Dax Shepard and Kristin bell have been vocal about how they handle Santa w their kids and how they don't want their kids to doubt their critical thinking and lie to them when the kids start asking questions about why the Santa deal doesn't make sense. Great advice from you both.
This probably isn’t really relevant for people in California, but I think of Christmas traditions and Christmas lights as a necessity where I am because it’s so snowy and cold and dark in the winter. For that reason I would recommend leaning into some of the traditions that speak to the winter season and not the religious associations. We (who are in cold places) need colourful lights and images that romanticize winter to keep us going emotionally. If not string lights than perhaps lots of candles (battery so the house doesn’t burn down) can address solstice and ornaments of chipmunks wearing scarves can make winter less threatening. I agree with comments re. hanging the ornaments around the house, but you could even just put them on shelves. The gift-giving (‘Christmas spirit’) can be reframed as making a special effort to help people and keep them afloat during the harshest season.
How about making up a completely separate creative tradition? Like, buying a big canvas and decorating/drawing on it with her, or making a collage of this year’s pictures on it, or making/decorating regular cookies? I definitely relate to the need of a creative release, but divorcing it from any christian tradition might make it more palatable/enjoyable for Moshe.
My family needs help this holiday, lost my job then broke my shoulder it's been so hard and I don't know who or how to ask for help. So you guys trying to help people warms me up!! Love Y'all!! 🥰🥰
I think the fun is in using your creativity in making your own new family ritual. You get to choose what you want but it should include ornaments of all the dogs. 😍😍😍
Clearly Natasha wants a Christmas tree. She shouldn’t even have to ask mosha. She should just get a tree or the Hanukkah bush that she keeps talking about it and decorate it how she wants. She is missing her creativity side.
Giving back is always a good thing, and Christmas time is deemed the season of giving, however having worked with homeless, mentally ill, prison populations for a dozen years- holiday times are pretty well covered... resources and help and money are needed all year round! 💞
My mom brilliantly told me (only when I asked) that Santa was pretend. Then she told me than if I told my cousins, 'Santa' WOULD NOT be getting me any gifts. So, I was bribed. Thus I was initiated into the reality of mass delusion and the power of blackmail.
I'm realizing how non-traditional my holidays were. My parents were both raised Christian but considered themselves atheist/agnostic. We had a close relationship with our extended family (who were Christian) so they played the little Santa game. When I was five, I asked about Santa because I too, was not a dumbass and thought it was incredible how he got around the world. My mom didn't waste any time and told us Santa wasn't real. Honestly, we didn't really care because we were still getting presents. Obviously, we started asking about Christmas and Santa and that's when my parents kind of explained Christianity to us and why they don't believe in it. They told us that we are free to believe whatever we want and if there's ever a church or seminar, etc. we want to go to they would be happy to take us. They explained the importance of respecting other peoples religions and I think it was a really good approach! I have a lot of respect and appreciation for other religions and enjoying holidays/traditions with friends/family. I don't feel like I'm missing out, I actually feel like I get to enjoy all of them.
I think Moshe is right in this situation, given that he was hungry and you were unavailable and when he tried to resolve it you rejected his offer. Going forward, Natasha, only wait for Moshe to eat if he is available.
Kinda surprised how vitriolic of a reaction Moshe has to a Christmas tree because it's not his religion. My skin wouldn't crawl with repulsion if I had a menorah in the house despite not being Jewish.
You’re also in the majority religion, not a minority one. Xmas is shoved down everyone’s throat, and anyone who tries to do anything else or have any reaction besides enthusiastic compliance is seen as a heartless ass.
I think he mentions one of his parents was a hardcore follower/or Orthodox or something similar in an other podcast. Also he may have been semi-joking/ironic. Otherwise yes I agree it was a really strong reaction
I wouldn’t have the same reaction either but different people have different reactions to Christianity for various reasons so his reaction is understandable.
Exactly. The Christmas music, decorations, and nonstop ads start the day after Thanksgiving. It's everywhere! If you don't celebrate Christmas its honestly so dreadful.
You know your rich when. You get an expensive VR headset as an "I'm sorry for the construction noise" gift from your neighbor. In my world it would have been a loaf of home made bannana nut bread.
@@glennaffonso9651 Everyone has needs in a relationship. So unless Natasha has a need for spag bowls and obsessive video game playing from a guy with a spotty career, I’d say she’s definitely settling in her marriage and it shows in her demeanour towards him.
Why not make the ornaments with the the kids and hang them from the mantle the bannister, door knobs, and the like. No tree but still satisfies the creative seasonal feel.
Buy my kids Xmas stuff. I'm broke as all hell. I lost my serving job and now I'm suddenly a 4th grade and preschool teacher. Also lavender bushes are like $35. Get that and decorate a ginger bread house. Don't overcomplicate it.
You trust your parents, they are the first people you trust. I felt betrayed when I found out he wasnt real because I was lied to for years and the whole world was in on it! Now, I question everything! Which is good, cuz as I've discovered in 2020, we've been lied to a lot more than I thought!
You say what my parents told me when I asked if Santa was real: "It's the spirit of Christmas that's real, that matters," meaning the spirit of giving, etc. I don't know though, I now think Christmas is pretty awful and celebrate Hanukkah with my husband. Lol
you're all so weird saying stuff about their relationship and how it's "breaking down" or whatever. get a grip, you see a snippet of about 55 minutes of their lives and then 20 more on the secret dump. are you all joking or are you really that delusional? it's a global pandemic. times are different and stressful. just because they had a fight doesn't mean they're going to get divorced you weirdos
I can feel Natashas not feeling staying home vibe, a lil sad, maybe do your stand up in another aspect ! This podcast is an amazing start, so many people watch !!
Christians reflect christmas critically though. A lot of us are anti-gifts / anti-bought-gifts and pro self-made gifts. In germany the christmas markets are all about celebrating craftsmenship. You can get handmade wood-carved tings or leather-wear, or jewellery. In my family it's a tradition to donate to a good cause in the name of the family instead of giving everyone a gift. Of course christmas is still the dominating festivity at this season, but there are many layers to it.
Pine trees are not Christian! I love plants and nature and have lit trees/branches on display all year round! Edit: also...winter celebrations have existed and still make perfect sense without religion- it's cold and everyone is stuck inside so making one's home warm and welcoming and filled with pleasant scents, uplifting color/decor and delicious treats is 100% a nesting instinct and a lovely way of "settling in" for a long (potentially horrible) winter
Why not do a decoration drive,or volunteer to decorate, it's alot of work I'm sure many could use help with. That way you get to help out, have ya decoration itch scratched, and you don't have to bother living with it. Funny af btw ...
