  • In the early 2000s plans were set in place to fix the issues of Epcot, Future World would have been gone, replaced by the timeless nature of Discoveryland home to new spins on old favourite attractions and brand new experiences.

Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster and the Ratatouille dark ride are only band aid solutions to the EPCOT's problem, EPCOT needs a billion dollar fix like DCA got. There is space in World Showcase for more pavilions of Nations so put them in plus rides like the Mt Fuji Coaster for Japan and the Rhine River ride that Germany was suppose to get for starters

Disney will not ever be a favorite in my eyes. No rides geared towards teens and or adults. One inversion coaster, and no coasters really at all. No thrill rides. Never worth the money they steal from you

    • @TNpyro-nk8ky
      @TNpyro-nk8ky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Leo Watley unfortunately I totally disagree with your point. But since it’s the adults that are paying for the trip and everything then there should be rides for them aswell. 8 boat rides is too much. I get they want great reviews but holy hell there is one ride that goes upside down out of 4 parks! Too many mine rides bro. They need a major overhaul and new staff members aswell I’ve been to Disney 7 times now and never had a worse experience.

    • @TNpyro-nk8ky
      @TNpyro-nk8ky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Leo Watley nope no point missed I know how the parks are. They are adding two new roller coasters and neither are exciting or cool. I would rather take my child to six flags. Pay less, eat, hangout, and do whatever they wanted to do. Like u said many parks that are adult oriented but at the same time $4,000 is a lot for just shit for children. You can enjoy that shithole all u want I will not return. Let’s also touch on how inconsistent everything is with Covid. Yea let’s social distance on buses but not clean after people get off and new come on but let’s make them wear masks? 😂 makes no sense. Yea let’s not put umbrellas out for our guest while it’s 97 degrees out and people are already hot from being suffocated from the mask. They don’t care about anything but there money. Screw Disney I can take a child to Dollywood here in Knoxville and they can have just as good of an experience and it’s only $110 a person. Way better rides for all, aswell as coasters that invert and have great theming aswell so Disney fails.

I saw it in ‘84, and even though the twin Communicore complexes were already a little dated by then (for instance, between ‘82 and ‘84, EVERYONE had seen touchscreen computers), as a tween interested in science and technology and conservation and city planning, I thought EPCOT Center was… THE GREATEST THING EVER!! I frankly far preferred it over Magic Kingdom. Disney really ought to have considered what a unique concept they had, and what a diverse clientele they cater to - including smart science kids outgrowing cartoon mice - before wrecking the whole thing.

I have thought that Disney should open up a fifth main park in WDW Florida instead of trying to inject intellectual property into every attraction at Epcot. And yes, as much as Epcot is my favorite park, I still feel the spine of Future World has been outdated this entire century. I just went back from Epcot today. As a communication major undergraduate student, I enjoyed Epcot so much especially Spaceship Earth.
I think it would be cool if Apple and Tesla would become sponsors of new attraction.
I felt Disney Hollywood Studios should update more and more immediately. Too long queue lines for everything, bad food, cheap theme, and the half of attractions are down( shows ) for COVID.
Magic Kingdom should update more. Compared to Tokyo Disneyland, the attractions at MK become old and cheap.

      @letsplayclassicgames5024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Spaceship Earth is amazing, and as much as I don't like Tesla's I do think that they are a brand that should sponsor a ride, I think they would do something very unique. I think Magic Kingdom has a fine line they have to ride. If they add on to the park it self then it would be good, but I dont think you can do much adding without taking away, which is the problem. You have so many legacy rides such as Big Thunder/Space/Splash Mountain, Pirates of The Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Small World to name a few. If any of these get touched I could see it driving people away as these rides have been enjoyed by generations of families. I think the other parks are for the cool new rides, and Magic Kingdom is the time piece dedicated to the era of Walt and the first generation of Imagineers that created some of the most timeless attractions.

The permanent world's fair idea is what made Epcot special and the best of the WDW parks. Turning it into a haven for IP promotion and an imitation of Universal makes it just another roadside attraction.
The IP stuff, like what's happened with the Mexico and Norway pavilions along with the GG Rollercoaster, the Nemo overlay of Living Seas and Ratatouille, belongs in the Magic Kingdom. Future World needed a face-lift more than an overhaul. And Spaceship Earth is just about sacrosanct - Time Chasers or whatever it was called was a horrible idea.

What about the other foundational goal of having people being optimistic about the future? Maybe they could make a future vision in which the problems we face today are solved. Stuff like climate change, world hunger, people living in poverty for example. Try to talk to experts to show which steps we can take to make that future a reality. I feel that people have a negative outlook on the future, because of the future troubles they see on the news and they can't see a way to get on the right track. Perhaps the park can still educate and by doing so give people a better outlook on the future.
Also, with regards to the technology, of course technology is advancing at a rapid pace and these attractions too expensive to keep updating them when something new rolls around. They could focus on bigger breakthroughs that can happen in a more distant future and their effect on the world. Fusion power for example which could provide clean energy without radioactive waste, or fields full of windmills or solar panels; or dna technologies that could allow more effective treatments of disease.
I wish they would do something like this instead of overhauling it in a way that loses its identity

But it got old and dated very quick. I don't see the current changes do anything to help it above the "at least they do something" but that shouldn't be the standard Disney is trying to sell. Worst crime is the horrible coaster building ruining the great architecture all other buildings have, another wrong diversion from what made this park the best into the worst of WDW.

I personally like Soarin Around the World more. Soarin over California become so boring and the film was so old and outdated, you could still see specks of dust and hairs on the film. The new one has much better atmosphere, the film is much brighter and clearer, the scene transitions are seamless and the new sounds and even smells they added were an excellent touch. However, I think it would have been way better if they had it do what Star Tours the Adventure continues does, you have a different flight every time. Maybe in this one you see the Missouri Archway and Big Ben in London, and in the next one you'll fly over Tokyo and over Niagara Falls. Each ride would be different but would always end with the grand finale of flying right into a Disneyland fireworks display.

Glad I'm not the only one who finds Soarin Around the World to be superior to Soarin Over California for those same reasons that you mentioned. Those Soarin Over California fans who believe Soarin Around The World is inferior to the original are purists. They just don't understand why the ride had to be changed and improved upon. They always have to make up some ridiculous excuses to defend the original version and "justify" their distaste towards the new one.

can confirm, as a child I did NOT want to go to EPCOT, in my mind, it was too "sophisticated" (i.e., boring) for me to enjoy it. Years later it is probably my favorite park at Disney World.

Although I wish I did, I never got to see EPCOT it it's original form. My first trip was around 2003 maybe (Test Track 1.0 and no Soarin yet). It was an enjoyable park but it definitely felt like a mixed bag. I came back the year Expedition Everest was just put into Animal Kingdom so the California version of Soarin was there and still had Test Track 1.0, so I believe it would have been 2007 maybe? I really enjoyed this version of the park the most. While I can say I really don't like the international version of Soarin, I really really don't like what they did with the Test Track update. I really liked the pre show queue with the factory setting and thought that that the ride itself felt so much more immersive compared to the new update, which just looks like a really cheap attempt to make the ride look futuristic. I hope they don't screw up Spaceship Earth in this new update and that they would leave Living On the Land alone. That's more or less the last two day one rides in tact that I know of and have earned their place there. Would have loved to have seen Horizons and World of Motion in their original state too.

I'm actually really, really excited for all of the new changes and construction going on, currently, around Epcot.
Knowing Disney and Imagineering, I would say....
Let's give it all until opening, AND THEN make our final opinions.
Disney has a way of under promising and over delivering, in terms of what they present for their parks, worlds and attractions.
    Every detail isn't defined.
After seeing the Epcot experience, and some of the protestations from that presentation, I believe that the Imagineers truly have some of the original
ideals of what Epcot is meant to be, at heart, with bringing it into the future.
Ratatouille is actually a really good example. On the surface, sure. It seems, maybe, a bit odd to be putting this I.P., into World Showcase. However, after
actually placing myself underneath the sign of the Ratatouille main entrance, I could certainly see how cool it will be for one to thrust themselves into that world.
The whole angle of it shifted for me. I suddenly thought... Well... What's wrong with having some of the factual and some of the fictional, all in one place?
In a way, does this actually move Disney storytelling forward as well as speak to the future hopes and dreams of humanity? Does it speak to this idea of
people, around the world, living in peace and harmony? I think that it might, because that's the power of fiction.
I don't think that I am reading too much into this at all.
Give W.D.I. a chance, and let's see what the final thesis will be.

Epcot was designed as a corporate business park. It’s not so much a theme park as a place to go to work as if it’s the 1960s or get educated at the 5th grade level.

Basically and to be honest, I wish they didn't get rid of the theme of sea base Alpha from the living Seas. I just wish they didn't get rid of the living Seas completely at Epcot.
Why, because as I said before in the 21st century. We would have undersea communities, however I have found out that underwater communities for the oceans have never been built yet. And of course I don't know when undersea communities will ever be built and finished.
I really wish they could have kept the living Seas at Epcot.
But they could have took out the Amli movers system, and replaced it with a motion simulator instead. So the motion simulator would make us think that we are boarding a Little Submarine, that would take us to Sea base Alpha.
I just wish that the living Seas could have still existed at Epcot, because I would have liked it if the Amli mover ride system would immediately be taken out. And a new ride would be put inside the Pavilion, making it half Thrill Ride and even educational at the same time. And it could have been a motion simulator, where we would think we are inside a Little Submarine. That would take us to Sea base Alpha.
And even if it would still be called The Living Seas and if they were to use the same theme of sea base Alpha, and still have the motion simulator submarine ride. They would think of putting Nemo in there, and even have the motion simulator submarine ride to be reprogrammed. By using both its sea base Alpha ride oh, and another one featuring Nemo and the other characters. So they would be to reprogramming changes, as seasonal overlays for the motion simulator ride of the living Seas. One about sea base Alpha, and another one featuring Nemo and the other characters from Finding Nemo.
And years later with Finding Dory which already came out, they could have put a Finding Dory themed reprogramming seasonal overlay in the ride as well. Where it would be about Dory. And even the new characters from Finding Dory, like the octopus, the whale shark Etc. And even the glowing giant squid.
This idea could have been done for a motion simulator submarine ride, to feature three reprogramming seasonal overlay changes for the ride. One about going to Sea base Alpha, another one exploring the ocean with Nemo and the other characters from Finding Nemo. And of course another one starring Dory, and the characters from Finding Dory.
I wish they really didn't replace the original living Seas with the Seas with Nemo and Friends, I wish they could have kept the living Seas at Epcot. And done it with these ideas.
Because let me tell you it would have been educational, thrilling and fun all together. Just two go on another Disney motion simulator ride, but to be as a submarine educational Thrill Ride, located inside the living Seas Pavilion.
Also they would also need to have Turtle talk with Crush as well, inside the living Seas. So that way that would be something for the little kids to have fun with inside the living Seas, and of course having their parents and other fans of both Finding Nemo and Finding Dory to do some interaction with the characters.
And if all of this could have been a tie in with both Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, the living Seas would still exist at Epcot. And The name sea base Alpha would still be use, even with these ideas to make the entire Pavilion work for a new generation.
Also it could have been possible, if the simulator submarine ride. Would be added a 4th reprogramming seasonal overlay change, with the theme of The Little Mermaid as well. And it would have had a story, to celebrate Christmas. So it would be in a tie in with the Christmas season.
I also do believe that, they should have a new interactive show like Turtle talk with Crush. Accept it would be an interactive show, where you could talk to Ariel from the ocean, and of course some of her friends would come like Sebastian and Flounder.
In fact if all of these ideas could have happened, the living Seas would still exist at Epcot. If it could have had tie ins with the franchise of Nemo and Dory, crush the sea turtle and of course the Little Mermaid. And and these ideas would still have the living Seas to exist with these ideas making new generations to visit the living Seas at Epcot, with different changes. So that they would still keep the name the living seas, and the name sea base Alpha.
And like I said, I haven't heard of a undersea community or even a undersea research facility with marine biologist built yet in any of the oceans. I don't know when those ideas will ever get built, but it's going to take a long time for them to be completed or it could be possible in the 21st century.
And the living Seas could have still showcase all of that, with sea base Alpha. And the fantasy ideas of Nemo, Dory and crush the sea turtle and of course the Little Mermaid. So the living Seas could have showcased reality of marine biology, technology, the thrill of a submarine and fantasy.
Please give me some replies of what you think that Disney could have done, like what I explained on this comment👍😉

One of the reasons I've always loved Epcot since I was little, was because it wasn't IP heavy, except for a few things here and there when it made sense "getting to see Mulan at the China pavilion the year the movie came out, was the one and only time I had that "magical" character moment and I was 12!! What is happening at Epcot will honestly bite them in the ass in a few years. Since they are throwing IPs at the park that are "in" right now, doesn't mean they will be in still in 10 years.

I was there once as a kid in 1989 and even then it looked outdated and was the most boring experience I ever had. Even purely educational theme parks were a lot more interesting. I think you need a completely new park as the whole concept - especially world showcase - is essentially a 19th century concept.

"Most Unique Theme Park Ever"? What? Unique is unique, you cannot have more unique, nor most unique. But let's get to the real issue here... The narrator said it, and I reinforce it. "Antiquated." "Outdated." I'll add a couple more adjectives. "Sophomoric". "Presumptuous". Who cares that Disney's view of Tomorrow Land seems to be hopelessly anachronistic now? I view the exporting of such parks and resorts to foreign countries to be the worst examples of Ugly Americanism at work. Our country can, and should, do a lot better. Such as not exporting such juvenile dreck in the first place.
