    Some tips to make your experience watching my videos much better. You can change the speed and control the player using the shortcuts below:
    *"" key* - increase play speed
    *"j" key* - Move backward 10 sec (very useful when you need to repeat a step)
    *"k" key* - Pause/play video
    *"l" key* - Move forward 10 sec

      damn he has some skills, I could only do the magic ball by 9 years old, and that was with the easy method.
      Basically, after making the 32 by 16 grid, what you wanna do is make a diagonal crease through every square and work your way up. Then repeat the other direction.
      But I found that a problem is it makes a few ugly extra creases, and that while working, those creases can pop out and cause problems, especially when you squish it. I also found it weakens the overall integrity, making it softer and more easily to rip.
      But you should do the easy method first.

    I made it at the first attempt (after 3 hours of torture). It's not hard (i mean doesn't have too complex folds) it just requires lots of patience. If you are in trouble with that one i recommend you to try the simplified version first for the understanding folds. Thanks for the tutorial btw.

  • @jsun681
    @jsun681 4 ปีที่แล้ว +64

    I suggest a larger size for the first time. My second attempt I used 7"x14" paper from legal size sheet and it was so much easier to fold. My first attempt was with 14cm x 28cm as noted in the video description. Also remember to repress existing folds often. I find this strengthens the "memory" of the paper making it easier to fold back easily into place. Not sure what kind of tape was used but so far in my first 2 attempts joining the ends has affected the folds and the ball doesn't shape evenly. Otherwise, this is a very cool folding.

    I don't understand why people care so much about the tape. Honestly, WHO CARES?! It's a freaking paper ball, the only way to make it is with tape or glue. So what's the damn issue? "Origami can't use tape." Oh sorry, I forgot that if you don't follow the origami rule book, you get your gonads chopped off.

    Hello Mr. Nakashima,
    I wanted to thank you for being extremely influential in my life. In middle school, I discovered origami through your TH-cam channel and soon it became one of my biggest passions. I started to dive deeper in the months that followed and ended up learning a lot about tessellations like what is used in this video. The patterns of origami ended up being a factor in my interest in materials science, which I now plan to study at university. Thank you for making these videos and inspiring students like me!

    I watched a lot of your videos when I was a kid, and I successfully made most of your origamis. Back then I told myself, if you can do it, then I can too. Of course not every first try was a success, but I would redo until it was. Thank you Jo Nakashima

    Now I’m 16, I’ve taken geometry, and it’s my thanksgiving break

    I usually have a certain rule with origami. If it is longer than 10 minutes I don't do it, because I know that 1 minute will translate into 5-6 minutes of me going back to the same step.

    • @judzos
      @judzos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      This certain rule will actually prevent you from doing anything genuinely impressive.

    • @judzos
      @judzos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Burnt Potato I know right, this bullshit of a rule is one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard. Origami is about patience. If you want to fold something, then take your time. You won’t set a timer next to you and after 9 minutes the origami finishes by itself.

  • @grfhumpf
    @grfhumpf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know why so many people are complaining about this. It's certainly not the easiest model around, and the explanations are not the most detailed. Although, I managed to complete after 5-6 hours, most of the time procrastinating. What I can say as advice, if you are looking for, is: Be very precise with the creases (mark them very strongly with your nails); pay attention to the top-right scheme; in each step ask yourself how many times he folded, how the sheet looks and if it looks like your attempt. The final result is worth the time spent. :)
