It is extraordinary that Madame Larrocha’s critique concerns utter fidelity to the score, the exactitude of the accents, and the sonority concerning the execution which is absolutely pianistic rather than percussive. She also knew, of course, the origins of all these dances incorporated. It is never just the notes. It is an entire culture.
AdL often -- always for valid reasons -- does not follow tempo and dynamics marked in the score.
Brava, Jasmin Arakawa!!! It is clear that AdL (my mother) really liked your playing!!! Greetings from Barcelona 😃
Thank you!!!!!
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing! 💌
You are a very, very lucky woman to have experienced this!
Wonderful to see this artistry being passed from one great pianist to another.
Bravo Jasmin !!! Tocas el piano con auténtico estilo español. Ojalá vengas algún día a Sevilla a dar un recital ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this!! ❤🙏
This is a goldmine! I’ve been a fan since the mid 1970’s. As suspected, AdL is a classicist: minimal rubato, steady tempo, singing melodies, always structured phrases. That style is falling out of favor these days, in favor of much more romanticism…
Very interesting this Master class by the great AdL. Didn't know this was on You Tube. So good to see her explaining how to play these very difficult pieces. I read AdL recorded Iberia four times. Thanks very much for posting this on You Tube!👍🎹🙏
I love Your Performance. You are a Wonderful Pianist and Woman!
Absolutely beautiful playing Jasmin and wonderful to listen to the input from de Larrocha!
Thank you!! I'm so grateful that her teaching was documented-even partially!
@@jasminarakawa Hi again Jasmin, I ended up finding this because I was looking for your performance of Francaix that was so wonderful. (do you have a performance of Francaix Cinq Bis on TH-cam?) But I loved the de Larrocha comments. (she reminded me in her delivery of my most formative teacher: Mischa Kottler who was a student of Cortot and von Sauer. Back to your performance of Albeniz, although I loved the de Larrocha input and thought she was great and brought even another level of magic, -you already played so beautifully.

DeLarrocha was and still is amazing...it's hard to believe that this is the same sweet, grandmotherly woman who gave such scorching live performances of the Rachmaninov #2 & 3, Liszt Sonata, Albeniz Iberia, Goyescas and other works earlier in her career...in this class, she demonstrates her mastery of the music, although I think she struggles a bit to communicate her ideas in English.
I heard Mdme DeLarrocha play several times and this music was in her blood. If she thought something was good about your playing - you were GOOD! not mere politeness, but true approbation for sure. what I wouldn't have given to have her critique my Albeniz!
Alicia doesn't appear till 19:40
A shame that there's only 10 minutes of instruction.
