It was nice that you mentioned the amazing Tom Crean. When people say “Welp, they don’t make ‘em like that anymore”, they are likely referring to someone like Tom Crean or Tom Crean himself. One of the most fascinating lives ever in history. If ever you’re looking to read an exciting biography, just pick any one of the dozen books about this remarkable, unsung hero of the last century.

We think that Kerry is one of the most beautiful places in the world...(the world we know, that is...) in 2014 we missed this first part of the Dingle Way, as we came from Killarney by bus to Dingle, after having finished the Kerry Way.
Now that we know that you possibly have to interrupt your walking projekt for a certain time we want to let you know that we are wishing all the best for Ellie! Take all the rest you need...

Cool! Are you planning on camping or hostels and such?
We camped in Woodlands Campsite in Tralee (€12p/p), and then if you ask the pubs in Camp there's usually one there that will let you camp out the back of their pub (there are also quite a few B&Bs there too). In Annascaul we stayed in Paddy's Palace hostel which was only €10 each for a dorm bed.
And then finally in Dingle we camped at the Rainbow Hostel (€10p/p) (they also have dorms and private rooms) which is one of our favourite hostels in Ireland. It's about a 10 minute walk out from the town, which I liked as it meant it had space and was quite.

Tough Soles hi there Carl /Ellie. I am just back from Spain and want to do a short Irish trail before heading back next summer. This one sounds perfect. And has the Camino feel to it. I will be hostelling and hope to bring someone else along. It's best to pre-book I take it?

Hi there. I will be traveling from California and plan on backpacking the dingle trail. I am planning on tent camping the entire hike. Are there designated areas to pitch tents or are we free to pitch a tent wherever as long as it's away from establishments or homes? Thanks for any advice.

Hi there! So unfortunately in Ireland it's not really clear cut with camping. On the Dingle Way there are not designated areas for camping, and "wild camping" isn't an established right or agreement along Irish trails. There is a lot of farm land along the route, and all the land is privately owned, so it involves talking to people to ask where is okay in the different areas. It's very much a case by case basis. I know people to camp the whole trail, so it is possible. And we've always had a good experience whenever we ask locals for advice on where to camp. So as long as you're polite about it, you should be fine!

We did the Camino Del Norte in 2015! We walked from Biarritz to Fisterra over six weeks. It was a really great experience, especially because it was our first big walking project. If we hadn't done that we wouldn't have done Tough Soles!

@@ToughSoles Excellent. My wife and I done the Mainland way and heard good reports about the northern route . Such a soul filling experience for us. We then did Mont Blanc { TMB }. done this kerry route a few years back also. Stunning part of Ireland. I look forward to seeing what you guys do next if life doesn't get in the way. Enjoy life both of you x
