Glad you tried nasi lemak. Actually the Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock restaurant at the beginning of your vlog serves good nasi lemak with fried chicken as well since you’re around that area. Nevertheless you should try the pull tea “teh tarik” at that restaurant you’re at. Btw, The bread that you ate looks like nan rather than roti to me. Red sauce you dipped the nan is called “sambal” - its on your nasi lemak as well!
Agree with Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock, and Teh Tarik (I usually ask for l’ess sweet’ as they tend to win the sweeter side). Also that was Naan bread (or roti) which is not usual in Malaysia; as the Indian cuisine in Malaysia is South Indian and they serve different breads (roti canai, roti Telur, thosai/dosa, uttapam).
My dear Dan, for authentic Nasi Lemak experience in KL, you should try these two places: 1) Nasi Lemak Tanglin (one of the oldest Nasi Lemak stall in KL) and 2) Nasi Lemak Wanjo Kampung Baru

Fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, served with a side of sambal (a spicy paste), eggs and anchovies, these are the components of a Nasi Lemak that make it a deliciously fulfilling meal.
what you experienced was a Mamak stall. The mamak stall culture is like the disclaimer place when you do not know what to eat. This is because there are so many dishes available in a mamak stall. That is why in big cities like KL, people usually say, 'let's go to mamak'. Historically, the term 'mamak' can mean one of two things, 1) a dignified title like the 'Mamak Bendahara' or 2) an identification towards Indian Muslim people who resided in Peninsula Malaysia.
Hi Dan. Welcome to 🇲🇾 as we say in Bahasa Malaysia SELAMAT DATANG! we have a wide variety of foid here so pleade ask any malaysian at the next table how yo eat a dish if you are not sure. For eg if you get Cendol, it needs to be mixed with the brown palm sugar known as gula melaka before you consume it.
The best way to eat nasi lemak is to mix the sambal with the rice. When eating using hands, gather the rice and other food using the tip of your fingers to clump them together. Scoop the rice using your fingers and thumb. Using your thumb to push the rice into your mouth. That roti is actually naan. Roti canai is fluffier and thin (layered). You should wash it down with teh tarik to cleanse your palate.
The restaurant next door is ali, muthu and ah hock (common male names of the 3 major races) and they are quite popular with their nasi lemak and their version is the malay style as opposed to the mamak style here
Pls travel and visit all 14 States in Malaysia. You will find varieties unique tastes in each 14 States. You will never get bored of Malaysian foodies!

Some foods you need to try like Roti Canai, Nasi Kandar, Nasi Briyani, Ramly Burger, Asam Laksa, Char Kuey Teow, Nyonya Foods, Teh Tarik.... Many many more
Most shopping centers in Malaysia (near you are Lot 10, KLCC, Pavillion) have a food court where you will find all of the above (except maybe Ramly burger which is a pure street food). They’re usually located on the basement floor or on the highest floor.
Yeah, they're a stone's throw away, I had a walk around there the other night, was quite busy, lots of Arabic food and shisha, which I'd like to try out. Thank you Paul 👍
You should ask for roti canai not roti naan.. Roti canai is another Malaysian favourite breakfast food just like Nasi Lemak and for drink you should try Teh Tarik or Hot Pulled Tea to complete your morning breakfast.

You should dip the naan roti in the curry or the lentil curry, then dip it in the sambal, the spiciest one, and eat..the sauces combo would bring the taste to another level…nxt time go for roti canai and eat with the combo sauces.
Dan, stay longer in Malaysia and l am guaratee you will put on 5-10kg of weight.😄 Rm16+ rinngit for 2 dishes+salad is cheap by KL standard.Enjoy your stay...please also try nasi kandar, nasi padang, Ramly burger, lebuh ampang beef noodles, banana leaf briani +lassi in brickfield(little India).....🤤
