  • In this 6 part video series we document a project that was designed and installed by Elegant Estates in 2022. The back and side yards to this property were notorious for standing water and improper surface grading.
Through the design process, we were able to achieve a functional space by using permeable pavers to provide usable patio and walkway surfaces, as well as aiding with surface water drainage.
The clever design and installation of the permeable pavers and French drains proved to be what was needed for this property owner's drainage nightmare!
We take you through the various stages of this project and highlight the phases most important to achieving the goal of this installation.

It looks like you connected a solid pipe to the downspout next to the back door, then used a Y to tie that solid pipe into the perforated French drain pipe. Is that correct?
Looks like you did the same basic thing on the front yard, too: solid pipe to perforated pipe, then back to solid pipe.
BTW the finished paving in your follow-up videos looks fantastic!

Thanks for watching! Yes, we used solid pipe coming out of the gutters to get the maximum distance away from the house and into the drain trench which had the slotted S&W pipe. Once we went back into the soil to trench around the house, it transitioned back to solid pipe. In our experience over the years and dealing with jetting companies, they always recommend doing a S&W pipe, or a schedule 40 where possible because their jets can really tear up the inside of drain pipes (especially the corrugated material that is typically used by contractors). It is more expensive to go the PVC route, and can also lead to bids being lost on installation projects. However, we have committed to installing projects properly, with the appropriate materials, and that trumps the risk of losing bids every time knowing that we do not have to go back and fix anything, and the customer has the peace of mind that all is well.
