A remedy for the rain not to enter the eye of the Fig. Rub a drop of olive oil on the eye of the Fig.
    To repel water.
    It's done in some countries.
    My two cents.

That's done to speed up the ripening in the last stage of fig formation. Not for rain.

Very cool. I was thinking about adding a celeste fig to my collection mostly considering blue celeste but this video essay on black celeste is pretty good

If where you live is humid, then where I live is a lava pit. 😆 FL weather just a mess late, says it gonna rain whole week and then… nothing… nada… not a drop of rain. It’s mostly how and humid here (and I live not that far from central FL).

I'll build you a greenhouse Ross, so you don't have to worry about the rain.

Hi Ross, I’ve planted Chicago Hardy, Improved Celeste and Ronde de Bordeaux in containers for my Zone 5A garden this year and would like to add 1-2 more next year. Between Negra d’Agde and Negronne (Violette de Bourdeaux), Smith and I258, which would you consider earlier ripening and more flavorful?

Please let us know me know when you have cuttings of this Celeste available 🙏. I know you made a huge breakdown of Celestes before.

Dang, I passed on a black celeste this past weekend. I just discovered a grower less than an hour from the house. He has about 30 varieties in ground. I may have to go back and get it and Smith. I got Conadria, LSU Improved Celeste, Ronde De Bordeaux from him.

Hi, do you have an idea of a supplier where Black Celeste and improved Celeste can be bought, which are certified?

Hi Ross. Great videos, I saw your garden harvest the other day, so great to be blessed with fruits of labor. Growing your own is so rewarding. Need some help with my fig. It's a brown turkey a friend gave me from a big box store 3 maybe 4 years ago. For a while It was in a container, the Taproot went thru the pot into the ground. I had no other place to put my little greenhouse and put it right over the fig. I cut the container off let it grow in ground. It looks healthy. I got one fig which never got ripe ayear ago nothing since. There are roots coming from some branches, And it's getting pretty close to be top of the greenhouse. I think remember you said figs fruit on previous year wood. So if it's not fruiting anyway should I prune? Try my first airlayer on the rooted branches?🤔 it also had a sucker to which I dug up and replanted in ground not as gently as you did 😂 in your other video the cambium is still green but no leaves yet 2mo later. I know that's a whole lot, but I'm not sure what to do with either. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I'm not sure what the issues are exactly. Send me some photos of the tree over FB, IG or email.

Ross, is it early like Celeste as well? I’m trying to layout my orchard, early farthest away from my house moving closer with the later ripening. My reasoning is I’m getting old and the summer heat kicks my butt so I don’t want to walk far. Sounds good on paper.

I bought a 3 yr old standard Celeste last year. It did not fruit last year. In zone 6b (Central New Jersey) when should figs appear on a Celeste?

    • @jackhart1883

Depending on where you are and the micro climate. In FL July picking, Celeste is known for dropping figs on the first year.

Thanks for all the excellent information and videos. I bought a root ball fig tree (Unk Negretta) from you last Sept. It’s produced a lot of fruit this season and some are just starting to ripen. I also have a brown turkey (all in pots) that’s not doing well. Not sure why-figs are white and dry inside. Anyway, will you be offering root ball figs this year? I’m real interested in this black Celeste variety you have! Thank you.

Ross, another good video.....How much time do you think we have left for fig ripening in our area?

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Most of my trees are just beginning. We have until frost assuming it stays dry.

Anyone else think that Celeste taste a lot like Nestle's strawberry milk?
