Luffy is pointing out how unrealistic Vivi's wish to stop the war with no casualties is, especially without even being willing to put the lives of the crew on the line.
Vivi vs. Luffy was the first time I saw Luffy's emotional intelligence. Obviously its there in previous arcs, especially Arlong Park, but this is the first time I noticed it. So this episode will always hold a special place in my heart.
By the way, one truth most One Piece fans neer talk about: In over a thousand episodes, there are some stretches where it drags, where you want to go to the next arc/island etc. Which is expected I think, just in case you ever feel like you're done. Usually those stretches are followed by some of the most insane, hard-hitting storytelling I personally have ever experienced.
the thing is....Vivi DIDN'T ask the strawhats to put their lives on the line. In fact all she asked ofthem was to bring her to the rebels. Not once did she think about actually having the straw hats fight, because she doesn't want ANY fighting or casualties at all. But as luffy points out her thinking is flawed. THe straw hats are there with her so they CAN fight with her, and there's no guarantee she CAN stop any bloodshed as long as crocodile is still around.
Vivi only thought of the Strawhats as a means of transportation, letting Vivi carry all the burden of solving the problem. Luffy wanted her to understand that as friends they'd commited all the way
For as awesome a character as Crocodile is, he's not above the cliché of his evil lair having a trapdoor leading to animals that eat people. I can respect that.
The filler fatigue is real. Some of it is decent, and it's nice to see "extra" adventures with the crew, but it really screws with the pacing of the story. You're right about the punch. Reminds me of something you pointed out in your live action reactions, that Oda minimizes violence among friends and family quite a bit. Sometimes for laughs, like Nami punching the rest of the crew, or Sanji and Zoro roughhousing. Sometimes for emotion, when Luffy and Vivi fight or Bellemere hitting Nami. Someone once told me that songs in a musical represent the moment when a characters emotions become too much for words and can only be conveyed on song. In One Piece, it feels like punches are the same way. When the emotions reach a boiling point that can't be conveyed with words, a fight breaks out. Also, lmao at the drink. Probably didn't hit before the end of this video, but it'll be interesting to see your next upload if you're recording more today. 😂
Not watching fillers from now on is a good idea, but with one exception. There will be a filler arc with great strory, great characters and great humor. The community will tell you, when that filler arc comes up.
Seconded. That particular filler is honorary canon, even to the point of some of its characters showing up in group shots in later canon. It's wonderfully written, the characters are all on point, the plot is actually good, and it fits itself into the opening and ending without making any new plotholes. It's great. And it's immediately followed by some canon that's honorary filler, what with how universally it's panned and utter lack of any character growth or plot development.
I love to watch your videos with breakfast but I guess tonight it's going to help me fall asleep. I just finished rewatching Alabasta arc myself, looking forward to your experience. Nice to find a video every 3 days. 🙏
Vivi is a character that wants to take the burdens on her own and is willing to sacrifice herself. that's why Luffy comes in w friendship and stuffs :)
(Not a spoiler since it's additional content to clarify the manga [and thus anime]) Zoro and Kuina are cousins. If that means Tashigi's just a few more removed, then maybe she's in the family too.
the finale fight is going to be so good, honestly one of the most well done episodes and i can't wait for you to see it. they really story board it like watching a performance.
One of my favorite memes between my friends is literally any time we saw Mr 3 or similar powers in any show one of us will without a doubt say “I lied, it’s not wax”
7:50 this is one of those moments where we see that Luffy isn't just an idiot. He's seen at least two people die in front of his eyes - that bandit Lucky Roo shot, and the bandit leader Higuma who got eaten - and he knows damn well that a civil war involving an entire country isn't going to be bloodless. Also, he's been hitting women since episode 1, equal rights equal fights.
It's a long shot, since I have no idea how far ahead you record these, but 110 is a great stopping point for a viewing session, if you want to do three episodes in the reaction after the upcoming one. If not, no big deal. The switchup on you being fully engaged in the story again as soon as the filler ended versus how you were grasping at things to comment on the last few videos was palpable. Some of the filler is good, and I'm sure others will say so, I still remember that long comment I left on one of your Warship Island arc reacts, detailing my opinions on all the filler, but as a first time viewer I'm wholly sympathetic to you just wanting to get on with things. Especially after the desert that never ends. In regards to you wondering when the pacing of the canon story in the anime slows down noticeably, around the 400s, but the story has enough moving parts by then it's not unbearable. the absolute worst stretch is in the 600s, before the pacing thankfully improves back to the 400-ish standard.
There aren’t many arcs with in arc filler. I can think of only one other off the top of my head. Most are are after/before the next serious arc and most of them are more enjoyable because they are mini crew bonding/shenanigans on the way to the next big story and seem better connected to the flow. Most arcs start slow with character/environment introductions and then pick up midway through. Odas genius is his nailing the payoff and closing the door on every detail he setup like a bunch of dominoes falling into place.
Crocodile really looks like a old school James Bond villain, easily one of my favorite villains in OP! Also thanks to him my favorite character was born, Mr Prince😎
Luffy's reasoning is very confusing but yes, Vivi has been holding back by fear of sending them to their deaths. Her plan is to warn Koza and it's true that Crocodile fears that, but Luffy still doesn't think that will be enough to stop the war, to prevent people form dying, he wants her to send him and the crew directly at Crocodile which she would never have dared to ask for. I read that part first when I was in my mid teens, almost two decades ago and I was very confused at the time so definitely don't feel bad for not getting it for a whole 30 seconds xD That being said, I think the confusion at this part which is frequent shows Oda should probably have put slightly more emphasis on Vivi's reluctance to have them face Croc himself. We got Nami reassuring Vivi that "not even a warlord can stop Luffy when he's motivated" and even if she was just trying to reassure Vivi at the time, that notion is never really questioned by Vivi later on, making people forget that she would never want to send them directly at Croc.
I respect the decision with the filler, but I do recommend watching the G-8 filler which is episodes 196-206 and fandom loves because the story in it is so good its almost like Oda created it. Maybe the only filler I'd recommend is worthwhile watching.
I think it's quite hilarious how many people completely forget that our goal until this point was never to go beat up Crocodile 😂 You are not the first reactor who, because we know how arcs usually go and based on the extra information we have as viewers, just kinda assumed that of course the Strawhats would get involved in the war by default x) But nope, Vivi really thought she could just talk it out with Coza and that would fix it all. Sweet, but also very naive.
I just leave you the challenge to watch the G-8 filler arc with one of the most iconic anime's character. It's as good as cannon. In Alabasta, filler becomes a bit lengthty.
i think the funimation dub did a better explaining why luffy was acting bratty and why vivi picking a fight with luffy and how luffy notice that vivi is still shouldering everything when she has his friends aka the strawhats that she can rely on....
the argument luffy was having was, vivi is trying to solve this whole problem on her own and without bloodshed. she thinks just talking to the rebel people and kohza and her father and revealing who is really behind all this will just stop any fighting from happening. but luffy understands doing that wont stop crocodile. and it wont stop alabasta from trying to stop crocodile which again would lead to bloodshed. crocodile needs to be stopped, but the citizens rebelling thats not something he as a pirate can help with. vivi doesnt want the strawhats to get hurt by getting involved but they are ready to fight to help her, but all they can do as pirates is fight baroque works. their not gonna be helpful in politics. but vivi is ready to die to save her country but shes still unwilling to let the crew risk their lives for her, thats why luffy told her to also bet their lives
I will just parrot what a few people have said of just watch the G8 filler at least. am so sure that with the anime remake thing Oda probably will canonize G8 into it
I know this has nothing to do with the episode but after discovering your channel through one piece live action I went back to watch your other adaption reactions and want to know how one piece and sandman live action adoptions compare as Netflix live action adoptions.
Hey Nerdy, the next opening is near, just remember not to watch it, you can still listen to it, it has a MAJOR SPOILER so in your face, it was actually critiqued back then, so you would want to avoid watching it until after leaving alabasta
Some of the filler is decent but you are making the right decision to skip it, some are worth going back and watching later if you want to see the straw hats being silly together and like, what if style plots - luffy becomes a marine, fuedal japan and all the straw hats are gangsters etc...
if you ever just get burned out by pacing, just start reading the manga. I lost interest in sky island and then again in fishmen island. So I went to reading.
Skip that filler! I enjoy your reactions, and if you stop having fun there's no reason to keep doing reactions, so yeah skip filler and just enjoy the actual story.
Thank you so much for the decision to skip filler. May I suggest Onepace for filler episodes? You dont even need to react to them, just meet us on the other side. I believe they leave all the important details and cut out all the rest.
Alabasa filler was not hot. no pun intended. The ruins part gets called back which was good but not worth it. That said, the G8 filler mini arc after the next Arc, is liked by many for its moments with sanji (one of my fave moments with sanji as a chef and someone who works fighting against hunger) and #%%^#, the arc gives nice inside info on the day 2 day life in the navi, but it alot of it outside those moments are BLEH. Also ep 131 right after Alabasta actually shows nami charting a island and making a map and some bonding time with chopper and %&^%^. I think they add a fair bit to those characters but not the best react content.
I must say it again, sry xD it's your choice with the fillers, but I still would recommend to just watch it on your own then without uploading them :P . But i guess my point of view is clear anyway, so after this video, I won't talk anymore about your decision and my personal preferrences about that matter ^^
Man's gonna have a hard time watching anime if hitting and violence is something that bothers you, you mention it every time. Anime is a violence expressive medium, a lot of points will be punctuated with a punch. Not just in One Piece, in most animes.
Luffy is pointing out how unrealistic Vivi's wish to stop the war with no casualties is, especially without even being willing to put the lives of the crew on the line.
Crocodile isn't considered one of the best characters/ villains in the show for nothing. Dude is just such a menace for real.
Omg, I just realized something! Crocodile probably got into the chair without anyone noticing by doing so as sand!
I prefer to imagine him crawling on the floor to make a dramatic entrance
Exactly
This is now canon @@a3-radio
@@a3-radio i can't accept anything less 😂
ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! well done, not everyone catches on to that.
Vivi vs. Luffy was the first time I saw Luffy's emotional intelligence. Obviously its there in previous arcs, especially Arlong Park, but this is the first time I noticed it. So this episode will always hold a special place in my heart.

Doesn't excuse them
No it’s just the studio doing a bad job. I wouldn’t reccomend watching over 500
the thing is....Vivi DIDN'T ask the strawhats to put their lives on the line. In fact all she asked ofthem was to bring her to the rebels. Not once did she think about actually having the straw hats fight, because she doesn't want ANY fighting or casualties at all.

For as awesome a character as Crocodile is, he's not above the cliché of his evil lair having a trapdoor leading to animals that eat people. I can respect that.
Crocodile honors the ancient traditions, and I respect that.
He's a classic Bond villain😁
Luffy really said Equal Rights Equal Lefts. THATS MY PIRATE KING!
The filler fatigue is real. Some of it is decent, and it's nice to see "extra" adventures with the crew, but it really screws with the pacing of the story.

The reason why Crocodile tolerates "these people" is that everyone has value and skill that he wants to exploit. The End.
Not watching fillers from now on is a good idea, but with one exception. There will be a filler arc with great strory, great characters and great humor.

6:24 I love how even in the photos, there's no Sanji. Truly a Mr. Prince!
I love to watch your videos with breakfast but I guess tonight it's going to help me fall asleep.
I just finished rewatching Alabasta arc myself, looking forward to your experience. Nice to find a video every 3 days. 🙏
11:10 Your goofiness is funny even when sining along with the song believe in wonderland everytime😂👌
Vivi is a character that wants to take the burdens on her own and is willing to sacrifice herself. that's why Luffy comes in w friendship and stuffs :)
I love hearing your prediction of what's going to happen since I already know if you're right or not. xD
(Not a spoiler since it's additional content to clarify the manga [and thus anime])
Zoro and Kuina are cousins. If that means Tashigi's just a few more removed, then maybe she's in the family too.
Zoro and Kuina are many generations removed. Zoro's grandmum was a Shimotsuki, sure, but she wasn't even siblings with Kuina's granddad.
Nerdy’s love of “wonderland” is like a metaphor for life
playlist caught me slacking almost forgot to comment. big hype sir!~
the finale fight is going to be so good, honestly one of the most well done episodes and i can't wait for you to see it. they really story board it like watching a performance.
12:38 Luffy: No, Usopp! This is special water, it's not yours. It's Chekov's -gun- water.
One of my favorite memes between my friends is literally any time we saw Mr 3 or similar powers in any show one of us will without a doubt say “I lied, it’s not wax”

As for filler, the g8 filler arc is fantastic, highly recommended, I'm sure chat will remind you when it's time for that one
I like it also, but it is just filler.

OMG! Transponder cell phone squirrel.😂 Imagine that.

It's the era of algorithm goddess Vivi!!!
I just leave you the challenge to watch the G-8 filler arc with one of the most iconic anime's character. It's as good as cannon. In Alabasta, filler becomes a bit lengthty.
"No. 1 feels like a villain"
You have no idea yet .. :D
Hey Nerdy are there any plans to watch Frieren? You both are fantasy fans so I think you guys will love it
G8 the only filler worth watching
Rainbow Mist also pretty good.
That punch Luffy throws on Vivi was very weak because we all know Luffy he can one shot a sea beast in one punch
Croodile always had back up plan!
i think the funimation dub did a better explaining why luffy was acting bratty and why vivi picking a fight with luffy and how luffy notice that vivi is still shouldering everything when she has his friends aka the strawhats that she can rely on....
21:20 Thanks
there are fights in this show way longer than 15 episodes lol
Loads of captains have killed their underlings so far - its been kinda an important theme...
the argument luffy was having was, vivi is trying to solve this whole problem on her own and without bloodshed. she thinks just talking to the rebel people and kohza and her father and revealing who is really behind all this will just stop any fighting from happening. but luffy understands doing that wont stop crocodile. and it wont stop alabasta from trying to stop crocodile which again would lead to bloodshed. crocodile needs to be stopped, but the citizens rebelling thats not something he as a pirate can help with. vivi doesnt want the strawhats to get hurt by getting involved but they are ready to fight to help her, but all they can do as pirates is fight baroque works. their not gonna be helpful in politics. but vivi is ready to die to save her country but shes still unwilling to let the crew risk their lives for her, thats why luffy told her to also bet their lives

I know this has nothing to do with the episode but after discovering your channel through one piece live action I went back to watch your other adaption reactions and want to know how one piece and sandman live action adoptions compare as Netflix live action adoptions.
I understand why u dont want to watch fillers anymore, but there are some really good ones as well that you really shouldnt miss
Just as a note, Bon Clay never touched Sanji or even ever met him and therefore cannot copy his face.
Crocodile is a proper James Bond villain who's even cooler and has longer-spanning plans.
Don’t hit someone if you don’t wanna get hit back
Luffy's hands rated E for Everyone, the man just doesn't care.
I just realized crocodiles is a mod boss
Hey Nerdy, the next opening is near, just remember not to watch it, you can still listen to it, it has a MAJOR SPOILER so in your face, it was actually critiqued back then, so you would want to avoid watching it until after leaving alabasta
Filler ain't worth it
What is the beverage?🤔🧐
I'm so curious lol
Some of the filler is decent but you are making the right decision to skip it, some are worth going back and watching later if you want to see the straw hats being silly together and like, what if style plots - luffy becomes a marine, fuedal japan and all the straw hats are gangsters etc...
Vivi is constantly trying to burden herself and not others, this bothers luffy, what are friends for?
Yay, no more filler! (Until g8, but that one's fine and hilarious)
I gotten to one piece from watching. The funniest moments. It has that very. Slap stick comedy.
What kinda drinks you got in canada that get you high? Asking for a friend
Just so you know, don't watch the third opening when you get to it. It has a massive spoiler. Wait till episode 131 to watch it.
It's rare that anime has some Bond Villain types in them. Crocodile is an example of one.
if you ever just get burned out by pacing, just start reading the manga. I lost interest in sky island and then again in fishmen island. So I went to reading.
There is a dead person on the pellow behind you who did you kill nerdy confess.🤨
That doesn’t work like that
20:10 for reasons I probably can’t disclose to you, I recommend you don’t ship Zoro and Kuina
And yeah. Skip filler.
I don't think any filler from here on is mixed up with canon, except for a few bits in the arc after your next big arc.
11:49 why? And why are you speaking like a gangster😂
I think its fine to skip filler but please dont skip the G8 Arc, its super funny!
I can strongly recommend watching a later major arc drunk, and belting out a certain character's theme song.
Bro skip the fillers it will ruin your experience
Skip all filler except one. Called G8 (episode 196-206)
I think they add a fair bit to those characters but not the best react content.
I utterly detest filler, so you won't get any flak from me, if you decide to skip them from now on.
Vivichan
ya no filler will be nice
I must say it again, sry xD it's your choice with the fillers, but I still would recommend to just watch it on your own then without uploading them :P . But i guess my point of view is clear anyway, so after this video, I won't talk anymore about your decision and my personal preferrences about that matter ^^
Oh... Nerdy about to find out why One Piece is so popular in the cannabis community.
oooh what is that shirt? Always love some trans merch
The only filler you should watch is g8
Don't watch the fillers
After arc filler is fine but middle Arc filler or one whole Arc non canon filler except g8 is boring
Man's gonna have a hard time watching anime if hitting and violence is something that bothers you, you mention it every time. Anime is a violence expressive medium, a lot of points will be punctuated with a punch. Not just in One Piece, in most animes.
