel! 🏁 In this video, we'll take a look back at the rollercoaster of a year that was 2023 and share our some of our plans for the upcoming year.
2023 was a year filled with unexpected twists and turns. From racing mishaps to health scares, it was truly a unique year for me But as they say, every setback is a setup for a comeback! 🙌
We started the year with some freezing races in North Texas Kartway, including a hilarious moment where Paul underestimated the cold weather.
But the highlight was the inaugural race on the new South Circuit at the Dallas Karting Complex. Although it had its rough patches, it marked the beginning of something great.
One of the biggest highlights of 2023 was our journey to Rock Vegas. We had an amazing time, and the best part is that we're working on a full-length documentary about the experience, set to release in May 2024. Stay tuned for that!
So join us on this incredible journey as we reflect on 2023 and look forward to an action-packed 2024. Thanks for watching!
Great opening to 2024 Richard! Stay young at heart and prepping for that next race! Enjoyed meeting you in Vegas in the pits and learning about your story!
Hello Steven, so great to hear from you! I am very pumped for the 2024 season! The weather here has been frustrating as the days that are nice enough to go do some practicing usually fall on week days when I am working (gotta pay the bills!) and then it rains or snows on the weekend...just part of this time of the year, soon, the weather will be a lot more consistent and I can get some laps in...definitely need the seat time (don't we all). Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year (if more than just a bit belated)!
I've raced karts a long time. Been running 206 the last couple of years. Won a series championship in 2023 at 67 years old. I'll be 70 years old this coming July (2025). I've always wanted a shifter kart. I'm thinking of getting an old one and just have some fun with it at the track. Not looking to run upfront. Just have fun doing some laps. Too old? I don't feel old. But the body disagrees. I'm healthy, but little out of shape. What do you think?
You should absolutely give it a shot! Yes, it is very physical, but just get in the gym now and and get your carido and strength up, and do a lot of core and stretching. Also, focus a lot on your neck. There are several of us here in North Texas that are 65-72 years old and we do just fine, you just have to remember that you have to do a lot of laps and up your fitness regime if you are going to really get the most out of your time behind the wheel of a shifter because they are a LOT. That said, when you get it right in a shifter, it feels right and it's a huge thrill and super satisfying. I would also add that your best bet for an engine is the Rok Shifter, some will say the Honda and it is a very good engine but parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Just my $.02, please let me know what you decide to do!
@@RKSiler the motor is an older KZ125 K9. Any thoughts on that?
@@badgumby9544 i don't have a lot of experience with the KZ engines, so there's that to consider, but the folks that I know and trust who do have a lot of experience with them say that if you run the carb bit on the rich side, both the top and bottom ends last much longer than if you were to run them in an optimized condition...at that point, piston's and bottom ends need replacing way more often. I would recommend that unless you really know the history of your engine, I would opt to do a full engine rebuild so that you know know what sort of condition your engine is in vs just guessing about it (it's the old, "Why guess when you can know?" adage). For sure, after driving an L206, you will be grinning ear to ear with that engine!
Hi Richard lewis here from the uk hope your well as regards to seat position im trying the seat 10mm under the chassis rails to get my large frame lower and a better centre of gravity by doing the seat has had to go foward a bit my kart is run at its highest setting so seat should scape the ground
Hello Richard! I am betting that with your seat 10mm below the frame rails, you will be scraping the ground quite a bit, but nothing that a fiberglass repair kit can't handle! With you setting the seat so low, I am assuming that you are actually trying to "un-stick" the kart, correct? Will be interested to hear how you go once you get back out on track with that revised seating position!!!
@RKSiler ive tested it and it doesn't because ive the chassis on the highest setting because our tracks are bumpy so the kart was hitting the ground constantly my main problem has always been left hand corners we have an anti clockwise i use and its a nightmare to get around at 100% ive tryed nearly everything i can think of to get rid of this snappy oversteer issue ive got apart from the seat position ive now removed the seat stays to see if that helps but we need some warmer weather over here so il wait till march
